You couldn't have said it better. All my life I have been in decent shape, got out of shape around 22 as I stopped playing soccer as much but kept up my unhealthy eating habits. Skip ahead to 27 and I was somehow 237lbs. I didn't look huge but I was overweight. I lost 52lbs and got back to the shape I was when I was 20. I feel so much better when I'm working out and in decent shape than I ever did when I was overweight and eating cupcakes at night :2 cents:

Plus eating all that shit food - full of fats / carbs / deep fried / sugars / blah blah blah makes you feel lethargic / absolute shit.

No I agree, I was just having fun because some ppl can take healthy "living" too far. I believe in moderation. If I have a brownie for dessert then you damn well know I had a healthy egg white breakfast, healthy salad for lunch, another salad for dinner and lean protein. THEN the brownie. LOL And not every day, either.

The sad thing? Some people actually enjoy kale as much as I enjoy brownies. LOL

True, but there's nothing better than a late night cupcake to sooth your soul. Especially after a long night of Univision Telenovellas marathon.

Ay yi yi papi!!

There is nothing unhealthy about this diet so you lost me mentioning long term health..

Vegetarian, Paleo, Keto.... whatever the diet people tell you how great they feel... if you don't it's because you're not doing it right or initial detox flu like symptoms... I've come to the conclusion that they get a feel good factor from thinking they are doing the right thing, and get so engrossed in all the literature and website preaching in favor of that diet they get stuck in a positive reinforcement loop.

I wake up drink water and go for a swim, go to the gym later when the sun comes down. If I want to get into single digit bf sure Keto is good over longer ketones don't give me the fuel I need.

Thanks for the patronizing "if you don't know how to cook.." but I've eaten healthy all my life, hate cakes and sweet food in general.

Edit: I also never said keto was unhealthy I said you have to strike a balance between healthy and enjoyment.

Absolute agree! :thumbsup After and during a workout whether it is a run / weights / whatever, you just feel fanbaloodtastic!

Congrats on the weightloss, I lost similar amount too and didn't look like a fat bastard, was around 280lb (127kg) now 220 and never felt better.

No one enjoys kale except maybe L-Pink. Agreed re taking things too far, however eating healthy doesn't have to mean not enjoying your food or having it taste great!

I love these threads! How many of you guys have reached your weight loss/gain goal and maintained your weight consistently. That's the hard part!

I've maintained my weight at a lean 185 lbs for a long time.

Always falling back on eating balanced.. protein, a portion of carbs and vegetables.

Intermittent Fasting is also good, technically more of an eating pattern than a diet though.

A bodybuilder like you would probably tell me to push on and make some gains but I feel best at this weight, or maybe I'm just lazy at the gym :winkwink:

The Porn Nerd 03-23-2015 03:11 PM

I fluctuate based on the seasons. Here in the northeast we get some brutal winters so my weight goes up ten pounds, then down ten during spring/summer. Being a Webmaster doesn't help either with all those long hours at the keyboard. So ANY healthy living or exercise is a great thing.

I've done keto on and off for about 3 years now, been on about 95% for the past year. While I have cheat meals on occasion, I really try to keep it on occasion. I try to keep it down under 40g of carbs because anything over makes me feel like absolute garbage. As in water retaining, joint aching garbage. People were trying to make me feel bad this past weekend for not eating some cake at a wedding this past weekend (hubby said it was very underwhelming tasting). How can I feel bad by not feeling bad? Let others eat cake, I'll take that cheese platter everyone is avoiding due to "too high fat". :winkwink:

Btw, if you're feeling like crap, up your salt intake, magnesium and potassium. I found out that you can completely avoid keto flu/feeling bad during the month adaption period by maintaining those electrolytes. /r/keto is the best subreddit ever. :2 cents:

I have a glass of salt water every day and it helps.

pornguy 03-23-2015 03:51 PM

Also ditch the fruits and salads for a while. Especially the fruits. its 100% sugar and thats bad. ONce you start to hit and maintain the target area of weight and fitness then you start to add back in the carbs fruits etc.

bronco67 03-23-2015 03:53 PM

I'm not so sure about the needing carbs for energy thing. I go to the gym on an empty stomach at around 12 noon, and do heavy bench press and deadlift -- and hit my personal best sometimes. This is without food in my stomach for 18 hours.

I've been doing this for a year, even before starting the ketosis thing -- which I have done here and there for the last few months, but only now am I getting serious about it.

for losing fat or?

This chick is kind of annoying, but she has a ton of videos on becoming keto adapted. She's 47 and been in Ketosis for 3 years, and talks about having off the charts energy and obviously --- very low bodyfat for a girl.

Like I said earlier. It's the way our bodies are supposed to work.

When I started getting in shape 2 years ago, I weighed 197.

Right now, I weight 196 -- but my gut is gone, so I'd call that progress. The muscle added is what I attribute the weight to.

i've maintained the same dimensions for ~7 years now, since i lost weight initially. but not all the muscle lasted. i decided i wanted to go with a maintenance program. i do body weight resistance training (primarily pushups and burpees) to stay strong and i'm paddling out surfing ~4x a week along with leisurely cruising the bikes A LOT, including a couple days a week i'll do 2 5 minute HIIT sessions a day cycling.

That activity deals mostly with my blood sugars and eats that shit up so i don't have to fire as much insulin and the icing on the cake is i get to eat carbs to support the lifestyle! and not to mention eat bacon and drink booze, very much in moderation.

and sleep good too! :1orglaugh

you know!

mineistaken 03-23-2015 04:07 PM

How can people not eat carbs? This is the stuff where you take energy from. Do not eat them before going to bed (supper etc), but not during breakfast...
And what more - your diet should be ballanced, carbs, proteins, fat etc. Why people decide to cut something out is beyond me (except for weight losing agenda).

i don't disagree that our bodies are supposed to work. But i think it's also true that IF is also a way how our bodies are supposed to work. both are valid historically right? at some points we don't have food at all, at other points we don't have carbs.

I think they are both profoundly good choices to make, i just found that IF is much much more natural for me. i grew up not eating breakfast! :1orglaugh

The hard part to figure out and sort out was proper proportions and balance. that took quite a while of counting calories and very closely taking inventory of what i eat. there's an app for that! :1orglaugh

I sat around 102-105 for a good 18months - 2 years, at the end of last year, I upped my training (have an event to train for) and dropped to 95kg and felt like shit, so changed diet through the help of a mate and am at 100kg for the last month or so and feel great now.

incredibleworkethic 03-23-2015 06:22 PM

I consider macro ratios (carbs, fat protein) while adjusting calories as per my goals and activity level. When I'm gaining weight I eat 3500 cals a day, 40p/40c/20f, when I'm on a cut, 1800-2000, 50p/25c/25f.

Bad food always makes me feel like shit. So I avoid it mostly with the exception of family functions.

Framar 03-23-2015 06:44 PM

carbs are the best source of energy

scubadiver626 03-23-2015 06:54 PM

Fat and carbs are not the enemy, too many calories are.

PaperstreetWinston 03-23-2015 07:36 PM

anything with a bit of rice

AmeliaG 03-23-2015 09:54 PM

Different people's bodies do best on different diets. We are not all the same.

At the moment, my first meal of the day is a little protein (usually wild-caught fish) and a variety of cooked green veggies -- broccoli, green beans, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, etc.

I mix up what I eat regularly.

I've just started eating lowcarb again for the 575th time. It's a great way to lose weight, my mood and well-being is better and I have higher levels of energy but the food is pretty boring.
Don't get me wrong, you can make delicious lowcarb food but I miss pizza, beer and all those things.

People that say "carbs are the needed and the best source of energy" must be athletes that need that fast energy rush that sugars give. When in ketosis I have much smoother energy-levels throughout the day than while eating carbs.

That's actually true. Ketosis is great for long distance athletes, like bikers and marathon runners. Carbs are great for quick burst athletics, like sprinting.
