Much-much-much less than Finnish ones in Russia: Finno-Ugric peoples - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (4M of yours in Finland and 2M in Russia) ;)

I have looked over border to Russia, so far that has been enough for me.

By the way, Finland's population is 5 million, considering that it is still small population, that 1 million makes difference.

It's open for everyone, but takes a lot of time to travel from the European part of Russia. E.g. I'll much faster get to L.A. (USA) from Moscow than to Vladivostok (Russia). For example, I've been to the whole USA from East Cost to West Cost, but I've never been to Kanchatka... Do your conclusions.

True enough, but not all of Finnish citizens are Finno-Ugric ones (you have to count all the immigrants from other countries).

Why? I believe a Portugal's kidney costs much more in the UK or Germany than in Russia. So you'll be pretty safe here, comparing to the other European countries ;)

Still, it is about 5 million. We don't have that much immigrants; biggest groups are Swedish speaking folks, who are considered as Finnish, and then there are Russians. Previous group is about 320 000 and latter 62 000. Finland's population at 2013 was 5,4 million.

Of course depends about what you mean about immigrants; for example I am genetic mixture of Finnish, Swedish, Russian and Gypsy. I speak Finnish as my mother language. Am I Finno-Ugric?

In the U.S., we have the middle and south as the "places you don't want to go". Generally, if you aren't on a coast (and north of North Carolina if that coast it the eastern one), it pretty much sucks.

I looked up Russia and Asia from space -- North Korea was obviously dark, and Russia's population density definitely looks concentrated around Moscow.

Dom, if you will be here - just let me know and you will see/visit something you won't do anywhere else. Nothing illegal of course (no drugs etc), but you will be amazed - I swear :pimp

Um ........ many Russians are of Finnish origins. The idea that Russians are all descendants of the Rus/Slav people is ridiculous for a country of that size surrounded on its borders in all directions by so many different ethnic groups through history.

I can see this just on a webcam site looking at girls from Russia - some have the classic Russian/Slavic look but then you see many darker more exotic looking faces and then the ones who have Asiatic/Mongolian features.

Speak Turkish because it's a common language for your people. I have no problem with that :) Your grandmothers were raped by Turks/Tatars within hundreds of years till Russian czar has took you under his shelter. I really don't understand why don't you speak Turkish... Merhaba kret!

Wikipedia knows that Russia had its own problems with Mongols and Tatars. I did know this thing even without Wikipedia. Although that day's Russia was partly in the present day Ukraine region; like Kievan Russia.

What are you talking about? Course most of the modern Ukraine is a Russian territory (including Kiev of course). Look at the historical map:

http://img0.liveinternet.ru/images/a...1pYIUAATKf.jpg

I'm not pro-Putin or imperialist, but even I know that almost whole modern Ukraine is a part Russia (yes, there are some annexed territories from Poland, Moldova and Hungary - the ones Ukrainians have to say "thank you" to Stalin for such a gift).

LOL. It is not part of Russia, as it is Ukraine, unless you are referring to Crimea.

Part of it was Russia's. Get over it.

Technically, if i recall, white Russians are largely the descendants of vikings... which is also where the country's name comes from :)

This study confirms that, showing that Northern Russians (but not Southern Russians) significantly intermarried with Finno-Ugric peoples, while Southern Russians (but not Northern Russians) intermarried with Germanic peoples. Russians were also found to be genetically tied to other Slavs and to Baltic peoples and to a lesser degree to Iranian and Turkic peoples.

Lots of Finnish contribution in the genes of Northern Russians.

from wikipedia:

Controversy persists over whether the Rus? were Varangians (Vikings) or Slavs. This uncertainty is due largely to a paucity of contemporary sources. Attempts to address this question instead rely on archaeological evidence, the accounts of foreign observers, legends and literature from centuries later. To some extent the controversy is related to the foundation myths of modern states in the region. According to the "Normanist" view, the Rus' were Scandinavians, while Russian and Ukrainian nationalist historians generally argue that the Rus' were themselves Slavs.

WAS is the key word.. Alaska was owned by Russia before the US bought it. Russia let go of parts of it's land for various reasons.. It's not yours anymore.. You have no right to try and steal land from Ukraine it's not yours.. no matter what it was in the past.

good luck with that. what im trying to imply is no revolution will help you unless you change your mentality and start to work !

the other thing: calling people on the east of your country as "terrorists" its just ridiculous. and what is going there should be judged later by international court..and im telling here about both sides of the conflict...while probably Kiev side is doing worse things there.

but to be honest - i think that the smartest and most determined persons should leave your country if they have no possibilities to grow and live there. i see nothing bad in it.
and probably that was and is and will be the only way to have life with dignity for most of the people in your country. unless you are gangster/ politician..sad thing

1. It takes time. It happened to all of the ex Soviet countries.

2. East side situation is war, they are being supported by Russia.

3. Apparently, there are patriots in Ukraine.

I must say when Poland was in trouble in 80s there was a war state, people, who didn't want to participate, gained a refuge status or simply moved out of Poland that actually never had any real border with the West. Ukrainians are locked in, there are not so many countries they could go and settle without significant money and paperwork.

hadden 02-05-2015 09:51 AM

klinton 02-05-2015 09:59 AM

then it were just 1000's, most determined.now- there are milions.
war state was only for 2 years and it was actually nothing. much better than what ppl from Eastern Ukraine have now since year

if you are truly determined and smart you can go whereever you want. thats the natural selection
