History so far has shown that scientists have been wrong on "climate change" over and over. :(

I'll remind everyone (for those of you too young to remember):
In 1970, Pres. Richard Nixon was told that if global warming was not addressed IMMEDIATELY that the entire east coast of the U.S. would be underwater. New York City would be gone! By the year 2000 (14 years ago).

In the late 1970's they reversed course and claimed we were going to enter a man-made "Ice Age"

Late 1990's and early 2000's they again predicted "Global Warming" was going to put the coastline cities underwater.

Now new data has made all of those predictions wrong again (the ocean is absorbing the CO2 at a much greater rate than scientists predicted...nature again proves that mankind is just a pimple on it's ass with no power).

Just saying...if you look back at how fucking WRONG all these scientists have been over and over and over...it kinda makes you a little bit cynical about their latest pronouncements and where the money comes that funds their "research".

Keep in mind that these are "Greenhouse Gas" emissions. There is no real breakdown of what these stats tell us.

And if it's mainly carbon dioxide being put out...then that is a whole other controversial debate.

I remember when I was a kid we thought of "air pollution" as being smog created by big smokestacks belching black filth into the sky.
This isn't the same thing.

I'm starting to think that some people won't be happy until we all live in caves with no electricity and no way to travel except on horses and bicycles.
I am sure America could have less polution IF they forced people to buy cars that does not drink gas and oil as it was water. Sure old cars are nice to look at but its about time to think about the world we have, insted of have it in our memory when we are unable to live on it just because some asshats want to drive old cars.

China have done a lot to go green huge companties have solar power on rooftops, among other buildings. But since coal is cheap people use that to heat their homes, and that is not good in a huge city when 1 million people use it at once.

The part you are neglecting is the pollution cost of manufacturing, which is what I was pointing out to ********** earlier. The pollution resulting from adding a new car to the environment is exponentially greater than having an old car, regardless of the mileage differences.

Want to do your part in curbing pollution? Don't buy a new fucking car, hybrid, lowbrid, any brid.

chevy does a good job of hiding the #s re: manufacturing pollution from chevy volts, but I'd guess it's 20 tons + of CO2e per each car

The carbon footprint of a new car:

17 tonnes CO2e: Ford Mondeo, medium spec
35 tonnes CO2e: Land Rover Discovery, top of the range

The carbon footprint of making a car is immensely complex. Ores have to be dug out of the ground and the metals extracted. These have to be turned into parts. Other components have to be brought together: rubber tyres, plastic dashboards, paint, and so on. All of this involves transporting things around the world. The whole lot then has to be assembled, and every stage in the process requires energy. The companies that make cars have offices and other infrastructure with their own carbon footprints, which we need to somehow allocate proportionately to the cars that are made.

I have an old diesel car with the gas prices in Norway you dont want a huge car, now pr L cost about 3 usd and diesel around 2.4 usd.
