I actually looks at trailers, some where free lol. But the park fees where at least $350 most around $600. I have a nice apartment for $800 so I think that's a better deal. Probably grab some property next year and build a palace on it. Why not for these prices. $400k here gets you a million dollar home in LA.

I had the best apartment ever in Vegas. I got a great deal on a one bedroom with a den, which was perfect for me since I was single and working from home there. The place was super nice, laid out well, in a decent part of town - $780/month. Granted that was 12 years ago, Vegas has some nice places to live at a decent price.

I'm not sure how it is with trailers, but mobile homes have to pay car insurance too since they can technically be moved. It's really odd.

I would not build a house there, unless I would have "too much money", and I would buy something instead. Vegas has been one of the fastest growing cities in the World, and there is a lot of very nice and new houses on the West (and South) part of the town. All these houses are different, they did not make them all the same, or anything like that. You have a lot of "bells and whistles", things like roof terraces, and other things. Anything you may want, is already there. I would prefer to live in a nice area, around nice people, instead of having a big piece of land somewhere in North Las Vegas, which has a "different feel".

I would say that real estate over there is one of the best, if not the best in the World, also as compared to other places in the United States (kind of, I am sure you would find a lot of good apartments / houses in the other parts too, as it is a very rich country).

Not that I would want to live there, but this is a three story apartment / penthouse with an elevator in Sky on the Strip.

chaze 12-18-2014 01:09 PM

I would take a rooftop terrace or a 3 story penthouse any day.

Having a dog is a pain though in a tall building plus living on the strip would be just too tempting I think. A 3 story house with a terrace sound awesome!

That is insane. This is a pretty normal city except for one tiny section called "the strip".
And everywhere in this town are LOCAL deals. Locals eat and drink 1/2 price at The Rio for instance. Similar stuff like that all over town.

Live in a trailer park? WTF??? lol

Unless you are a tourist paying $17 for a well brand drink and blowing thousands going to the "nightclubs" at the big casinos...living here is as cheap as when I lived in South Carolina.

It's exactly the same as living most everywhere else I've ever lived. The only difference is gambling is legal and the casinos are open 24 hours a day.

You will be hard pressed to find many locals (out of the over 2 MILLION people who live here) who actually go to the strip or EVER go to a Casino at 3 in the morning.

Most people in Vegas work normal 9 to 5 jobs, have kids, etc.

I know in the movies and in books it seems that the strip IS Vegas. But it's not. It's just a tiny, tiny section of a big city (geographically as well as population).

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS! :thumbsup:thumbsup

I've already added a screenshot from there, but this part is very nice as a whole:

North West

Especially the left side of the 95 Freeway.

So land lots in LV are 600K more expensive? Because not sure if there are huge price differences in materials and labor between those 2. When talking about building a house.
Or more likely you are comparing different neighborhoods...

I am kind of getting in too many details here, but I used to live there for over seven years, and this is a good question for me.

One thing that I forgot to mention is Sam's Club. You definitely want to sign up and shop there. There is a good Smart & Final close to Decatur and Charleston, I would recommend checking it out too. I've seen another one that was very bad, and these are the only two that I've seen. In the good one they had a lot of good products, like frozen chicken wings, and other things that one person was buying, and selling in his restaurant.

Sam's Club + (Costco) + (Smart & Final) + Food 4 Less + 99 Cent store (or / and Dollar Tree) is where you want to shop, I would say. Sam's Club is very good, and the prices are low too.

You can get a whole roasted chicken (warmed up and ready to eat) for as low as $2.00 (they lower the prices at the end of the day, if food does not sale) in Walmart Neighborhood Market. This one is generally more expensive, so I would not shop there, but chicken is very good.

You can check out H&H Hawaiian BBQ, for a change too. This one is not as good as the other places that I've mentioned so far, from my point of view.

chaze 12-18-2014 06:20 PM

Property is about 50k for a nice area. That's 350k to build a palace.

Or just buy one, everything is new and pretty modern in the design. Looking forward to house shopping next year. It's hard to get a view here though, everything is flat.

I banned walmart and sam club which is the same company years ago.

But thanks for the tip! I use Costco, they treat their employees way better and still have awesome prices and good products.

I've been watching the market there and it's pretty decent time right now with a big inventory, esp with foreclosures. You can buy a decent sized 1 bedroom condo/apartment (not in the hood either) for less then the cost of a car. Example would be in Summerlin / West Vegas at around 40k-50k. HOA fees run about 150-200/mo.

So if you needed or wanted to mortgage a 1 bedroom it would cost you about est $250+$200 HOA.

$500 a month for a condo built in the mid 90s

:2 cents:

Lol, read all his posts in this thread, I think he's namedropped at least 40 restaurants and stores. This was his best line of the thread, "I am not sure what it is made of, but Del Taco seems to be good quality food."

Looks like fatfoo is back and has landed new sponsorship deals.

dont go to casino. dont be addicted.

slapass 12-19-2014 04:33 AM

If you don't do the strip then aren't you just living in a desert city with all the same chains as any town in the US? Like what's the point?

Robbie 12-19-2014 10:41 AM

I think that brother may have forgotten to mention this place:

7-11, it's a very convenient store where you can get soda and also fill up your gas tank. They also have candy and sandwiches

lol

Money may not be a factor in 100% of situations, but as far as I was saying / recommending 7/11 is 160 - 180 / 200% more expensive than Sam's Club / Food 4 Less / 99 Cents. Whole Foods Market is good too, I am not saying... I was recommending these places because they are good + cheap.

Church's Chicken is better than Popeye's and KFC, I dont remember any other chains, but it is better than them too, at least from my point of view. You can ask them for hot sauce, every time you get your order, and it goes really good with their food (chicken).

How much is the hot sauce and where do you recommend placing it on the chicken?

Johnny, I think people are amused because you aren't recommending anything that is exclusive to Las Vegas.

You could be talking about a tiny town in Alabama and saying the same thing.

We ALL are aware of chain stores, fast food, etc.

The OP was looking for tips that are exclusive to Vegas. :)

lol my place is pretty quite, maybe I got lucky. So far it's been pretty chill, I just treat the strip like a vacation and only do one night at a time.

Already lost some cash though, that hurts lol. I suppose it's a initiation here. Probably take off when it gets too hot.

wdsguy 01-13-2015 01:00 AM

I am moving out after 2 years as Vegas is boring as fuck but I moved here to save on taxes and wasn't planning on a long term stay. I've barely gone down to the strip 2 times in the last 2 years.

Pros: No state taxes, no traffic and the housing is cheap. Otherwise it's a pretty boring town if you are not into gambling or the nightlife. Most of the things here you can find in any other decent sized city.

Cons: it's hot as hell during summer, bad weather if you have allergies, plenty of ghetto people and transients and if you come from NY or CA then you'll find that the ethnic restaurants here are not that good. It gets boring fairly quick on weekends.

seksi 01-13-2015 08:42 AM

There is a big outdoor flea market that's cool. Might be broadacres? Pretty good deals on fruit, okay food, good looking Latinas

I've heard it's possible to make pretty good money selling things there, if you have things. I had a difficult, older friend who got rich there on velvet paintings or something.
