Well, ok.. but you did say there's "Gobs and gobs" left. Maybe I mistakenly read "Don't worry! It'll be here forever" in your words.... I take it back.

Well, a little. I'm just glad not to be putting any more money into big oil. Oil causes wars, Oil pollutes more and kills more people than any other source of energy, etc. I'm just glad that we finally have a choice when it comes to the source of energy, and I'm glad I made a new choice. That's it...

Not to mention you're the one that bought the $40k electric car, not me.

that car will be paying for its own carbon footprint for the next ~30 years. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh[/QUOTE]

What do you drive again?

There is more oil left than we've consumed thus far. A lot more is the point and while predicting is crucial, it's not a true measure of reality for many reasons.

Be proud in your choice, that's good, you do your fair share of trolling here and I like to troll ya back, electric cars is a fun place to do that.

what I drive-

I've sold all my cars and motorcycles except for the motorcoach, which does get shitty mileage, but it is a 1994 and already paid for its carbon footprint and we don't drive it long distances and I am also finishing up converting the electrical system to pure battery recharged with solar panels, completely unplugged from the grid.

Hopefully we'll have moved on from fossil fuels way before 53 years.

Not until the U.S. federal govt. figures out a way to make solar tanks, missiles, bomber jets, and drones. :(

Controlling the world with our giant overbloated military that has huge bases worldwide requires fossil fuels. And if there is one thing our govt. is intent on doing the last 70 years...it's controlling the world. (and failing miserably at it while spending trillions and burning more fossil fuel in a day than we can even imagine)

That is GREAT news maybe America should go green energy, oil only pollute the enviroment. If people got that thru their tick skulls maybe there would be a ban on gas hungry cars, USA produce a shitload of pollution every day due to all the cars. :2 cents:

Why do you only mention the USA?

China is NUMBER ONE in polluting. The U.S. is number 2.

Here is the breakdown of the top 10 in "greenhouse gas" emissions:

1. China 6,018 million metric tonnes per year
2. USA 5,833 million metric tonnes per year
3. Russia 1,704 million metric tonnes per year
4. India 1,293 million metric tonnes per year
5.Japan 1,247 million metric tonnes per year
6.Germany 858 million metric tonnes per year
7. Canada (SURPRISE lol) 614 million metric tonnes per year
8. United Kingdom 586 million metric tonnes per year
9. South Korea 514 million metric tonnes per year
10. Iran 471 million metric tonnes per year

Source: http://www.actionforourplanet.com/#/...ies/4541684868

Keep in mind that these are "Greenhouse Gas" emissions. There is no real breakdown of what these stats tell us.

And if it's mainly carbon dioxide being put out...then that is a whole other controversial debate.

I remember when I was a kid we thought of "air pollution" as being smog created by big smokestacks belching black filth into the sky.
This isn't the same thing.

I'm starting to think that some people won't be happy until we all live in caves with no electricity and no way to travel except on horses and bicycles.

we won't make it another 50 years burning oil, global climate change will be in full affect in 20 years. We better hope something better comes around before then.

Why would that be a surprise? We're a very industrious nation.

Of course, 614 million is but a speck compared to the 6+ BILLION tonnes from China or the 5+ billion from USA.

But we're trying!

I guess we'll see.

History so far has shown that scientists have been wrong on "climate change" over and over. :(

I'll remind everyone (for those of you too young to remember):
In 1970, Pres. Richard Nixon was told that if global warming was not addressed IMMEDIATELY that the entire east coast of the U.S. would be underwater. New York City would be gone! By the year 2000 (14 years ago).

In the late 1970's they reversed course and claimed we were going to enter a man-made "Ice Age"

Late 1990's and early 2000's they again predicted "Global Warming" was going to put the coastline cities underwater.

Now new data has made all of those predictions wrong again (the ocean is absorbing the CO2 at a much greater rate than scientists predicted...nature again proves that mankind is just a pimple on it's ass with no power).

Just saying...if you look back at how fucking WRONG all these scientists have been over and over and over...it kinda makes you a little bit cynical about their latest pronouncements and where the money comes that funds their "research".

I am sure America could have less polution IF they forced people to buy cars that does not drink gas and oil as it was water. Sure old cars are nice to look at but its about time to think about the world we have, insted of have it in our memory when we are unable to live on it just because some asshats want to drive old cars.

China have done a lot to go green huge companties have solar power on rooftops, among other buildings. But since coal is cheap people use that to heat their homes, and that is not good in a huge city when 1 million people use it at once.

The part you are neglecting is the pollution cost of manufacturing, which is what I was pointing out to ********** earlier. The pollution resulting from adding a new car to the environment is exponentially greater than having an old car, regardless of the mileage differences.

Want to do your part in curbing pollution? Don't buy a new fucking car, hybrid, lowbrid, any brid.

dyna mo 07-03-2014 11:17 AM

chevy does a good job of hiding the #s re: manufacturing pollution from chevy volts, but I'd guess it's 20 tons + of CO2e per each car

The carbon footprint of a new car:

17 tonnes CO2e: Ford Mondeo, medium spec
35 tonnes CO2e: Land Rover Discovery, top of the range

The carbon footprint of making a car is immensely complex. Ores have to be dug out of the ground and the metals extracted. These have to be turned into parts. Other components have to be brought together: rubber tyres, plastic dashboards, paint, and so on. All of this involves transporting things around the world. The whole lot then has to be assembled, and every stage in the process requires energy. The companies that make cars have offices and other infrastructure with their own carbon footprints, which we need to somehow allocate proportionately to the cars that are made.

I have an old diesel car with the gas prices in Norway you dont want a huge car, now pr L cost about 3 usd and diesel around 2.4 usd.
