I used to go and see him every week when my kid was little.
He knew he was a star, he'd just sit there with his finger up his own ass and do an occasional poo painting on the glass.

Another true story.

I've only ever had one black neighbor. He used to wait a week until after I cut my lawn, to cut his. He would cut 6 feet into my lawn, and the other neighbors lawn, to make his lawn look bigger.

He also kept 5 pit bulls in a tiny cage in the woods BEHIND his fence, that never saw the light of day and would bark all day long without him shutting them up. Poor bastards.

This guy came by one day and wanted to "show me something" on his laptop. He got my network password. 4 months later I found out he cut off his internet a week after that, and was using mine ever since.

He also approached me one day, asking if I would be the "token white guy" and help him go to walmart, bestbuy, and other places to get computers out of the display like I was going to purchase them, so he could then steal them.

He also fake hurt himself on the job and tried to file a lawsuit against his employer.. wearing a fake neckbrace around for 3 months while he didn't work.

He was the worst neighbor I ever had, and the only black neighbor I ever had.

I went to a private school growing up. There was one black student. I liked him. 3 weeks into school I noticed my gym sneakers were missing. They re-surfaced a month later with his name written on the bottom of them in a huge permanent pen.

When I approached him about it, he said "oh shit man, I didn't know they were yours.." laughed and said my bad.

These are just some of the subtle differences between cultures that are indeed very real.

Indeed...you know that they say about "a few bad apples"...unfortunately when it's the whole bunch to begin with well...there is not much hope for the one or two actual good apples in the bunch!

I had a neighbor here in Los Angeles who was a HUGE black guy and he was the most horrible human being I have EVER known...no exaggeration, there was not one single redeeming thing about this walking turd!

He would play his hip hop "music"/noise with so much base that it shook the entire apartment building. I posted a very polite note on the mailbox explaining that some people who are new to California might not realize that most apartment building are made with wooden frames because of earthquakes.

I went on to explain that it was not so much the volume level but the base that transmitted the energy into the walls and in turn to the wooden structure which caused the vibration. I kid you not...the walls of our entire apartment shook and picture on the walls moved...the stove would shake, we actually had to leave the apartment for hours at at time.

I did not call him out but simply posted the note stating that since we all have to share the environment that we all should have some consideration for other neighbors.

Later the note was gone and I overheard him laughing about it to a friend (they were talking so loud I could hear them) and he said he didn't care...and sure enough the next day it was as loud as the day before.

I called the landlord and they contacted him. For a few days the level was down but only a few days...the right back up! His "music" contained nothing the word "hahahahahaha" over and over with a few phrases about "fucking whores in the ass" thrown in and worse. This was played so loud you could hear it clearly a few hundred feet away in the street.

There are families with many young kids living within clear hearing distance as this is very dense (West Hollywood has a huge population all within a very tiny area within L.A.). I actually recorded the "music" that I could clearly hear from inside my apartment.

I posted the wave files online and emailed the links to the landlord. I told him that really didn't think that it was fair not only to the tenants in HIS building BUT also in the 4 other building to have their kids exposed to such filth when they played outside. The landlord finally got him to give him a month's notice and when he finally was gone things have been quite since!

I forgot to mention the countless times the police were called when he as his girlfriend would fight! I never called them myself. I didn't need to as they were so loud anyone in the surrounding building could hear them clearly screaming obscenities at each other! It was to the point that it was weekly. Just incredible. As I said, this person was repugnant in every way and with his anger issues, clearly dangerous.

I actually suspected him of selling meth out of the apartment after hearing many of his conversation on the phone...he was always loud and would have screaming matches with someone on the phone pretty much several times a day and it was pretty clear what the topic was. So we feared physical repercussion if we confronted him.

I can tell you that EVERYONE is glad that he was finally gone. I know because I have talked to quite a few neighbor about it after the fact (I have lived in this building going on 3 years) so I pretty much know everyone around.

I used to live above a white trash couple that was just the same. They would play music at annoying levels and they would watch WWF wrestling at top volume and scream and yell at the TV during the broadcast. They would also constantly fight and scream and yell and he would go out and drink, come home drunk and then pound on the door for 20 minutes trying to wake her up so she could let him in because he "couldn't afford" his own key.

It drove me so crazy I ended up paying the few dollars to get him a key made and I constantly complained. Finally I was able to get the manager into my place while they were watching TV. He gave them a warning and they got pissed at me.

Eventually, I moved. Partly because of them and partly because I was moving to a different city.

Just part of the bigger plan my good man..
