I have a good friend who is black; He is the godfather of my only child and I am he godfather of his first born son. I asked him if he lives in fear of being shot and his reply was "I don't even live in fear of being pulled over". He is blacker than black and lives in the whitest town I've ever been to. (He lives in Montana.) He also doesn't roll around saying "fuck da police".

White people are stupid too, they assault police too, and they shot and killed by police too. No one is protesting whites getting killed.

They are protesting because an 18 year old man assaulted a police officer and paid the price for it. Not saying he deserved to die, but my got assault a police officer and you are playing with fire.

"I have a good friend who is black"

I started laughing when I read that.

They already addressed that problem. Simply ignore it and call any white person that points it out a "racist." Problem solved! :thumbsup

The USA a police dictatorship for the rich.

Over half of the 2.3 million people in American prisons are black.

Sure, if you have two serious felonies on your record and you commit a petty crime you could get your third strike, but by that time you have already spent plenty of time in jail for very serious things.

Here is the list of offenses you can get a strike for in California.

There isn't any petty there.

Thanks to a brand-new, get-tough-on-crime state law, Wilkerson would soon be sentenced to life in prison for stealing a pair of plain white tube socks worth $2.50.

"No, sir, I was not expecting that one," he says now, laughing darkly. Because Wilkerson had two prior convictions, both dating back to 1981, the shoplifting charge counted as a third strike against him. He was sentenced to 25 years to life, meaning that his first chance for a parole hearing would be in 25 years.

What were his first two strikes? (I did a quick search and found that this guy with the socks has twice been previously convicted for aiding and abetting a robbery).

As I stated above you don't go to jail for 25 years for committing three petty crimes. Two of them have to be serious felonies or violent crimes.

A plain clothes California Highway Patrol detective, who had been marching with anti-police demonstrators, aims his gun at protesters after some in the crowd identified him and his partner during an arrest in Oakland, California, December 10, 2014. Chief Avery Browne, commander of the California Highway Patrol's Golden Gate Division, said two plainclothes CHP detectives were surrounded by up to 50 demonstrators who ignored orders to back off, despite one of the officers first taking out his baton and identifying himself as police.

Yes and he went to jail for doing it. Now the state has put him in jail for 25 years for stealing a pair of socks.

that is feudal pre French revolution (NOT) justice.

It also criminalises the poorest and weakest in society who have failed schools, no jobs and no hope...

But I suppose it is just a bit better than the Cops executing people on the spot

A California police officer has posted threatening messages on social media to people protesting against police brutality and discrimination in the US.

"Threaten me or my family and I will use my God-given and law appointed right and duty to kill you," Phillip White wrote on Twitter, adding the hashtag#CopsLivesMatter, making fun of the protestors? slogan "Black Lives Matter."

I don't disagree that 25 years is too much for stealing socks, but it is too much to ask citizens of this country to not commit to felonies and then commit a third crime?

I'm 43 years old and I have had some very hard times in my life and yet I have never stolen from a store or committed a felony. When do we say enough is enough? How many crimes to we let a person commit before we are done dealing with them?

How many bankers do we allow to break the economy?

How many white people do we arrest for cocaine?

How many black people for crack?

Peoples behaviour is conditioned by the institutions they grow up in. Put a child in a loving family with a good school and interesting career ahead of him and most will flourish.

Put a child in a broken society with a family failing, crap schooling and the cops stopping you every 5 minutes and you will get crime.

If America spent the money it wastes on Wars and prisons and spent it on good jobs and schools you would have a fraction of the crime. Plus some civil rights.

I don't disagree, but at some point you have to take responsibility for your own actions. If someone is young and does something dumb because they feel helpless or lost or held down by the man and they are punished from it, they should learn from that and realize that what they are doing is wrong and they need to change their ways.

The jail system needs to be reformed so that when these people come out of jail they have some kind of skill or at least some kind of direction and can get a job and join society instead of just going back to being a criminal.

At the same time, I as a law abiding citizen, shouldn't have to worry about having my shit stolen, my house broken into or getting mugged simply because these people are "victims of society" and don't know any better.

I agree too, that people have the right to live free from crime, but societies with low crime and few people in prison prove that it is possible.
