Managed to escape from the flood, but died because of custom officers:

Pensioner Mlađan Rajic (66) that on Saturday evening, fleeing the floods, try to travel with his son in Vienna, has died at the Hungarian border crossing , where Hungarian customs officers held for three hours because he did not have enough money with him.

Vladan attempts to get in touch with at least of Hungarian customs official, but he failed, since official refused to answer the phone for over an hour . Vladan was able to communicate only with his father , who is now in pain and weak and on all of his questions began to respond only with " good" and " cold " .

About half past 9 I've heard him last time . Border guards were only then beginning to answer on his phone , but the only thing they said was " very bad" . I asked them to call an ambulance because my father was sick , reminding them of the situation in our country and that is why he wants to arrive in Vienna that there is no more place to live - Vladan continues .

When it became clear that the Hungarian customs officials have no intention of saving his life , Vladan contacted Serbian embassy in Hungary, and they sent an ambulance and a translator .

Unfortunately , the only thing the doctors in 22 hours could do was to point out that the Mlađan Rajic died of a heart attack and notify his son about it. When his son arrived three hours later he says, it was a terrible sight . In a cold room with three desks , where after several hours of suffering died , his father was left completely naked , covered with a small blanket .

Listen you clearly don't understand difference between People, Country, and UNION. Our country asked everyone in same time for help on 15th.

And on 16th. Slovenia for example already sent their help. And although Slovenia is in European Union, that help was not from European Union, it was from country it self. On 18th the news told us that through people donations, Slovenia gathered 100 000 euro to donate to floods disaster. THIS also was not sent from European Union Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC).

The help that Slovenia sent us was in Rescue vehicles, and in man power. Again this was on 16th.

The article you posted is made on 17th and the same news as in your article, we received was on 18th. The truth is that European Union decided to help after their round table gathering, and after seeing how many countries helped us without even asking European Union if they should help or not.

European Union is an UNION of countries, agreement, but countries still work for them self. And that UNION have Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC), which is basically like you in your house have Piggy Bank. and saving money for emergency cases. Now this is whole different help that will be sent to us.

Damn, that's horrible - enjoyed my visit to Serbia and have some close friends in Balkan, always enjoyed the culture and people there (keeping lots of Balkan movies and music).

Wishing a lot of strength and a speedy recovery. If you know about any sensible way to help please give me a pointer, I don't want to contribute through any "government" programme since I know how the government functions here and am afraid yours is not much different.

Did this ever happen anytime recently? I don't remember major floods in Balkan, here in Czech it happened already three or four times during the past 20 years, not on this scale though.

the disaster is too wide spread and the damage too great for the politicians to be lining pockets with this money...at this moment they are pretending to be competent, and as much as I hate that this money will in one way "salvage" their incompetent assholes, I am sure a great deal of it will actually end up helping the victims because 20.000 homeless and the billions in damage is just too much to ignore for them...with most of the crops gone, and the fields too moist to work for the next 3-4 weeks, it will literally take billions of $$$ to even speak of stating crops for the next year, providing the farmers who lost everything could survive a one year financial vacuum and live off of air...

it is the paypal account of a Serbian diplomatic mission in Brussels or something similar, it was specifically set up for this, the money will be forwarded to a special account in Serbia to be used for aid. It is a completely legit account no doubt about this, was in the news and announced by government officials

You can't believe how many dipshits are out there. Some people went with boats in flooded areas just to steal things from abandoned houses, on my facebook wall it's flooded with warnings about fake organizations and paypal accounts. There are at least 40 fakes that i counted. Some idiots charged for bread 200 dinars while regular price is 40, and for water 400 dinars while water regular price is about 60-70.

But gypsies are the worst. Over 1000 reports from gypsies who doesn't live in flooded areas just came there in hotels who offered free sleepover and free meals for those who were flooded, using situation to get their sleep and food for free, and maybe to get one more house when country start building houses which are destroyed or not usable anymore.

Who knows how many dipshits are not found out yet trying to take advantage of this situation.

Damage from flooding in Serbia is at least one billion euros, but pessimistic forecasts show that can reach up to 1.5 billion, analysts estimate unofficially. :(
