I watched it and wasn't as bothered by what I saw as I was by the idea that his loved ones need to live with the graphic reality that he died so horribly. Dying by fire is something I can imagine, as horrible as it may be. living with the pain caused by the loss of a loved one like that? unfathomable

but yeah, ish like this is the worst of us. not 'them', all of us. Setting a captive on fire, dropping state-sanctioned bombs and executing prisoners in response; it's all horrific, and each act ultimately causes the same pain to those who have to live with it.

ultimately we are a miserable species. it's crazy to me though, that we're also capable of such generosity, kindness, warmth. ish like this makes it hard for me to rationalize my life as I experience it vis a vis what I read in the papers, and it makes me realize how lucky and privileged I am, in every way

my whole point was the as a species we're capable of both the evil and the sublime. I was arguing that the experience of either is completely up to chance and circumstance; that as a species we're capable of rising to great heights and plummeting to deep depths.

people do suck because as a species. we've not just turned death and war into a sport, we build entire economies around it. what else do you call that?

conversely, we're a species capable of all the positive, beautiful traits I posted above. As I also wrote, that's been my lived experienced in being human, so I'm not quite sure what rebuttal you're trying to make

I think it is the duty of all sensible citizens to watch this video in honour of the brave man who died at the hands of cowards who are wearing masks to hide their faces. We need to make a decision soon, and be done with the scourge that is religion. If they do not give up the extremists in their midst then it is time to call a spade a spade and start to clean out their ranks for them.

I for one am tired of the mid east conflict. I am tired of worrying about offending muslims. I am tired of hearing about muslims living in Canada enjoying life there and then finding out they are supporting terrorists groups back home or within Canada.

This pilot was very brave to stand in the face of death, I respect him, I do not gain pleasure in watching his death nor should others. However, to not watch it because it makes you uncomfortable while surely that is your choice, it does not let you question another persons sanity. I feel for the pilots mother and family.

It is high time to do away with Muslims, Christians and all other religions. Their time and usefulness has passed.
