That was a horrible movie, i'd rather watch transcendence 1000 times than have to sit through Swordfish ever again.

I haven't wasted a single second on the transendencd flick so i have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Rob 07-26-2014 08:12 PM

I have a feeling they're going to have Transcendence on loop at Gitmo for a long time. Hell, I'm sure some prisoners will request water boarding instead.

L-Pink 07-26-2014 08:36 PM

Transcendence started off ok then quickly deteriorated.

And I really got fucked. Watched it in one of the theaters where waiters bring food and drinks so it cost around $100.

And yes, it was the same theatre complex where the guy texting got shot dead. (made my g/f keep her phone in the car, lol)

Sneakers and Hackers were good computer movies. For it's day War Games was a technology nerd's dream.

While not totally about computers it did have some computer scenes in it, Real Genius, caught my attention when it was released.

Loving that show.

I just started watching this UK series called Black Mirror, which is awesome sci-fi that's like a Twilight Zone about modern technology like computers, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

bronco67 07-26-2014 09:33 PM

How about The Matrix?

bronco67 07-26-2014 09:38 PM

If they ever make the book The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect into a movie it will be great if done right...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Met...rime_Intellect

The book is fantastic. It's about a computer that becomes so smart it begins to bend the laws of physics, and a few minutes after that its able to make every human immortal and give them every desire they could ever want. Basically the computer becomes god and hundreds of years later some people are so bored they start having games to experience being killed in gruesome ways. It gets even weirder from there.

We Are Legion

Aired on 24 July 2014 on SBS TWO Expires on 7 August 2014, 11:20pm.

http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video.../We-Are-Legion

We Are Legion takes us inside the world of Anonymous, the radical “hacktivist” collective that has redefined civil disobedience for the digital age. The documentary explores the historical roots of early hacktivist groups like Cult of the Dead Cow and Electronic Disturbance Theater and traces how they evolved and coalesced into Anonymous, a full-blown movement with global reach and extraordinary power. Around the world, governments and corporations are taking notice as this loosely organised underground group brings down websites and interrupts commerce. The documentary explores whether this could be the beginning of a new and powerful voice for democratic ideals or just another rogue player craving attention and causing reckless havoc. (From the US) (Documentary) M(S,N,A,L)

Matrix is primarily science fiction movie, tho unlike many other movies it showed running of real computer program, nmap. There is a story how nmap author fell off the chair in cinema when he saw how they run his program in second movie.

Wrong. He clearly understood and stated that he does not know any movies, BUT IF you like TV shows... So perfectly fine answer.

While you just answered the question of "what is a good movie" by giving the name of TV series.

Just busting balls :1orglaugh

carpocratian 07-27-2014 03:30 PM

Wargames and Sneakers are the only two I think of as halfway decent computer movies.

Magnetron 07-27-2014 04:07 PM

The Net with Sandra Bullock.

DumpManager 07-27-2014 07:01 PM

I don't know if this counts because it's not a "movie", but an anime series (Longer than movie.. does that count?)

It's Sword Art Online. It is about a computer game. In the future I think, VR is the hottest thing in gaming. A new game has just released and the hype is crazy. People get into the game and start playing around for a bit and checking stuff out, when suddenly a message from the admin comes on. The admin removes the players option to quit out of the game, meaning they are stuck in the game, until they beat it. Also though, if they die in the game, they die in real life, or if someone takes them out of the VR system in real life, they die..

Crazy awesome anime, check it out if you like anime and haven't seen it.

Watched Sneakers for the 3rd or 4th time a month ago.

Redford: "The NSA was going to hire me. But then they found out my parents were married."

(loved that line)

I recently read a big article in Rolling Stone about how hackers are now being paid big money to come to work for private security firms and how the government is also trying to recruit them to work for the NSA. The problem the government is having (in addition to paying much less than the private companies) is that if you have smoked pot more than 6 times in your life they won't hire you.

2MuchMark 07-27-2014 08:02 PM

Weird... did not think of it now, but THE MATRIX...

..but for some reason I don't think of this at all when I think "computer movies".

2MuchMark 07-27-2014 08:03 PM

Ugh... and now I just remembered this one:

the government can shoot hellfire missiles into foreign countries from unmanned drone aircraft -- but you're a bad guy if you smoked a weed that came from the earth. It's really twisted.

When I joined the Navy, my chosen direction was going to be a nuclear submarine. I had this crazy background check and failed because they found out I had lied about doing lsd.

Yeah, great movie although apparently there weren't enough explosions or one liners in it for a lot of people.

I can't really think of a good "computer" movie that isn't obvious like the Matrix. Hackers and The Net were steaming piles of shit. I haven't seen Transcendence although it kind of looks like the Lawnmower Man, which I can't really comment on cause I haven't seen it for 20 years and is probably worse than I remember. Swordfish? I don't even remember anything that happens in that movie except tits and Travolta is in it. Forgettable. Can't remember it being more computery than any other kinda heist movie that has computers in it.. like.. say the second last Die Hard.

As a sort-of computer movie, maybe try "Pi" it opens turds like Hackers' mouths open and shits down their throats, but it's not really Hollywood so some people might not like the "artiness" of it. For a computer game doco try the "King of Kong" very worthwhile for those of us old enough to remember something of that time.

I think we can all agree Sneakers was good.

:1orglaugh

The obvious questions of course...

1. How did they arrive at some ridiculously random number like 6?

2. How do they determine you've smoked pot more than/less than 6x?

Heard of this! Does this actually qualify as a "computer" genre? It's pretty much a more epic/fantasy style Tron isn't it?
