Guess this is payback for the Euro's singling out Lance Armstrong.. When every other cyclist was also doping..

apparently the US is involved because the bungs went though American banks

You're being silly.

Deflategate doesn't even come remotely close to what's been happening forwever in FIFA. And people may dislike American Sports, but compared to FIFA they are squeaky clean. Sports in the US are closely scrutinized and I don't think outright corruption would ever be tolerated since there is way too much legitimate money to be lost for a lot of parties involved. The entire world has known FIFA is corrupt for the past 2 decades, at least.

You both missed my point. We had deflategate and it's still big news here.

If the NFL here in the US was hit with a corruption case our response would be about the same. So yes, we can relate.

But as U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch lays it out, the suspects planned their crimes in the U.S.; they used the U.S. banking system; they planned to profit through schemes that targeted the "growing U.S. market for soccer."

That's the official reason given for why the US got involved.

_Richard_ 05-28-2015 12:07 AM

didn't someone get arrested in Brazil?

Its nice that we can arrest people involved in sporting events and bring them to justice, yet we can't arrest and bankers whom destroyed our economy.

Once they clean house maybe the new regime will finally start writing some new policies and bring in video review which will serve to nail a lot more dive-artists on the field and negate a lot of otherwise horrible calls the ref makes.

Maybe they'll even outlaw vuvuzelas. :D
