As a fellow Chicagoan, I agree with this. It seems like more like 90%+ though. Nothing racist here that Sandman's said, just facts. Although what grinds my gears is that people from all over the country are misinformed about our city into believing it's some shitty city. Sure our weather sucks ass in the Fall/Winter but all in all it's great. But the Chi has always been known for violence, in fact, last year was the lowest murder count in like 50 years. The recorded death toll has been as much as 1,000 per year many decades ago. These thugs (actually just kids killing kids sadly) are nothing compared to when REAL gangsters ran amok in the city. It's never been safer to be in Chicago tbh.
Folks wanting to visit, use common sense, stay away from the South Side past Chinatown and Bridgeport, and avoid the West Side all together and you'll be fine :)
P.S. Oh and for some reason, people have failed to mention that some areas of the North Side are shit now too (thanks to low income housing), but nowhere NEAR as bad as the aforementioned areas. |
