It's easiy to gin up the base when you give them something to fight against. The GOP can't actually pass anything, but they sure can vote. The "ryan budget" will be picked apart for every penny taken away from.. women, minorities, seniors.. its much easier to be the opposition than the party in power. The GOP winning yesterday has no impact on the next two years, but using the GOP's positions and votes over these next two years will be a central campaign strategy for Democats for 2016 |
The media tried to paint a picture of Republicans obstructing everything.
That's been the talking point. What they didn't tell people was that Sen. Reid was the leader of the "Do Nothing" Senate. The House has passed plenty of bills. But Sen. Reid (as majority leader of the Senate) refused to let them go to a vote on the Senate floor. Basically ANYTHING that he didn't agree with in any way...he shelved. People saw through that shit after a while. Perhaps now some things will FINALLY make it past the Senate and to the President's desk for him to either sign or veto. Anything is better than what Reid did as majority leader. :( |
I see Crocket is hoping for failure, that's why I have him on ignore
If you are reading this shit for brains, this is our country. I would never advocate that they fail, I want things to work. This just proves what an asshole you really are! I'm hoping that they take a page from Newt Gingrich and do something similar when the republicans took control of congress under Clinton. |

The republicans spent 6 years doing everything they could to obstruct Obama. The democrats responded by not working with the republicans. I think since the tide has turned the democrats are going do what they can to stall anything the republicans may want to do. I don't see this election as a referendum on the democrats or the republicans. Two term presidents almost always loses seats in the second mid term. Those who hate Obama and the democrats came out in force and voted while those who feel more moderately towards the democrats didn't turn out to support him. Congress has a roughly 17% approval rating yet 97% of them were reelected. I don't expect the same group of people to suddenly start acting differently. |

answer that & you will be close to why dems keep losing to the party of the 1% :2 cents: |

Let's see...in 2006 they bounced Republicans out of power in Congress because they didn't like what they did. By 2010 they decided that the Dems weren't doing well in the House and put back in...Republicans! Now in 2014 they have decided the Dems suck and put back in...Republicans. And in a few years...it will all switch again. Insanity. |

I think most people don't give two shits about Nacy Pelosi or Harry Reid and couldn't pick either of them out of a line up. To me here is how it breaks down for most people. They take inventory of their lives. Do they have a job? Are they doing okay financially? Are they worse or better off than they were before the current president took office? What does their future look like. What does their job security and the security of their family look like? If they have a good job and are doing pretty well and feel pretty good about the future, they either don't vote or they vote for the party in power. If not, they vote for the opposition. |

It's funny Robbie, that John Boner did the exact same things you just complained Reid did, yet over and over you always excused away him and never once complained about him not bringing votes to the floor and blocking anything he didn't want. Why is it different when the house does it vs the senate? When I brought this up to you in the past, you always used the excuse that congress had no power or that Republicans were the minority (despite they controlled the house where they did this) When I showed you that Boner wouldn't bring the budget to a vote and he blocked it in the house, you excused it away every time.. Now you complain about Reid doing the same things Boner was doing.. Why is it ok for one side to do it, but not the other? You always claim to have no side and talk down about people whom choose a side, but time and time again, you explain away one side and condemn the others yet claim you don't take sides.. |
You're so full of shit crockett. You have NEVER "showed" me anything. You are a person who doesn't even seem to be aware of what's going on in our country and I (and several others) have schooled you over and over on this forum.
You can't show me one post EVER that I "excused" away John Boehner. I think he's a typical lifetime/career politician who needs to go. And again...you are acting totally ignorant. The House HAS passed several hundred bills. It's the SENATE that has not voted on ANY. Harry Reid shelves them. No vote is ever taken. No bill is sent to the President. For fuck's sake man...stop attacking me and actually open your damn eyes. What Reid did was pure politics to make sure the President didn't have to make any unpopular decisions. I guess you just can't see the difference in The House voting on bills and passing legislation VS The Senate not being allowed to vote at all and never even doing the ONE job they have: Passing a budget. Why don't you give it a rest? The country has foolishly voted in Republicans AGAIN. And in a few years, they will flip and vote in Democrats AGAIN. Nothing will change. And you will tell me I am foolish for thinking it's time to get rid of the 2 party system because you literally LOVE the Democrat Party. |

-Gas is below $3 due to breakthroughs in fracking & horizontal drilling, things he opposes as well as the Keystone Pipeline (Keystone Pipeline is an entirely separate issue but the point is this president is against fossil fuels and has thrown a shitload of government money towards green energy which hasn't panned out). Our country is shitting out oil right now, there is an over-abundance of supply which has caused the price to drop dramatically, and it has nothing to do with him. -Unemployment & Stock Market has to do with the Federal Reserve keeping rates so low and pumping the economy full of cash for 6+ years. Obama taxes everyone, expands government regulation. He demonizes successful people and business owners. Back to low interest rates: this has also caused the rich to get richer and the income gap to widen, something Obama opposes. Poor people don't own the stock market. Also, the jobs that have come back are many part time jobs due to Obamacare regs, etc. And the unemployment rate is down due to many leaving the work force. We have had job growth in this country no doubt, but it has not been explosive or enough to keep up with population growth. And the main reasons Dems got their asses kicked: -People see him as totally incompetent when it comes to foreign policy with respect to Russia/Ukraine, Isis, Iran, Syria, Iraq, Ebola, et al. No tact. React from Crisis to Crisis. Deflect blame on others. Take zero accountability. And cover up when need to (Libya). -He has no more excuses for why he can't get anything done. And the current status quo wasn't working and people see him and his leadership style of arrogance as a key part of that. |
Biggy...you obviously don't understand.
Pres. Obama is powerless to do anything. I'm not even sure what he DOES every day. According to crockett...this is ALL Bush's doing. Obama isn't responsible for ANTYHING EVER. Apparently only Bush ever had the ability do stuff. Obama has no power whatsoever and is an innocent bystander. He WANTS to help all of us. But the evil Koch brothers pretty much have tied his hands and kept all of George W. Bush's evil plans in place and those plans are even getting worse despite the President bravely trying to stop it. If Sweet Baby Jesus Obama only could defeat the evil Republicans, we would have streets paved with gold and everybody deliriously happy with their "healthcare" while dining on their foodstamps. Your entire post is obviously based on the brainwashing you've received from Fox News |

I actually feel bad for those in his party. Here in my state, there were very good Dems up for election and Republicans swept all the top state offices - wasn't even close. It was like people showed up so disenfranchised and voted Republican top to bottom down the entire ticket. Sad really, he screwed a lot of people over in his own party. Imagine your some guy/girl, younger, with your own political aspirations. You invest your life in your political career and you get washed out because people don't like the president, so they just vote for the other side. Obama took office 2 years ago, he won the electoral college by a landslide, but the popular vote narrow and declared it a "mandate." Well that mandate was very short-lived LOL. FYI. Fox news is the worst station in the world, only rivaled by MSNBC. |
Quote:
Robbie you are so fucking biased you can't even see the Forrest for the trees. I brought it up several times in past arguments about Boner not bringing the budget up for a vote even though there were people in the Republican Party whom said they wanted to vote on it and many believed it would have passed weeks before he finally put it to a vote. You tell me I don't know what's going on in this country, meanwhile you live in Robbie's World, where you think the president can just snap his fingers and do this or that. Your hatred of Obama has made you just as blinded as Vendzilla is. |
Why don't you give it a rest crockett?
All you do is worry about what you THINK I think. You don't stay on topic and you act half fucking crazy on here. Look, I know you aren't in this business anymore and you just come here for fun. But wouldn't it be a bit funner to NOT be so confrontational and angry all the time? Nobody here really gives a flying fuck what you or I think about politics. As for which of us is biased: There are two of us arguing here. Me and you. One of us is Libertarian and wants the END of the 2 party system. One of us is on here constantly being defensive over the Democrat Party and attacking the Republican Party non-stop. I think Boehner is a typical crooked politician out for himself. I think Obama is a typical crooked politician out for himself. You think ONLY Boehner is the bad guy. Which one of us is biased I wonder? And yes...the Pres. CAN just "snap his fingers" and stop the NSA from spying. " As a Defense Agency, NSA operates under the authority of the Department of Defense." And who does the Secretary Of Defense answer to? The President. He is part of the President's cabinet. Goddamn crockett...I quoted the President HIMSELF saying that he decided NOT to stop the NSA spying. So even President Obama's own words straight from his mouth don't deter your blind ignorance. Please just give it a rest. You are an angry person who seems to be bewildered by the shady world of politics. You really don't have much left to say on the subject. Everybody on this forum already knows your bias and that you are a die-hard Obama-maniac and LOVE the Democrat Party. You are the ideal sucker for a politician. A "true-believer". |

It's quite ironic you tell me to stop worrying about what I think you think and then you go on to try and tell me what you think I think.. Typical Robbie, everyone else is the problem.. :error |
Campaign finances fuckery is the root of it all.
|
crockett, you seriously need some mental help man.
You are not even contributing to discussions anymore. And as I said...it isn't like you are going to say anything enlightening anyway. Just the same old thing defending the indefensible because you think this is some kind of "team sport". I'd love to see you post sometime about ANYTHING but your hatred of Republicans and love of Democrats. Don't you have anything that we could talk about sometime on here that doesn't pertain to that obsession of yours? |
40% of the nation’s adult population voted. Does anyone realize that statistically that amounts to about 22 % republican and 18% democrat?
so...In all reality you've just allowed 22% of the nation’s adult voters to decide what they think is best for the remaining 78% of the nation’s people. And their definition of "best" is extreme idealism that only benefits money, money, and more money for those that already have more than they know how to spend..... never for the everyday man woman or child. Fear politics really won this time. Not GOP but ISIS and EBOLA scare played skillfully as always. |
Good point Helmut.
And it's one of the big reasons things never change. 8 years ago, that small percentage of people decided they were sick of the Republicans in Congress. So they switched them for Democrats. Now they're sick of Democrats and they decided to try out something "new": Republicans! This shit has been going on for 150 years or so. Our country's citizens need to get involved and start looking at the issues and holding politicians accountable for what they promise versus what they actually DO in office. And for God's sakes...stop just voting for Republicans and Democrats over and over and expecting something to actually change. 40% turnout is disgraceful. |
The Government is broken.
There ya go. Have fun everyone! |

The Govt. is "Working" just fine...as a well-oiled machine for taking in revenue and funneling it back out while bullying every other country on Earth into doing what the U.S. govt. wants them to do. |

No, instead, what the turnout shows is that republican voters are more energized than democratic voters/dem voters are more lazy than repub voters. . |
Ahh... it was all a misunderstanding. See, when someone asked and thought they said it was a "sure win", what they had really meant was as a response to republicans "Sure, win." and they did.
|
Do we still live in democracy, or this is all moved by Citizens United money ( Reps and dems equally guilty) ? "Power goes to the highest bidder " banana republic called USA? Money buys everything, power, court system etc. Is this really what's left ?

Reid didn't' really shelve as much as Fox news told you.. what they refer to are first off bills which died in committe.. which is normal, and also bills passe by the house multiple times.. guess what "repeal Obamacare" was voted on and denied.. passing it 3 more times, yes are 3 bills that reid didn't call a vote on, but just passing the same legislation over and over, isn't really doing anything. Passing "jobs bill" which.. outlawed abortion, isn't an actual jobs bill, Reid isn't blocking "jobs legislation" he's blocking nonsense waste of time where the GOP tries to stuff "poison pills" into actual legulsation, but is honestly a waste of time. Can you name 3 SUBSTANTIVE (as in actual policy bills and not political stunts, and not copies of bills that were already voted on that the House passed again to prey on low information voters by saying see "see we're passing stuff and Reid is blocking it" bills that Reid "shelved" because I can easily name 3 that Boehner did... |
On a side not kinda funny that the 4 red states vote passed to raise the minimum wage :2 cents:

I've watched you do this for a long time and then you try to qualify it, by a quick.. I hate both sides. I'm just calling you out on it, because you do this all the time.. I specifically brought these things up during the budget blockade that the Republicans made into a political showmanship war. The Senate had voted and passed a paid for budget but Boner wouldn't allow a vote on it on the house floor, even though many of his fellow Republicans wanted him to allow a vote. Instead he played party politics costing tax payers millions of dollars if not billions. You excused it away by claiming it was all Obamas fault and it was ok for Republicans to do that, because they were the minority. Now you turn around and bitch and moan at Reid for the exact thing you had no issue with Boner doing. |
Still just attacking me huh crockett?
Not wanting to discuss anything...just attack. Man, you come across like a miserable person. As for Boehner...I will say it for the thousandth time: He's just another piece of shit lifetime/career politician who isn't worth a damn. Just like Reid, just like Obama, just like Pelosi, just like McConnell, and just like almost every bureaucrat in D.C. You see crockett...that's what YOU don't ever "get". You rail against "one side" and LOVE the "other side". I see ONLY "one side" currently in Washington D.C.: The ruling elite. I don't like any of them. As for Reid...I'm embarrassed that an old senile crook like him is my state senator. I think he may have been THE worst Senate leader of all times. But that's just my OPINION based on what I have watched happen. No, that's not defending Boehner or Mitch McConnell. I think they both are horrible and need to go home. I think Boehner has been disgraceful as House leader. He's no better than Pelosi in his own way. And I don't THINK McConnell will be a very good leader of the Senate either. See crockett...unlike you, I find fault with ALL of them. You just seem to think it's all "one side" because you are...well, you are who you are I guess. |

See there yea go again.. You don't like it if I or others put words in your mouth, but you are more than happy to put words in my mouth. It's of course always different when you do it. Where have you ever seen me praise Reid or anyone in congress for that matter? You seem to get off on claiming I'm pro this or that, just because I counter your arguments. Just because I tell you you are living in fantasy land because you think Obama can just flip a switch and turn off the spying, doesn't mean I'm in love with Obama. Just because I show you how the republican congress has blocked votes, doesn't mean I agree with everything the Democratic senate does. I just argue against your typical talking points because you claim all the time that you are so unbiased but you do nothing but parrot the right wing talking points.. |
@crockett:
I haven't put any words in your mouth. I have argued points with you in other threads. In THIS thread, you came into it with guns blazing at me and attacking me without even discussing the topic itself. You continue to do so now. And just like our invasion and subsequent occupation and now re-entry into Iraq: I'm unsure what your end game is. |
Quote:
I'm always repeating the Republican talking points like these: The Bush administration used 9-11 to push through the Patriot Act and expand govt. power. The TSA (formed under Bush with The Patriot Act) hasn't caught ANY terrorists trying to blow up a plane. But they've certainly made plenty of drug busts. Abortion is legal and should stay that way. Pot should immediately be legalized nationwide and anybody in jail for possession or selling marijuana should be released immediately. No way in hell this country should EVER build a "wall" (isn't that what the communists did in Germany?) There ya go crockett. That's me "parroting the Republican talking points". Where the hell you get your ideas from is beyond me. The ONLY thing that the Republicans pretend to stand for that I agree with is less taxes and a govt. that doesn't control my every move. I say "pretend", because when Republicans get in power...they do the opposite. |
Quote:
What's going to be interesting is that now that the Congress is GOP controlled, they have something to prove or lose come 2016. Democrats can't do anything, it's one party in Congress and if they get their shit together and make things happen, they will keep their lead and they know it! Having control of the Senate and House means you have control of the budget |
