thinking about it.......my grocer is not mexican, one of the dudes watching it there was black. The groups I passed watching the games in shop windows I didn't really notice, the parks quite a few mexicans. I think plenty of whities too though.

But if I asked around I don't think I'd find anyone who talks as shittily about soccer as some euros do about handegg. It seems some people just get miffed over the name- football.

It is the opposite than you thought.
"Soccer" crowd is bashing football (pussy players, fake crying, weak men as opposed to strong handeggers, no goals and so on). While "handegg crowd" mostly talks about the fact that the name "football" belongs to football and not to American rugby.

I think of the low scoring like edging.. Instead of the boring morning in-the-shower quickie It's more like getting lubed up for a no-one else at home wank session and edging for hours almost... ALMOST until the final jizz blows the ceiling off..

There is also a hell of a lot of skill on display. Most other football codes are boring as shit, eg NFL wearing shoulder pads like 80's women and stopping every ten feet and time outs etc. The only really stupid part of soccer is the diving. That shit needs to be taken out back and shot.

Also lol at horse racing being a "sport".

Axeman 06-16-2014 06:21 PM

It's alright. I do wish that once the ball hits the box, that the offsides rule would be off though. Between the boxes, I have no issue with it.

I don't get teh attraction either, however each to their own.

Cricket has similar numbers of supporters too(2-3billion) and I bet most here would rag on cricket too, yet I cannot watch enough of it during summer time :thumbsup

Uh no, you seemed to have cherry-picked my post. I never meant the game itself was boring, I said that in conjunction with all that stuff about the lame offside rule. Because there are so many instances where a great play is unfolding and a chance on goal is right there but the big bad attacker is a half step ahead (as in behind) the poor defenders and the ref blows his idiot-whistle. THAT to me is bor-ring.

And Ma Dalton, you conveniently ignore all I said about teams intentionally moving their back players forward during certain plays, to intentionally create an offside situation. I've watched it happen in several games in this WC already.

It's as pathetic an abuse as guys who fake and embellish contact and injuries, another thing I find very bothersome about the sport. Or any sport for that matter.

This. It's a game with 22 actors with no honor or sportsmanship.
It is also the sport with the most fanatic, crazy "fans".

View of an ignorant tool. Who takes few "acting" highlights and applies it to 22 people.
As if there is no acting in lets say basketball (harder to get away with due to the game type). And you know there would be acting in your precious handegg if it would be possible to get away with it. Fact. That is human nature. Not all are up standing people who are 100% honest.

So quote my post and say "this" instead if you want to look like an objective person.

Here's how I see the game: a bunch of guys in an open field kicking a ball around. Kick, kick, pass, clear, kick, pass, shuffle, deke, kick, pass, out of bounds...for 90 fucking minutes!! WTF? It's bad enough you have to do this repetitive, boring, monotonous ball-kicking for 45 minutes straight but then they come back and do it AGAIN?

Why isn't there more scoring? Why aren't they constantly attacking the net instead of endlessly passing the ball around mid-field? Why are people in the stands going APESHIT NON-STOP for 90 mins straight as if the game before them is the greatest experience they will ever have in their entire lifetimes? Can anyone explain the appeal of this sport to me please?

We won't even get into 'nil-nil'. Seriously, I am not joking here: what is the fucking appeal? WHY do so many people around the world get so batshit crazy over kicking a ball around a gigantic field with so little meaningful action, scoring or tension? I do not get it.

:helpme

Watch some Premier League games. You will get it.

_AdultDev_ 06-17-2014 03:34 AM

I think the closed minded and arrogance coming here is a bit annoying, but I'll put that aside.

I agree with Madalton, WTF are you people thinking with the no offside rule? There is offsides in Hockey, non of you complain there, why not let 3 guys sit in front of the goal and we pass the puck the length of the ice and then hockey will be 15-19 instead. Why do they have offsides and encroachment in NFL, why not let the defense just attack whenever, would make it more exciting, when I want to get the QB I just run, and then they can try to stop me. Would make that much more exciting as well.

I've been to live NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, and many other sports live around the world. I will say by far seeing soccer live is a different level. The fans almost all across the stadium appreciate everything, they cheer with passion and with their hearts. I've been to NFL games where a lot of people are sitting around and don't even care when points are scored. At a soccer game the people cheer, clap, they all sing songs with love and passion for their team. It's like one giant family.

Saying just kick the ball and score more shows how clueless you are. Why do NHL players pass, pass, pass, pass, pass around the blue line back and forth. Because they are waiting for a hole in the defense, or for someone to make a move that they can get the perfect pass in. In your way of doing things, any time I get the puck just shoot, and shoot. More goals then.

Soccer is a very tactical sport. Some teams play a more attacking style, while others sit back and play the counter attack. If you watched Real Madrid vs FC Bayern in the champions league you would have saw a perfectly planned counter attack.

You have to remember in soccer there are 11 men on the field, so just kicking the ball is hard to do, you need to get it past them, you need to plan the right move, the right pass. Soccer is a lot of anticipation, you stand and cheer, the ball moves up and it gets you on the edge of your seat just waiting and waiting.

To put it into perspective, a lot of USA sports are like quickie sex, I want to cum, and cum right now, excitement, make something happen, score a goal, hit a home run, intercept the ball and run it back for a pick 6.

With soccer, it's like long passionate sex, you don't want to pull out, you don't want to cum. You want to be on edge for that perfect moment and then squirt all over the place. That's how soccer is, the ball moves up slowly, and when the moment happens, the right cross comes in, and someone heads the ball in, you go apeshit. And the vibe in the stadium is different then anything you'd find at a NHL game, or NFL.

You may think a lot is not going on, but if you watch the fighting and wrestling for the ball, the way some people play, the moves they make. If you think they are doing nothing a lot of guys run 10 plus KM in about 90 mins time. For a bunch of guys standing around, that's sure a lot of movement.

When you watch, understand what's happening, why they are passing, who they are passing to. The Ghana USA game was a great example. Ghana was coming up the sides and crossing like crazy, they just could not punch it in. But, every shot made you go LOOOK!!!!

Then they finally scored, it was like WTF. Then a few mins later USA scored on a corner. It was crazy.

Understand the rules, understand the movements, understand why each team plays the way they do.

If you really want to understand, fly to Europe, see a game or two live, then you will understand.

Acting?

Obviously you are not familiar with Lebron James?

Why was Wade fined for flopping in the finals?

Because he wasn't hit in the face?

Lebron is 6 ' 8 and 250.

He is much larger than any soccer player. Watch the video, put your hand on his back he's laying on the ground. It's amazing how easy it is to take out a man of that size.

This.

Americans don't understand what kind of physical condition you have to be in to play the game. Average american would topple over from a heart attack within first 10 mins of entering the field.

Yeah run 10 KM "that's over 6 miles for Americans" in the brazil heat, with people grabbing you, kicking you trying to tackle you... Would never ever happen.

I love how the people who are clueless about soccer say "a bunch of guys standing around"

It's not like Hockey where you skate for 2 mins, then sit on the bench. You don't get breaks. Or like the NFL where you get a break every 1 minute for 5 mins of commercials. The whistle blows and you just fucking play.

Which also is another thing that makes soccer more exciting, once the whistle blows, you just play. You know there won't be 500 breaks for whatever. You know it's non stop.

BettingHandle 06-17-2014 04:26 AM

sorry, simply overlooked that, no intention.

it is part of the rules - and part of the tactics. if there was no offside, each team would simply park one or more players in front of the opponents goal and just try to do long shots to them. and the game would be ruined.

doesn't hockey have a similar rule? no shots across the middle line?

and the faking of injuries... as someone who played handball that bothers me too sometimes.

Ross 06-17-2014 04:54 AM

This is the kind of question I just can't answer to someone, you have to watch me, watching a football match to know what is special about it. I love the game more than any other sport, more than any other thing. Since the time I could walk, I've kicked a ball around, my cousins, uncles, my dad, they all taught me different things about the game, the offside rule, how to dribble, when to pass, when to shoot, everything to do with the game was taught to me by family and friends. It can be played anywhere, by 2 people or 50 people, when you are a kid you don't care how many is on a team, get the ball and start playing.

It's life to me, I am passionate about it, it brings back a lot of very happy childhood memories, it's the simplest thing in the world but it's more fun than anything else. If you don't get it, don't be arrogant about it, it's not your fault and you can't start to understand it if you won't open your mind and give it a chance.

I opened my mind and gave NFL, Basketball, Baseball and Hockey a chance when I moved to North America, I regularly go to all these sports games and I enjoy them, especially NFL but they will never replace Football for me.

michael.kickass 06-17-2014 05:26 AM

To truly understand it you can start by not calling it soccer but FOOTBALL. You gotta play it to understand it. The scoring is exciting 'cause it happens rarely, not every 2 fucking minutes. And it's always about tricking the opponent, you gotta make the opponent think the ball is going one place when it actually goes to the other. I don't expect you to understand it, but when 80 or 90 % of the world population love it and you don't, there are some pretty good chances you are missing something and not the other way around. :)

Scott McD 06-17-2014 05:33 AM

I've been to many Celtic games over the years. And some of these i will simply never forget as long as i live, for one reason or another.
It's things like that which keep you addicted for more.

The next game i go to could be another of 'those' games...

It's a good solid sport with lots of strategy and tactics, that's probably it. Just because it's not obvious and the score doesn't go all the way up to 90 doesn't mean it's not fun to watch.

I've been a real soccer "fan" in my late teens. Real fan - one that never misses a game, stands (no sitting) in the fan sector and will fight for the team. Great times.

More like 50%. The biggest countries in the world don't play soccer.

It's a game with a ball bouncing all over the place on a 2 mile field, with almost no control over where it goes and who gets it, has dudes running around for 3 hours with maybe the prize of a single goal into a net that you could put a battleship through. What's not to like?

Rochard 06-17-2014 06:51 AM

Soccer I get. Baseball I do not. It's mostly standing around waiting for something to happen.

Due to all the changes and new rules the NFL is now almost as boring as baseball and soccer. Go to a Lakers game at Staples center and I dare anyone to tell me basketball is boring..

basketball is boring.

there is no strategy, just get the ball to the guy with the ego/big paycheck and let him chuck it at the basket.
