I was good at it but so were a lot of others and not having a silver spoon in my mouth I had to pay for it myself. The problem was I worked too much and didn't get to race like I wanted because if I wanted to make more money to afford the racing I had to work more and working more meant no racing. Eventually the ends didn't justify the means and I grew out of wanting to race so I just did business. However after that there really wasn't a reason for me to work as I did so I slowed down and eventually realized I wanted to travel. So I figured out a way to travel where I could still be self sufficient and not have to work like I did. Now instead of trying to race or make more money, I see what I'm capable of. Hiking the AT for example is a challenge to me just like working hard to make a lot of money or buy a fancy car. It's just a different way to challenge yourself. Don't get me wrong I still have constant thoughts an idea of ways to make money, I just don't chase it like I used to. |
Getting married and having kids will change that for you Crockett. :)
All I can think about is trying to create a life where my family can thrive. That is probably the same thing that drove this lady in the story. And that's why I respect what she did. She could have done it the easy way and got handouts. But she was too proud for that. That's an admirable thing in my estimation. |
You're not supposed to bust your ass to death just to live, that's NOT the goal. You're supposed to be able to work 40hours a week and make a living wage without "busting your ass" to death. Sleeping in your car and dying = busting your ass to death.
Busting your ass brings EXTRA, not just basics. If you can't afford to pay your employees a living wage, you can't afford your business. |

I know I busted my ass in college like a motherfucker. And just because you think you are supposed to only work 40 hours a week doesn't make it so. If I only worked 40 hours a week I would have never made the kind of money I have made. And yeah...when I was in college I was on the East Coast of Florida and played a gig with my band at nights on the west coast. Slept in the car many times when I would pull off the side of the road at 4 in the morning to keep from passing out. This woman, in my opinion, was an example of a good person with pride and dignity. And it's not my job in this world to pay other people a "living wage". Nor is it the job of fast food restaurants. It's the job of individuals to do what is necessary to make a living for themselves. The world doesn't owe anybody anything. Once you figure that out...you are on your way to being a success in life. Some of the attitude I see (like yours) disgusts me. Not saying that you as a person disgust me...just the attitude that our society has formed and you have adopted. This lady was trying her level best to work her way up and out. Meanwhile, millions in this country don't even try. They have that attitude that you are espousing...their employer OWES them a living. Nope. And nobody forces anyone to work any job. This woman CHOSE to work hard and try to make it. She obviously had no skill sets or education or above-average intelligence. But I'd take a woman like her over 10 guys with your attitude any day of the week. |

You know what I also do? I pay my employees enough so that they're comfortable and can live a nice life and enjoy their work, not work themselves to death. Not a single employee of mine (11 total) has to work another job to pay their bills. Edit, also I'm under 30 years old. |

Thanks for posting - regardless of one's opinion on work or wages or where you should store gas, a hard working person who felt it was better to work than to steal died a lonely death.
Shit likes this helps me stop bitching, work harder, and count my blessings. |

Back when I was a child I use to work 5 jobs, walking to them in 6 feet of snow uphill both ways with only a baked potato for warmth and food. People these days are pussys
Also you kids get off my lawn and then turn down that hippity hoppity music! But yea times have changed and the vast majority of people can bust their ass for $7 an hour but unlike 30 years ago there isn't much opportunity for advancement Also a lot of people working these minimum wages work a lot harder then the people on gfy. |

Not thinking!!! :error |
$15 an hour is not alot of money. I made $11 an hour in 1984. You are for socializing business expenses. You are a socialist. lol Privatized profits and socialize expenses they got you played. lol
These are the people who would of worked in factories, everyone cant be a chief of industry. Someone has to make the burgers, sweep the floors. Its like these people that work harder than 90 percent here all of a sudden became lazy, that used to be saved for the people on welfare. In Australia Mcdonalds pays $16 an hr but the big mac here is 2 cents more. |

I was in the exact same position as this woman just a few years before I started making money online. I worked for some big companies that paid employees low wages with zero benefits and the mid to upper management would not even look us in the eyes let a long acknowledge us. Fuck them. I have employees now for my offline business and they make about $20 an hour. Even though I am a business owner feel I have more in common with people like the women who died than the fucking shitbag employers who bitch and moan about the possibility of having to pay their employees a wage that is enough to live on.
These shitbag employers pay their employees $10 an hour and then have the audacity to complain about people being on food stamps. FUCK YOU!!!! |

I believe in paying for what I get. I'm sure you do too. |
I'd also like to point out that if you have full time employees and you're paying them $20 an hour...you are really paying them a LOT more.
First off you have to match their social security tax to the govt. (classic case of the govt. double dipping in my opinion). Then if you are doing health benefits...tack that on it too. And if you're paying ALL the bells and whistles...then you are talking retirement benefits, unemployment, etc., etc., fucking etc. |
