side question - I dropped siggy this week but saw as Dier didn't play he seemed to have been automatically included in Diers place. Am I right in thinking that a player who doesn't start gets replaced by the highest scoring sub? Assuming the formation is within the rules of course? And would this be just a single instance, or would that go for multiple non-starters/subs, again if applicable in the formation?

Jel, Yes you have it right if a player in your first 11 does not play a single minute in a game week the first player on your bench is automatically substituted in. As you said this must conform with the formation being within the rules.

Poppy 11-10-2014 11:23 AM

Well done Shap! Our league crushed it with solid pts this week!

gotcha, thanks mate :) Makes no real difference of course to selections etc, but good to know for inquisitive minds :thumbsup

Not to over confuse things for you :upsidedow but its pretty important how you line up your bench each week. You need the best backup in place just incase one of your players doesn's play.

Like this week in my team arrons of newcastle was a 50/50 so i played him and benched wanyama. i did it this way as if arrons plays he is an attacking mid so more points up for grabs. wanyama is a def mid but knowing arrons is 50/50 to play i can cover myself as if i had a def in first place on my bench i would be risking a clean sheet attempt vs an attacking option. most weeks your bench should be best attacking option 1st spot best def 2nd spot. if you run a 3 at the back setup the best attacking option cant get used in he legal lineups so 2nd on the bench is used so it kind of covers two bases. need me to explain more let me know not sure how much of that made sense :1orglaugh

No sarcasm buddy

It's a great midfield, the only misfortune was Chadli being injured this week

Eriksen is a great pick, only 7.9% of users have him in their team
Chadli is a bargain at £6.7 and averages 6.4 points per game

Plus Spurs have a nice run of winnable fixtures after the Everton & Chelsea games

Hazard is another great pick because most players have Fabregas in their teams

Sticking with Sigurdsson was a good call in as Swansea now have a run of winnable fixtures plus he's £1.7 cheaper than Oscar but earns 0.1 point per game more.

The only player in Poppy's midfield I personally wouldn't pick is Tadic due to the difficult run Southampton have over the next 10 games.

He has the flexibility of playing a 5 man midfield with all his players scoring 5+ points per week or a 4 man midfield with 3 strikers who score 6+ points per week.

Yes, use it. You get another in the 2nd half of the season. For you newer players who haven't used your wildcard, you have this to use anytime during the season and can make as many changes to your team. You do have to remain w/in your budget.

There is a 2nd January wildcard. The January Wildcard can only be used after Gameweek 20 starts (1 Jan 11:30) until Gameweek 23 ends (7 Feb 11:30).

ok so by your logic erikson having 1 good week in x GWs and having everton and chelsea next makes up for that so 1 good return in 6 games. chadli yes bargin basement cant argue on that one.

hazard is great and a good diff on fab for sure so thats 1 out of the 5 he has i agree on. tadic was a one week wonder very creative but southampon creating jack all these last weeks. siggy is a long term pick depending only when he was bought selling him or keeping him was never going to be harmful so out of the 5 he has 2 IMO.

No my thinking is more to do with the limited number of players that have the potential to pick up double figures in a Gameweek. Erikson has scored double figures in 3 gameweeks so far and in each occasion he has picked up the 3 bonus points.

Sánchez is the only midfield player who has scored more double figures in a gameweek (4) in total.

Plus he's one of the few players who has the potential to go on an excellent run (as you found to your benefit last season when you selected him before anyone else)

Also because only 7.9% of users have him in their team it means that if he does well then you gain extra points over your rivals IF your players (aka Sanchez, Fábregas & Di María) don't perform as well in any given gameweek. This Gameweek Hazard & Erikson where the difference for Poppy and why he got 20+ points more than nearly everyone else.

I agree that Tadic was a one week wonder, but considering Southampton's fixture list after the Sunderland game. Stoke, Hull, Leicester & Aston Villa it was a good punt at the time IMO.

We both took a punt on Welbeck which hasn't really paid off and I'd wager the reason why you've replaced Welbeck with Austin is because he averages more points per game, has already scored 6 goals and you can see he has the potential to continue that goal scoring run due to QPR's favourable fixture list, I see 4 very winnable games from their next 7 fixtures.

Well it's really 3/5 because you've said above that Chadli was a good call

I maintain it's 4/5 because Di Maria & Sanchez to a lesser extent have gone off the boil. Di Maria's current form is 4.3 Vs Erikson 4.7, Di Maria hasn't scored decent points for 5 Gameweek's now and lets be honest with Manchester United who knows if they'll go on a run or get beaten by Hull & Stoke in their next 2 fixtures and Arsenals form/consistency hasn't been much better this season in the premier league.

Plus in the case of Spurs, they've not played well this season but they are still 10th on 17 points and 2 points away from 4th position. They have a new manager so they're in transition atm, I expect them to improve as the season progresses

Anyway that's my :2 cents:

Hard game week, like you say Ash, Liverpool clean sheet and Chelsea not scoring is huge. Costa is suspended now as well for Wednesday and there is a few big time players injured, could see quite a few transfers in our league this week :thumbsup

Nah dude I had a lot of luck in January last year, I selected 2 West Ham defenders & 1 Chelsea defender who consistently kept clean sheets throughout January and that's what allowed me to pull back the 100+ point lead you had.

I'm confident we both have a strategy that will keep us near the top of the league but luck definitely plays it's part, even last year in the last couple of games it could have gone either way in the end. It was a good battle and very enjoyable :pimp

I think anyone within 100 points can win it, so that's the top 11 players atm

I know this is no use now but I wouldn't have used your wildcard earlier in the season, it's more useful to keep it for the last third of the season when your team has gone up in value and you can really get the full benefit from it.

Yeah Di Maria getting injured was a blow, you have to wonder how many points he would have scored if he had of played the 90 minutes. He's dropped £0.3 in value in the past 2 days :Oh crap

Costa was lucky he didn't get sent off on Saturday!

Charlie Austin was a good punt, I always had the intention of putting him in my team due to QPR's favourable fixture list coming up

Welbeck was always going to do something in the odd game weeks. The Arsenal front 3 were interchanging like crazy against WestBrom. With Giroud back now Welbeck might start getting more a more chances but Austin was too good to turn down at his price.

Yeah i should have kept the wild card for sure and its something Im pretty sure will come back to haunt me :Oh crap i hit the panic button while drunk at the keyboard and it didnt help me at all at the time of doing it :1orglaugh

The biggest test we will all face is the rotation of the managers and getting a full team out each week is going to be an uphill battle. Then to top it off we could see some matches postponed making for some fun double game weeks for certain players.

Ross 12-02-2014 06:46 AM

This season is shaping up well, with each passing year the "managers" get more into it, can see us getting 75+ players next year. For now, all eyes on this season, still so much to play for. We're entering my fav time of the year, nothing better than sitting on the couch all day boxing day, few beers and a bunch of football games on the tv to pick between. Living in Canada, we get 5-6 games played at the same time, I just channel surf my way thru the 90 mins. Might set up a second TV this year to maximize my viewing time.

I thought Welbeck might score against Man United, he has been a disappointment and as a Man United fan I'm quite pleased now that we got £16 - £18 million for him.

Also in regards to Austin, he's scored against Man City & Chelsea so even if QPR lose against the big teams he always has the potential to pick up points

Yes I agree, it's always frustrating when key players are rested but it will happen in December for sure. Again that's pot luck those decisions, I have a feeling we're going to have a bad winter in the UK. We're due a bad one and if we end up with snow in January/February quite a few games could get postponed/rescheduled.

I'm going to have to get over to Scotland at some point to experience an old firm game.

Good to see Rangers get beat by Alloa last night! ROFL! Winning 2 - 0 and Alloa came back to win 2 - 3 :1orglaugh

Shouldn't be too long before Rangers are back in the SPL, unless they end up in administration again which is a possibility

They are 9 points behind first place already and not playing well, I don't think they will come up this year. Celtic play them in February in a cup match, I can't wait. Hoping for the Bhoys to hammer them.

The quality of Scottish football is finished tho, the best time to catch Old Firm games was from 1997-2010. Some epic games in that time, players like Larsson, Sutton, Hartson in the Celtic team and guys like Negri, Gazza, Albertz, in the Ranges team. Loved those days.

Ross 12-09-2014 05:54 AM

Well the past gameweek was pretty low scoring, with me doing really bad haha! Pretty odd results, some red cards and bad performances meant that no big scoring teams compared to usual. Still all to play for tho and especially with the crazy xmas period coming up.

My team has 4 injuries and 2 suspensions this week, I have 1 free transfer, looks like I'll be taking a hit on some points :(

Would you want to see Celtic in the English Premire League?
A lot more money, some great matches, but maybe a few years with no CL football.

What a shocking week for low scores, 5th yellow cards and injuries :Oh crap Going to be some interesting teams at the weekend with so many needing emergency transfers to get 11 players out.

Good luck to all for next week :thumbsup

The quality of Scottish football is finished tho, the best time to catch Old Firm games was from 1997-2010. Some epic games in that time, players like Larsson, Sutton, Hartson in the Celtic team and guys like Negri, Gazza, Albertz, in the Ranges team. Loved those days.

Those where the days!

I think Rangers & Celtic need to find their way into the english league somehow, they have the fan base to be top 6 clubs every season and that's the only way I see both clubs having that calibre of player being signed again sadly :disgust

When Rangers was reformed I think they should have tried to find a League 1, 2 or Conference team that was about to go bust and take over their registration like MK Dons did with Wimbledon, would have been a cheap entry into the english league.

If Rangers can't beat Alloa I don't fancy their chances against Celtic :pimp

Well the past gameweek was pretty low scoring, with me doing really bad haha! Pretty odd results, some red cards and bad performances meant that no big scoring teams compared to usual. Still all to play for tho and especially with the crazy xmas period coming up.

My team has 4 injuries and 2 suspensions this week, I have 1 free transfer, looks like I'll be taking a hit on some points :(

Same here :(

Aguero was always going to get injured, now who to replace him with... hmmm...

As I always ask myself "What would Ashley do" :winkwink:

Only 10 points separating the top 6 now, it's getting very close at the top of the league!

WTF w/ Man City! Aguero gets hurt and I replace him w/ Dzeko, who then gets hurt in warm ups...unreal.

Definitely enjoying the Mirallas points! Didn't see the ankle injury, but I will watch the recording tonight. Yeah, I saw your -12. That was quite the gamble.
