It does't make any sense. Bush did this 171 times and no one said a thing. Obama did this 32 times and it's a massive legal issue.

Why didn't anyone say anything when Bush was President?

The problem here is these agencies need someone in charge to run them. It takes months to select and vet potential candidates, and then Congress dicks around and before you know it very important government agencies do not have a director for six months at a time. Congress needs to do it's job, not file lawsuits to make it look like they are doing their job.

The issue isn't how many times it was done, but in this case the circumstances surrounding it.

The republicans knew that Obama would likely do recess appointments during the holiday break so they decided to try to stop him from doing that (up until then they had carried out an historical number of filibusters against his appointees so they knew these recess appointments were coming). They carried out a procedure called a pro-forma session. This allowed for just a few Senators to show up and take roll call. They didn't do anything, but since they showed up they claimed it was a legit session and therefore there was no recess so Obama couldn't carry out his recess appointments. Obama and his legal team disagreed (there was no real legal precedence for this) and carried out three appointments. Pepsico sued Obama because they didn't like one of the people he appointed. They claimed that he illegally appointed this person using a recess appointment when their was no recess. Eventually the case made its way through the system and the Supreme Court ruled against Obama.

Democrats took away the filibuster, so the GOP took away the Recess appointments.

So now Obama is breaking the constitution, end of story

dude you know all the other presidents have done this. But what makes obama different hmmmm......... also no congress has ever tried to block as much as with obama . the reason he did the recess appointment because they held up all his appoints even non political positions. And you cant say well he should work with them. They are for something, he says great idea then they are against it. You get elected just hating on obama and saying I will do nothing that monster wants. You have painted yourself into a corner so you have to do nothing if you want to keep your job. Eric Cantor learned that the hard way.

Other presidents had the filibuster, Obama doesn't have to worry about that, don't cry to me if they just don't lie down and take the bullshit from Obama on this. Remember that those that blocked Obama are representatives of the people.

Nothing gives Obama the right to break the constitution, and don't tell me he didn't know, that's what his degree is in! Every Justice voted that he broke the constitution, EVERYONE OF THEM!

Bullshit. Congress plays games by refusing to appoint people to positions strictly for political reasons, playing games, and intentionally held things up to play political games. Obama bypassed them doing the same thing every president has done and it's illegal?

Bullshit. Congress needs to do it's job.

And this is the problem with the Republican party. All they are trying to do is make Obama look bad. Fine, great, wonderful - instead of doing their jobs we'll just remove everyone appointed, and the only people that suffer is the American people who have huge government agencies with no one at the helm. In the end, Obama will still be President. The Republicans accomplished NOTHING other than hurting the American public. Again.

Just like with Obamacare - hundreds of lawsuits, and Obamacare is still a law and Obama is still President.

What I think these last 5 1/2 years have done is create a blueprint for how to obstruct the process. The republicans tried to filibuster all of his appointments so the democrats enacted the nuclear option to get around that. This will likely come back to haunt them if they aren't in power. The republicans then took away the recess nomination. You know we will see this again.

There have been many who say that Obama needs to work with the republicans. I have said it before and believe that they have no interest in being worked with. The road map of obstruction they have laid out the the steps the democrats to have taken to overcome it will likely cause a gridlock on future congresses for the foreseeable future no matter who is in the white house.

Yeah, I agree that the knife cuts both ways, but when they are in charge, and I believe they will control at the very least Congress ( Come this November), they will not want the democrats to have filibuster power either ( Only really works for the party not in control) and they will stick with the recess restriction because since there really isn't a viable GOP front runner that can take on Hillary, we will end up with Hillary and they will want to keep her from doing anything without their approval.

Pretty much , when the democrats in the senate voted down the filibuster, they shot themselves in the foot! At least for the near by future, but things will change, they always do.

Obama is saying he's going to find a way around this, probably break constitutional law again in a different fashion to get his agenda filled....

Sen. Marco Rubio warned House Republicans that if they don't pass a bill, Obama will act on his own: "I believe that this president will be tempted, if nothing happens in Congress," Rubio said, "to issue an executive order as he did for the Dream Act kids 2 years ago, where he basically legalizes 11 million people by the sign of a pen."

And we are off! Obama pursuing executive actions on immigration

Pure politics. :(

Pres. Obama is very good at politics. And for the Republicans it's a lose/lose either way they would go on "immigration reform".

So the Pres. is trying to get them to make a move...and no matter what they do it will hurt them in Nov.

Smart move politically by Obama. Currently the Democrats are getting ready to get slaughtered in the mid term election and might even lose the Senate.

This move by Pres. Obama might be just enough politically to hurt them and allow the Dems to barely hang on. At least that's the objective.

Oh, wait a minute...did some of y'all actually think that the Republicans and Democrats gave a fuck about "immigration reform" itself? LOL

They only give a fuck about it in the sense of how it could gain or lose them votes.

It is a slick move by Obama. As you say, the republicans can't win on this topic so he is trying to push them into a fight.

I agree.

To take it further, the Republicans attacked Clinton with the Monica Lewinsky, which was nothing more than a massive miscarriage of justice. They were trolling desperately trying to implicate Clinton in the White Water and caught President Clinton in a minor lie about his infidelity, completely unrelated to their original investigation, and then tried to impeach him. This is political trolling at the highest level.

Now the Republican party fires off lawsuits at will. How many lawsuits have they filed to stop Obamacare? 100? 120? 130? And all of the have failed.

Now the Republican party's entire plan is "Instead of doing our job let's just try to make the president look bad". Obamacare? Is it really so bad that they had to file 100 lawsuits over it? Benghazi? How the White House decided to downplay a terrorist attack isn't too important. The IRS thing? That was a government agency doing it's job - looking for people trying to commit tax fraud - and it had nothing to do with the President. Now they want to file a lawsuit because Obama used executive orders one fourth as much as Bush did? Now they are complaining about appointees - The ones the Republican party is blocking? What a fucking joke already.

The Republican party needs to start doing it's job and start giving some thought to the next election - because what they are doing now is not working and will be a moot issue when Obama leaves the White House in two years.

I can't remember who it was, but I saw a republican strategist on a show once talking about how the republicans major problem is that they no longer seem to talk about what they are for, just what they are against. If they want to win the white house they are going to have to find a candidate that can embrace who they are, state their positions and inform us as to why those positions will work better as opposed to what we get now which is, "Obama bad."

Exactly. Obama bad. Great, but guess what - Obama is gone in two years no matter what. Instead on continuing this entire "Obama is bad" track they need to spend their time fixing their party and preparing for the next election.
