US authorities are not going to care about some guy in Romania getting scammed out of $1,500 for an adult project.

$15,000,000 might get their attention.

I'm sure that's not the first time things like this happen so maybe you guys can tell me how should I proceed. So:

- following my thread about a marketing guy needed i got contacted by several people
- one of them is an old member of this forum and e showed extensive knowledge on the subject
- he made me an interesting offer, i checked his name and company and found nothing wrong so, based on the invoice he sent me, I paid him some money (half of the first month fee for development and marketing)
- after two weeks it seems he is not going to execute the services or to return the money (he didn't event sent me the detailed plan to agree on)

How should I proceed in order to get my money back? Besides writing his name public and preventing others from being scammed also, is there any legal action I might take? It looks like fraud to me...

people get screwed all the time man - I believe we chatted on skype about this position - should have picked me !

I realize my dealings here are probably small fries compared to some but is it normal for $1500.00 to be paid up front for work? I mean my web designer only requires a 50% deposit. My SEO company I tried out several smaller projects before hiring them full time. Perhaps I am naive as to what kind of projects are arranged here. I can't think of a single thing I would need done I would send some one 1500 bucks upfront I have never done business with before. Especially not on paypal which may or may not properly protect me as the purchaser. Not that 1500 bucks is actually much money in the grand scheme of things I just hate the idea of anyone getting my money undeserved. Hell I am paranoid over purchases that are just a couple hundred bucks, lol.

The scam was a professional one as credit card company told me today, the account where money were received is on another name, probably fake: Eric Frye

So I have to accept I was scammed and I'm not as smart as I thought ...

His name Brandon Kagey, he's company is ScriptWorkz Ltd, now inactive it seems (Brandon Kagey - Previous Managing Member for Scriptworkz, LLC), his e-mail is [email protected] and the GFY user is also ScriptWorkz.

I opened the dispute today, but I feed worse about getting fooled than about 1500$. You think I should also report him to US authorities for fraud? Just to make sure he won't do this with others in the future?

Did business with the guy last year. He was local and I was going to give the deposit in person. He did the job fairly quickly so I was able to pay for the entire job ($1,000) at the end. About 5% of the work was not finished but by that point I was able to do a better job and finish it myself.

By miracle this thread came up. I am going to a meeting today to spec out the next job I was going to to throw at him for make me an Ap next week. Wow I dodged a bullet.

Wow. I've had this guy do a couple of small jobs for me as well. Always delivered what I wanted without any issues. Too bad he's started scamming now. I was ready to give him more work...

I don't charge clients upfront money unless it's going to take a long time to complete the project.

Then again, I don't take on projects without doing a formal contract, checking out the client thoroughly (I need real names, not screen nicks), talking to the client on the phone about the scope and particulars of the project, and doing other basic business due-diligence. I never rely on the "good will gentlemen's handshake" method of doing business deals.

Good news everybody, I got my money back. After Paypal rejected my claim because is services I went to my bank and, according to VISA rules, they demanded proof of services. Scumbag replied pretending he executed nut with no proof, so the bank returned my money.

So, always pay by VISA and you're covered against fraud is my new rule :)

Good for you. It really sucks that he gets to keep what he scammed though. The credit card company ate this one. He withdrew that money as soon as it hit his account and it's gone. He probably spent more time finding excuses than it would have taken to actually do the job in the first place. Fucking amazing.

Glad you got your money back but, I suspect Paypal is not gonna be real happy with you now.
