Those cops didn't see a black man, they didn't see a mentally disturbed man, they saw a human being that was a threat, both to themselves and others.

mentally ill people are prone to resist arrest. what do to in this kind of situation? just mark it up to an unavoidable casualty? or try to look for ways to curb these incidents?

He didn't get shot for having mental issues.

He got shot for causing a problem that required police intervention, confronting police, refusing police orders, refusing to submit to police officers, being tased, and STILL going after a police officer's firearm.

I understand this guy had mental issues. However, that doesn't make it acceptable for him to do whatever he wants. These police officers just prevented a mentally ill with a long history of violent confrontations from arming himself and shooting at police officers and the general public.

This is the kind of comment that drives me nuts. NATURALLY a million different decisions could have been made by everyone at any point in the space / time continuum leading up to this event which was captured on video. This is usually where people pretend it was the parents fault, or the aunt, or some idiot who gives a royal fuck who. If we're just wildly speculating about what could have happened then why don't we just pretend he could have sprouted his wings and his horn and flown away with a virgin over the rainbow? So why didn't he do that?

The video shows what it shows and we comment on what we've seen. Those are the rules. The cop in the video at the end says all he needed to say to make it a justifiable killing. 1. He was suspect. 2. He reached for a gun. Period. That is not a high enough standard in my personal view and I shared it. I stand by it 100%, even though I COULD have baked a cake instead and avoided the whole thing.

My family is in the nursing home business. Luckily we dont train our nurses to kill every time a resident spits, hits, kicks or strikes with a cane, etc. We'd be filling hearses by the dump load daily.

There were 2 cops indicted recently for beating the crap out of a guy that had his hands up. They were also yelling "stop reaching for my gun". Once the tape became available you could see he was not reaching for any gun and all charges against him were dropped.

Obviously I dont know what happened in this case but i cant help but think some of these cops were south park fans. "It's coming right for us!"

With some of the shitters and spitters we have they'd probably do a better job. A large amount of our patients are diverted from the mental hospital since they never have room to house them all and we are a much cheaper cost per day.
