Electricity costs money. Evidently taxpayers in California will foot the bill though.

Very true. You are right. I'm sorry and I apology. I will not insult republican voters any more, I promise. I hope I haven't insulted you and if I did, I apologize for that too.

I don't *think* its political bias. I *think* its common sense, or science, or whatever relates to the subject at the time. But ok for now at least, I will take your word for it.

All that I ask though is that the next time a political or republican issue comes up, let's talk about it together in a thread, and if we disagree, try to convince the other they are wrong, in a FUN and informative manner. No reason to fight just because we disagree on politics.

I'm definitely not weak in anything that I say or do, I just disagree with a lot of political ideas expressed on GFY.

And also as I said in the previous paragraph, I don't think that I'm biased, However, since you are making the argument that I am biased, well, then, ok - I will consider the idea.

However, I want to make a suggestion:

If you and I get into a discussion where we have opposing opinions, don't dismiss me as a "liberated" the way Dynamo does. It is just too easy and it doesn't make arguing worth the time. Instead, say "Mark, what you said is wrong because something something something + [LINK] if possible. This way the conversation is much more interesting, and I learn something new at the same time.

Fair enough?

I disagree. I am a tree hugging liberal green-loving hippie weirdo 420 fan freak that would vote democratic in a US election because I haven't seen nothing on the GOP side that would get me to change my mind. I'm not saying I wouldn't ever. I'm saying I haven't yet.

I'm not trying to insult individual voters, I'm trying to point out my perceived rediculousness of the current political situation. Again if I insulted you, I sincerely apologize.

Actually I am not at all afraid of insults. It's better when the insults mean something. Yours for example, are accurate and important, at least to me, which is why I am taking the time to read what you are saying and respond carefully.

Peace?

It happens. I live in a house now but when I bought my EV I was in a duplex. I had to pay to put in a 220v line and pay for it myself, and I had to pay him for the electricity. I felt a little nickle-and-dimed, but thats ok. A friend who lived only a few blocks away was not allowed to charge his car at his home either, but wasn't given a reason. His boss on the other hand loved the idea and went out of his way to make sure he could charge anytime he wanted. I think its just a personal choice.

L-Pink 05-11-2015 02:34 PM

I really don't give a fuck what happens to anyone involved in these cop stories. Cop or idiot.

I have successfully gone thru life avoiding messy police confrontations. I can't help myself and comment whenever I see someone so situationally unaware that they fuck themselves.

No not the tax payers, the apartment owner would have to pay for the electricity.

Then again, electricity can be metered too but I assume the owner wouldn't want to pay to have one installed.

What they could have done is have the driver pay the owner for the electricity used to charge the car. Charging times are available via stats on the in-car display or online (GM, Tesla, etc), but its such a low amount that the honour system would have worked too. Thats the way I used to charge mine anyway.

Same here. I've been stopped for driving infractions a few times, but its always "Yes officer, no officer, whatever officer, thank you officer". Never fuck around.

The way I see it is this: They are probably already nervous every time they have to stop someone. They don't know if the guy might pull out a gun. So when I've been stopped, I completely relax, keep my hand on the wheel, tell the truth, etc. When asked for my license & registration, I let them know its in my wallet and in my pocket, then reach for it afterwards, etc. The more you can help a copy relax and let them know you're not an idiot, the better they feel and the nicer they are to you.

TheSquealer 05-11-2015 02:50 PM

Mark, i appreciate your response. I truly do. I appreciate the honesty and offer of peace. I don't have a problem with you really... i was just posting about the behavior.

We all see things differently... and that's fine. We are supposed to. It is how we are wired. But when take to posting constant derisive and insulting remarks about a group of people that represents 1/2 of the nation,... one that you aren't even a citizen of, you should expect and understand that you are offending those in that group and often turning off those who are more in the middle as well. And when you do it in conjunction with a constant undertone of arrogant superiority (they are dumb and crazy and we're not), then you have to expect people to push back. And you have to expect that people are going to start being equally disrespectful towards you.

It's fine to be biased in ones thinking. We all are. I know I am. I know I see things from a Conservative perspective. I've even taken great pains to read extensively and understand why and how we see things differently as someone that appreciates how the brain works, psychology and so on. To me, its an important part of how a society functions and those bias' are necessary from a standpoint of evolutionary biology. This is complicated to explain, but the punchline is that the best decisions for the groups survival arise from heated debate about anything that matters to the group, not widespread agreement.

Above all things, it used to bother me as a reasonably intelligent person to see that someone is seeing something that I just don't or that I am seeing something that they clearly don't (as happens in conservative/liberal debates) and always felt that an intelligent person should strive to get to the bottom of that and at least make an effort to understand why that is and to be respectful of the other side. After all, our brain employs not only the general bias of liberal/conservative (this is actually rooted in moral decision making and the different weights or values we assign to moral issues), but also a massive number of other cognitive bias'. It's normal to an extent to seek out information that supports a view and instantly dismiss information that challenges it (confirmation bias), its normal to reflexively support an in-group and attack an out-group (basic tribal behaviors) and normal to do 1000 other things that reinforce our bias.

It's fine to be biased. We all are. It's pure insanity to deny that as you have which is really also a way to add a little more venum to your constant attacks. And being biased doesn't mean you have to be obnoxiously disrespectful towards those who do not see things as you do and I keep expecting that you as someone who appreciates science would act in a more mature manner and be more appreciative of views that challenge your own and use every interaction as a learning experience, and not be the one acting out day in and day out, completely mystified and embittered that people think and perceive things differently.

It's all good. I'll be nice for as long as you are.

I ride my motorcycle 90% of the time. I have long hair, dress kind of ratty, have straight pipes that are to loud for most states, ride mostly in southern states.

Being pulled over an average of 1-3 times a year for 30 years is a lot more face to face cop time than most will ever enjoy. Being non threatening and courteous has limited the negatives to a few traffic tickets and equipment fines. Any one of those times I could have been a dick and escalated the situation. But why? To prove a point or be a bad-ass?

Fuck that, kiss ass say yess Sir and down the road laugh about the coke/pot he didn't look for or the breath test that wasn't taken. Anyone who provokes a cop gets what they deserve.

Around here that attitude makes me a cop lover, lol lol lol Go figure huh.

It's such a weird thing to me. Based on what? I mean if we were talking about Roman elite in the early Roman Empire... yeah, maybe they were arrogant dicks as they were generally conquering the world which was largely primitive in comparison etc. But where does the arrogance and attitude come from when you're just some random dude in Quebec? I mean i get that its cultural, but its based on absolutely nothing at all and seemingly passed on from France... it's just bizarre to me. I suppose as well that people who tend to not think like that, tend to move away, continually skewing the numbers.

I've never figured out the source of the snobbish arrogance on the part of French-Canadians either. I've met a few very nice francophones from Qweebec over the years, but the vast majority I've dealt with were just plain rude and arrogant with a misplaced sense of entitlement.

I'm sure it goes back to historical times and just passed along through the generations. They seemingly over-compensate for a persecution complex they've adopted.

Trying to make sense of the reasons they act the way they do will just drive you crazy, because at the end of the day it's simply not justifiable in any logical terms.

I live in a small city that is roughly divided in half - with English predominantly in the west end and the francophones in the east. It's one of few communities in the province where the percentage of Franco-Ontarians exceeds the overall provincial average. My understanding is the francophone presence dates back to the early 1900s when many French-Canadians migrated to the area to work in the cotton textile mills.

All of which to say...I get more exposure to French-Canadians than I care to. :(

Very true. I added the word black to the headline. But the person was black. I think he was profiled by the cops because he was black. There's lots of cop-on-black in the news lately. GFY is full of threads. I honestly thought I'd get bitchslapped because he was an EV driver, not because I pointed out in the title that he was black, but ok - color me surprised.

It's not fair to generalize and say that all french hate, or all Americans hate, etc. I'm English and live in a primarily french province. Sometimes, very rarely, I'll meet a rude waiter or other service person somewhere who will refuse to speak to me in English or at least put up with my broken french. It is a general conception though that English tourists visiting Quebec leave with a bad taste in their mouth because of rude service.

Generally though, Canadians like Americans and vice-versa.

Honest question: Could it just me the accent or mannerisms? I mean could you be seeing arrogance where there was none? Sometimes the Quebec accent can be very strong. Again, honest question..

and get real, **********, the only reason you genuflected towards thesquealer in this thread is because you don't want to be on the receiving end of one of his verbal disembowlments you would watch yourself receive in real time, which was happening. so you sucked his dick.

gofuckyourself.

and hats off to thesquealer for accepting your apology. it shows he gives people an opportunity to be good and real before he rips them a huge asshole when it turns out they are complete fuckwads, like you **********.

this is exactly why you're a complete fucking fuckwad.

I'm not insulting anyone's views here. I'm not even insulting you. How can I insult the Man that I love? Oh Dynamo! Be mine forever!?

But honey bunch, you don't understand. Everyone else here on GFY can argue, can make their case. You on the other hand are, well, you're just to blinded by love for me. A love that you hate. A love that dare not speak its name. MMMmmm *Kiss*

Not true my little Vichyssoise! I may disagree with some of the things he says, but his post that time was exactly, exactly right. So you see mon petite chaton sauvage, I had to tell him so and admit my error. S'il vous plaît ne soyez pas jaloux ok mon amour? (*bec*)
