The article also says his estranged wife and kids have control of his shares in Mega. Looks like Kim's wife might have decided not to go down with the ship.

Bump for his legal team taking him for 10 million then dumping him.

Phoenix 11-26-2014 09:51 PM

Imagine that, you steal 100 million and have to go to jail for it.
I hope it is just the start.
Visa and Mastercard cut out of the piracy game. Serious jail time for theft going around.
I dare to say it, but maybe people will be forced to pay for porn again..haha

The bail hearing at the Auckland District Court, before Judge Nevin Dawson, had still not finished when it ended for the day after 5pm. It will resume at 11.45am tomorrow.

Court rules prevent Radio New Zealand News reporting why the Crown believes bail was breached, or any other details of the all-day hearing.

Earlier, Judge Dawson closed the courtroom to the public and members of the media for a hearing in chambers to discuss how Mr Dotcom should be cross-examined.

At a preliminary hearing last week, Judge Dawson imposed strict new bail conditions, which remain in place.

Mr Dotcom may not travel more than 80km from his Coatesville home and is not allowed to travel by helicopter, boat or any other form of sea transport.

Yet bankers squander billions, practically stealing people's money, and they still get huge bonuses. Now THAT is a huge slap in the face, although the vast majority of people don't even realize it.

He is probably investing though his trust.

Sounds like he put all his assets into the trust and is preparing to file bankruptcy.

He even got his account terminated on the new mega site. That's a great way to demonstrate he have no influence over the site.

I'm guessing he will spend a week in jail and soon we will hear the civil suits against him has been dropped or settled for pennies (an undisclosed amount)

I can tell you as a matter of fact that the civil suits against him won't settle.

Furthermore, the criminal charges against him will see him extradited. There is a renewed determination to get these matters finalised by all the parties seeking to extract justice from this man.

kane 11-28-2014 03:51 PM

It looks like he remains free for the time being.

Didn't know that. I have always been under the impression that the entire megaupload case was a publicity stunt to show how SOPA was a bad idea.

I stopped following the case when they figured out the raid was illegal and the evidence seized couldn't be used.

The case sounds like a clusterfuck to me

I don't think they got much, if anything from the raid on his house that would be used in the Megaupload case. They got his servers which is what matters.

To me the case comes down to a very simply thing. The government says they have emails between various members of the Megaupload crew (potentially even Dotcom himself) where they talk about how they not only know their service is being used for piracy, but how much money they are making from piracy and how they encouraged some people to keep using it for piracy. Of course Dotcom says just the opposite.

If those emails exist Dotcom is fucked. If they do exist I wouldn't be shocked to see one or more of his co-defendants testify against him in exchange for a deal and if they flip Dotcom will be scrambling to cut the best plea he can.

If these emails don't really exist it could be a very interesting trail that Dotcom could have a shot at winning.

Yesterday Kim Dotcom walked from court free for the moment as the prosecutors bid to revoke his bail failed.

Kim Dotcom has successfully fought off an attempt by the US government to have him remanded in custody after a New Zealand court ruled he had not broken bail conditions and posed no flight risk.

Dotcom, the founder of the file-sharing site Megaupload, has been on bail since February 2012 while fighting an attempt by US authorities to extradite him over copyright infringement, money laundering and racketeering charges.

Auckland district court rejected claims from the US government that Dotcom, a German national with permanent New Zealand resident status, had stockpiled a large amount of money before an attempt to flee the country.

The big thing all along is the extradition. If he loses that battle all of this other stuff he has been doing doesn't really matter because he will then be forced to come here and stand trial which clearly he doesn't want to do.

AdultKing 12-02-2014 04:34 AM

.... and now Kim Dotcom has really lost the plot
