It's easiy to gin up the base when you give them something to fight against. The GOP can't actually pass anything, but they sure can vote. The "ryan budget" will be picked apart for every penny taken away from.. women, minorities, seniors.. its much easier to be the opposition than the party in power. The GOP winning yesterday has no impact on the next two years, but using the GOP's positions and votes over these next two years will be a central campaign strategy for Democats for 2016

The media tried to paint a picture of Republicans obstructing everything.
That's been the talking point.

What they didn't tell people was that Sen. Reid was the leader of the "Do Nothing" Senate.
The House has passed plenty of bills.

But Sen. Reid (as majority leader of the Senate) refused to let them go to a vote on the Senate floor.

Basically ANYTHING that he didn't agree with in any way...he shelved.

People saw through that shit after a while.

Perhaps now some things will FINALLY make it past the Senate and to the President's desk for him to either sign or veto.

Anything is better than what Reid did as majority leader. :(

I doubt anything will get done. I suppose a miracle could happen, but this shit is a two way street. There were plenty of things that the democrats passed in the senate that the house refused to vote on. Back in June Boehner even went so far as to tell the president that the house would not be voting on any kind of immigration reform bill that ended up in the house before the end of the year.

The republicans spent 6 years doing everything they could to obstruct Obama. The democrats responded by not working with the republicans. I think since the tide has turned the democrats are going do what they can to stall anything the republicans may want to do.

I don't see this election as a referendum on the democrats or the republicans. Two term presidents almost always loses seats in the second mid term. Those who hate Obama and the democrats came out in force and voted while those who feel more moderately towards the democrats didn't turn out to support him.

Congress has a roughly 17% approval rating yet 97% of them were reelected. I don't expect the same group of people to suddenly start acting differently.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid are problems #1 & 2. How does a woman who was speaker of the house keep getting elected leader of the house dems, loss after loss?

I think most people don't give two shits about Nacy Pelosi or Harry Reid and couldn't pick either of them out of a line up.

To me here is how it breaks down for most people. They take inventory of their lives. Do they have a job? Are they doing okay financially? Are they worse or better off than they were before the current president took office? What does their future look like. What does their job security and the security of their family look like?

If they have a good job and are doing pretty well and feel pretty good about the future, they either don't vote or they vote for the party in power. If not, they vote for the opposition.

It's funny Robbie, that John Boner did the exact same things you just complained Reid did, yet over and over you always excused away him and never once complained about him not bringing votes to the floor and blocking anything he didn't want.

Why is it different when the house does it vs the senate? When I brought this up to you in the past, you always used the excuse that congress had no power or that Republicans were the minority (despite they controlled the house where they did this)

-Gas is below $3 due to breakthroughs in fracking & horizontal drilling, things he opposes as well as the Keystone Pipeline (Keystone Pipeline is an entirely separate issue but the point is this president is against fossil fuels and has thrown a shitload of government money towards green energy which hasn't panned out). Our country is shitting out oil right now, there is an over-abundance of supply which has caused the price to drop dramatically, and it has nothing to do with him.

-Unemployment & Stock Market has to do with the Federal Reserve keeping rates so low and pumping the economy full of cash for 6+ years. Obama taxes everyone, expands government regulation. He demonizes successful people and business owners. Back to low interest rates: this has also caused the rich to get richer and the income gap to widen, something Obama opposes. Poor people don't own the stock market. Also, the jobs that have come back are many part time jobs due to Obamacare regs, etc. And the unemployment rate is down due to many leaving the work force. We have had job growth in this country no doubt, but it has not been explosive or enough to keep up with population growth.

And the main reasons Dems got their asses kicked:

-People see him as totally incompetent when it comes to foreign policy with respect to Russia/Ukraine, Isis, Iran, Syria, Iraq, Ebola, et al. No tact. React from Crisis to Crisis. Deflect blame on others. Take zero accountability. And cover up when need to (Libya).

-He has no more excuses for why he can't get anything done. And the current status quo wasn't working and people see him and his leadership style of arrogance as a key part of that.

Well, then there were a lot of people who were brainwashed by Fox News yesterday because it was a blood bath for Democrats, and really, it was a bloodbath on them because people don't like Obama.

I actually feel bad for those in his party. Here in my state, there were very good Dems up for election and Republicans swept all the top state offices - wasn't even close. It was like people showed up so disenfranchised and voted Republican top to bottom down the entire ticket.

I don't see any problem with that statistic. Fact is, that's enough to get an accurate representation of voters. Hell, polls require ~1200 people to get highly accurate data for the nation's 600+ million people as a whole.

The house always passes plenty of bills, which stall in the Senate.. that's why its "the most deliberative body" Nancy Pelosi passed stuff (ending don't ask don't tell, cap and trade stuff) which never got a vote in the House.. what is rare is for bipartsian bills to pass the Senate and not get an up or down vote in the house.

Reid didn't' really shelve as much as Fox news told you.. what they refer to are first off bills which died in committe.. which is normal, and also bills passe by the house multiple times.. guess what "repeal Obamacare" was voted on and denied.. passing it 3 more times, yes are 3 bills that reid didn't call a vote on, but just passing the same legislation over and over, isn't really doing anything. Passing "jobs bill" which.. outlawed abortion, isn't an actual jobs bill, Reid isn't blocking "jobs legislation" he's blocking nonsense waste of time where the GOP tries to stuff "poison pills" into actual legulsation, but is honestly a waste of time. Can you name 3 SUBSTANTIVE (as in actual policy bills and not political stunts, and not copies of bills that were already voted on that the House passed again to prey on low information voters by saying see "see we're passing stuff and Reid is blocking it" bills that Reid "shelved" because I can easily name 3 that Boehner did...

I specifically brought these things up during the budget blockade that the Republicans made into a political showmanship war. The Senate had voted and passed a paid for budget but Boner wouldn't allow a vote on it on the house floor, even though many of his fellow Republicans wanted him to allow a vote.

Instead he played party politics costing tax payers millions of dollars if not billions. You excused it away by claiming it was all Obamas fault and it was ok for Republicans to do that, because they were the minority.

Now you turn around and bitch and moan at Reid for the exact thing you had no issue with Boner doing.
