Marky Mark is asking for a pardon now (at age 43) because it's hurting his flipping burger empire. His motivation is $ - not in being pardoned because he wants his record clean for his legacy or Hollywood reputation.

Wahlberg did something wrong, was sent to prison, did his time and released. He wiised up (whether his prejudice way of thinking changed or not) and hasn't re-offended.

So by all publicly known accounts, he has reformed but you are unwilling to accept that he's done his time, reformed and made a better person out of himself but you're one of the first to run toward the boards on any issues where this type of behavior is targeted toward a black person.

Good for the goose, good for the gander. Equal rights doesn't mean special rights.

They have something just for that: Its called an "expungement."

It happened, you changed your life, all is forgiven and its "Kinda off your record.

But a "Pardon" as if the crimes never happened. Thats something I absolutely do not agree with. Racially motivated crimes are not forgivable to me. Take the expungement and shut the fuck up!!

I have a friend that royally fucked up at 20 years old. Major steroid drug dealer and did a laundry list of other bad shit, he went to jail and everything. Nothing violent which was probably his saving grace.

This kid happened to be a Genius in every sense of the word. After he got out of jail He went back to school got his MBA/JD(Master in Business+Law Degree) in 2 years from USC and is now a High powered LA attorney making serious money.

Keep in mind MBA Program at USC is 2 years(If you can get in) and a JD (Juris Doctorate) degree is a 3 year program. To do both at the same time and be at the top of your class in both programs is unheard of.

Now the super tricky part that astonishes me is; how can he be admitted to the California Bar with such a series of bad felonies? A normal person would never a "Moral Turpitude" background check.

Answer: This guy was donating his time with the the local Congressmen and Senators. Working on their campaigns, etc while he was going to school. Got his Republican Favor card and had the governor of California at the time (Pete Wilson) cash it in for a "Pardon."

Been friends with this guys since freshman year in high school. In high school he was building Sleeper Race Cars and racing for Pink slips all throughout High school. The guys was seriously a super genius jewish kid. Always accomplished anything and everything he set out to do. Before he started going back to school he told me his plan and I was: "Good Luck with that".

So its posible to get a Pardon you just need to not make it public and do it in backroom deals.

indeed. It's all about making sure the punishment goes on forever, regardless of the fact that any simpleton can grasp: that people can and do change every single day, especially from your mid to late teens > grown adult with the life experience that goes with it. Some of the shit I did as a 16 - 20 year old I've no idea what must have been going through my mind to even think that was ok, but I (like millions and millions of others, so not saying I'm anything special here, far from it) changed for the far better.

Though I still get sucked into threads like this, so I haven't quite shaken off all my dumbfuckness.

and? this is the main reason not to pardon him? because he wants to make money, 29 years later?

Here's an interesting read and an interview with the guy who became blind in one eye do to being punched by Marky Mark:

Quote:

When Marky Mark was fifteen, he had civil actions placed against him for hurling rocks at black people while screaming racial slurs at them. One year later, in a single day, he knocked Thahn Lam—a middle-aged man of Vietnamese descent—unconscious with a stick while calling him “Vietnam fucking shit” (assumedly he brushed up his wordplay skills in the Funky Bunch) and, on that same evening, punched Hoa Trinh—again several years his senior—in the eye, permanently blinding him. After being brought to the scene on the first charge, Wahlberg told officers, “You don’t have to let him identify me, I’ll tell you now that’s the motherfucker whose head I split open” and apparently made several remarks regarding “gooks” and “slant-eyed gooks” during police proceedings. For his crimes he spent 45 days in a correctional facility.

yup, in fact that guy thinks wahlberg should get the pardon

Trinh was interviewed in December 2014 by the Daily Mail, who revealed that he had already lost his eye during the Vietnam War, was not severely injured by Wahlberg, and did not know the identity of his assailant prior to being contacted by the media.

Even stipulating that, he still punched the guy out. Plus he knocked another unconscious. Not making any judgment one whether he should be pardoned or not...just pointing out that the stories of him chasing down minorities pales in comparison to the actual physical violence he caused.

knocking a guy out/unconcious is assault and that's the charge he served time for. nothing more.

What are you trying to achieve?

The guy is a good example of a violent criminal changing their ways and becoming very successful.

Only a halfwit would want to continue to punish this type of guy, pardon him and show other criminals that if you do change, you have the opportunity to start a clean slate once you have proven your ability to *walk the straight and narrow* :2 cents:

Actually, there is something more...a criminal record...which is why this is still an issue that Marky Mark wants to resolve. Since the partially blind guy supports the pardon request, then I tend to support it as well. But I also think they should attempt to find the other guy that Marky Mark knocked unconscious to see what he thinks, and consider it was well

Think if this was black "Wahlberg" with 20 priors and excuses BM would've made how he deserves 21st chance and how society was the one to blame.

Yes, of course, in America, you can. If you have been convicted of a crime, and served time or whatever penalty was imposed, after a number of years of good behavior you can request your crime be pardoned, or stricken from your record, or whatever. Felons can't vote in America, but if you have reformed yourself you can request to have that status removed.

I am sure someone who cared enough to do the research would be able to show you that many non famous people have been pardoned after years of good behavior, which Marky Mark has definitely exhibited since becoming an adult.

I assure you that it is not possible in some states especially the one I'm living in. You actually CAN file a request to get your voting rights restored here but you will not get a felon status removed.

For things you do as a minor, yes.

Is pretty much available to anyone that asks for something they did as a kid. I had my first drug bust expunged and I was an adult. He just wasn't timely about it, it seems.

RobertL 01-20-2015 08:52 PM

there is no record expungement in your state?

Idiots this isn't about a guy shouting racial slurs at kids when he was a teen. He violently attacked and robbed people, severely disabling one person and causing permanent damage.

These two hate crimes, one "minor" and the other MAJOR (he was lucky to only get 45 days in jail) are simply the things he got caught doing. What about all of the other crimes he most likely did and never got caught for? Most criminals commit dozens of crimes before they get caught, that's why they take the risk.

I will still watch his movies. Personally I think he's a good actor and I like his performances. I also think he has grown, learned, and changed his ways... but that doesn't erase what he has done. Let him go through the proper protocols that anyone else would have to go through. If a "normal" person could get their record expunged under similar circumstances... then let him as well. If not, then don't let him. Simple as that.

above is brassmonkey in a nutshell. Obsessed over race and racism, whining that everyone is racist. In the process he himself posts a racist remark about the asian guy.

If the victim would be black and someone would said the above statement, but with black prejudice:

"he bought the guy a glass eye and a king size KFC bucket :Oh crap "

Brassmonkey would again cry racist.
