I'm going to release this exclusive to GFY. You won't read it anywhere else: The cause of this drought is radioactive ocean water from Japan. Nature has activated mechanisms that prevent the water from flowing inland and contaminating land deep into the state.

The unfortunate reality is that these drought conditions are the new normal.

I never said there were only 2 options but if you can't find a solution to stay there what other choice is there?

I am certain you know there is no magic fix that will allow things to continue as they were.

You are going to have to find a way around the drought. If you can not what are your options?

at least we have some sort of justification- beaches, mountains, etc.- not like a phoenix, az or LV. why the fuck is there a phoenix for instance? There is absolutely nothing about phoenix that justifies the resource drain it demands.

There should be a solution in order to slow down Phoenix and similar cities population. Like some federal "natural resource" tax for newcomers or something. So that people would think before moving there (as those places are overpopulated).

I guess none of you idiots understand that California's San Joaquin Valley ALONE provides around 13% of America's food.

Have any of you ever thought about what will happen when 13% of the nation's food production suddenly disappears?

This isn't about Los Angeles drinking water, that comes mostly from Northern California.
This is about losing a huge amount of America's food supply.

Do any of you know why farmers are draining the aquifer at such a rate?

Because of a fish.

That's right kiddies, a fish is more important than the nation's food supply :1orglaugh

The state government has been denying farmers the water from Northern California at an ever increasing rate over the last few years in order to save an evolutionary dead-end. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

So... in order to not lose everything they worked for the farmers pump more and more well water, draining the aquifer at an ever-increasing rate.

Rich People Trucking Their Own Water Into Drought-Ridden California

http://commoditiefutures.com/rich-pe...en-california/

"Although 81 percent of the state is experiencing an ?extreme drought,? for many parts of California there is no apparent water shortage. Visit the highest-income neighborhoods and you?ll see lush lawns and sparkling fountains defiantly sucking our lifeblood from the Earth. Apparently, the rich will do whatever it takes to keep themselves moist.

To find out how celebs manage to remain so hydrated, Politico visits Montecito, a tiny, tony city just southeast of Santa Barbara. Montecito is famous for many reasons, including having some of the highest real estate values in the country. That, paired with its proximity to L.A., makes it a haven for celebrities, who have clustered their estates along the idyllic coast."

Just to let you know, turning ocean water into clean water (desalination) actually leaves behind a waste product that is highly toxic which will ruin the land they store it on.

A much better alternative is recycling sewage water into clean water, which is actually much cheaper and the product produced is cleaner than tap water due to the stringent nature of processing. This movement just needs support as most people are against the thought of drinking what was once in your toilet.

NewOldPlayer 09-05-2014 06:43 PM

Every 4 or 5 years there's a severe drought in Cali. Yawn.

When the State shuts down car washing outlets in Los Angeles, THEN we'll have to start worrying.

Until then, it's all hype. Big Brother is just slowly getting us all used to the idea that water is scarce so bottling companies can start jacking up the price of water.

In 100 years from now we will all be paying $ 10 for a bottle of water.

The Planet has enough water for all of us, but when we move away from oil, and all of us are driving electric cars in about 100 years, WATER will be the new oil.

To keep people in line and working, the government always must control the one item that is needed to function. It's oil now, tomorrow it will be water.

Isn't this the fish that is causing massive amounts of water to be wastefully diverted to the ocean rather than the LA area?

I'm shocked for 2 reasons - one, wehateporn posted a legitimate news story and two, how can this not have been foreseen and action taken long ago?

We have oil pipelines - why couldn't there be water pipelines from say the Great Lakes? Ever seen the incredible aqueduct system the Romans built 2,000 years ago?

Israel desalinates sea water - the US can too. Expensive or not, humans need water.

It's not that cheap, but for regular use numbers can work out. Right now about 40-50% of the water used in Israel for example is result of desalination process.

I saw the same stupid shit all over Texas as well. Dumb ass people own a bunch of land and think it's their god given right to grow shit on it and the law gives them access to irrigated water.

We shouldn't be farming in places that can't sustain the crops from mostly natural rainfall. It's not even just crops, in the middle of West Texas I saw miles and miles of shrimp and crawdad farms where they build up berms and flood the area with water to farm them.

I also saw miles and miles of dried up farm land with no water to irrigate it, because all the local water sources were dried up and I'm sure there is a lot more to come of that.. (saw countless rivers and lakes that show on Google maps that were bones dry)

Granted we have to farm but we should be doing it where there isn't a need to irrigate constantly due to the area not being fit to grow crops.

Not many places can one grow crops without irrigation...I think. Dry land farming is very unpredictable at best and is definitely not as productive as irrigated crops. At worst it is a money losing proposition.

Quote:

A team of scientists from the USDA Forest Service and the University of California, Davis, assessed the size, severity and frequency of wildfires on four national forests?Klamath, Mendocino, Shasta-Trinity and Six Rivers?of northwestern California from 1910 to 2008 and their effects on the ecosystem. Fire severity is measured by its impact on resources such as watersheds, wildlife habitat, soils, vegetation and forest products. ?High? severity patches within fires are areas where greater than 95 percent of the forest canopy was killed.

The study?s key findings include:

- Despite an increase in total acres burned, there was no trend in the proportion of fires burning at high severity, which indicates that fires have not been getting worse.

- Most areas burned since 1987 have been at low to moderate severity.

The fact is that there is no proof that anything is getting worse because of global warming. In fact most real world data shows the opposite.

And for things that do appear to be worse at this present time there are a lot of other factors to consider other than global warming. Besides appearances can be deceiving because most people tend to think anecdotally and in short time frames.

If your idea of science is blaming everything on global warming then you fail at science.

Stop the bullshit. You know, because: Truth.

Supplementing natural rainfall with irrigation is one thing, but depending on it entirely as they do in West Texas for example is insane and it shouldn't be permitted.

Here is how you can produce the distillated water from the ocean using the sun heat only (no chemicals and electricity required):

As larger the construction as more water it will produce.
