Well, according to some Russia's leaders, this is Russia's fault, because it let Finland, etc. get independent. There have been some talking about correcting this mistake.

Of course Russia didn't actually let anyone get independent, as countries declared to be independent. So Russia's mistake was not to oppose this with military means (like in "satellite" Hungary and Czechoslovakia), instead of saying "OK".

So, they want to vote thiefs. So, that's their interest. So Putin's actions are against their interests, as they didn't vote him.

Noone cares what they (or anyone else) want unless they have enough power to defend things they want. Putin doesn't like what they want and he has enough will and resources to impose his will on them. If they don't like it they can wage war alone or with help from someone, if they dare.
Russia is not a charity, far from it. We spend large chunk of our budget on the army. Don't like what Russia doing? Spend on your army as well. Just don't expect another country to care about what you want.

You don't really get the concept of being asshole. It is not synonym for being strong.

Sure. And currently this is the case when Ru is being an asshole and is quite strong. At least stronger than Ua.
