Just watched a quick story about this case on our local news station.

Interesting to note that many of the "small government" advocates are usually silent when things like this happen...or they even support this type of government behavior .

I was living in Manhattan at the time. That and the Dialo story were both HUGE.

Actually the medical examiner said it and called it a homicide. I think possibly he knows better.

He said the choke hold killed him directly? - I very much doubt it, unless he broke or seriously damaged something in his neck...

Think about it - You can't suffocate someone in a few seconds.....

How about asking him to put his hands behind his back, and he doesn't comply then you tase him? The dude wasn't resisting at all and didn't seem threatening whatsoever.

btw that shit was in a bad part of NYC and the fucking twit should have not resisted...

He was doing something illegal... and should have complied

But no one wants to hear that. They hear what they want to hear and the popular thing is that Cops are all racist killers.

The guy should of course have obeyed, but giving death sentence on the spot is wrong. Also, I don't think that it is right to give death sentence for that altogether.

The officer(s) shouldn't have killed him. But I don't care that much if US folks kill each other, unless UN declares some peace bombing mission or something like that.

I guess a race war would be good for the "news" business. :winkwink:

Agreed .....

Actually the ME ruled it was homicide by chokehold. Contributing factors could have been his asthma, weight, etc.

Apparently GFY is smarter than you...

'Eric Garner, the Staten Island dad who complained that he couldn?t breathe as he was subdued by cops, died from compression of the neck, the medical examiner said Friday.

The autopsy also found that compressions to the chest and ?prone positioning during physical restraint by police? killed Garner. The manner of death, according to the medical examiner, was homicide.'

NYPD chokehold death ruled homicide

Uhmmmm....

First, the chokehold was not "illegal" and that very obvious, frequently stated fact being wrongly stated from the start, should have been an immediate red flag for any rational, reasonable, logical person and made it clear the article is pushing an angle and trying to incite others.
Garner's death was found by the New York City Medical Examiner's Office to be a result of compression to the neck, compression to the body, and prone positioning, along with asthma, heart disease and obesity as contributing
factors
Since you guys can't read at all... it means there were multiple contributing factors... not a single factor/action by a single person which killed him.

But hey, who needs facts when you're pushing an agenda?? ;)

bagfull 12-04-2014 08:25 AM

police do not suppose to use choke hold, he did, why was he not fired??!!!

xNetworx 12-04-2014 08:34 AM

Excessive force all the way. The guy was selling cigarettes. No reason to get violent with him so quickly when he wouldn't comply. The autopsy said compression of the neck and chest killed him. All of you guys in here sucking cop-dick should think about if this happened to you for having a beer on the sidewalk or some other minor, bullshit infraction.

Because confronting unarmed big fat black man, who is just standing on the street, is so scary. :)

Also selling loose cigarettes is that kind of felony that you could execute him on the spot, just for that.

Technically not illegal but against NYPD policy, you do understand what the word 'homicide' means, don't you?

So in your police state loving brain, what exactly would a cop have to do to get indicted?

I don't think I can agree with that. That guy while maybe he was agitated, he made no verbal threats and was not acting in a threatening or aggressive manor. The cops clearly did noting but agitate that situation which ultimately lead to his death.

While I do understand cops have a tough job, in this instance they clearly used force when it was not needed. Maybe he was breaking the law, maybe he wasn't, but he certainly was not being violent which required him being put into a chokehold.

Yes maybe he was an asshole or a dick or even a hoodlum, but he didn't deserve to die for what he was doing at that time.
