For example, one of my friends has a big house in Burgas only because he can't afford it on Russian sea resorts (places like Sochi are too expensive for his pocket) or even in Spain which is also cheaper.

Unfortunately, wishing doesn't change the reality. I wish we were the richest in the EU, but we are the poorest. You wish Russia was super developed, it is one of the least developed in Europe.

Also, you need to learn at least some basics such as why gross domestic product at
purchasing power parity per capita is used when comparing living standards rather than the nominal GDP per capita. It is really basic, take the time to understand it. Here is a good start:

And yes, Northern Caucasus region is a part of Russia too and it makes a very serious contribution into the overage murder rate (it's like a Mexico). However the absolute number murders in Moscow for 2013 is lower than in NYC (are the States developed enough for you?), for example. Even despite the fact that Moscow is a much bigger than NYC.

Yes, Russia has higher GDP per capita PPP than Romania and Bulgaria and lower than anybody else in the EU from what I remember; also Russia is failing in all other indices like health, education, etc. which is why the HDI (adjusted for inequality) is the index that has been used for the past few years, it gives you the entire picture.

Also - human development is used to measure quality of life and has nothing to do with technological development, achievements, breakthroughs, etc. For instance, India has some sort of space program and a massive biotechnology sector, but low HDI.

As about the education. You know how many high-tech products are being developed/produced in Russia, right? I mean unique space technologies, high-tech weapons, nuclear technologies etc. Millions of people are involved into high-tech development and production here. Do you think it's possible in a country with a low education level?
