And I understand your point perfectly. :) I make changes when suggestions come my way but I ALWAYS A-B test them and often what works for larger sites/companies does not work so well for me. But at least I listen and give things a try. :)

Serious: I have a tube idea that would make serious impact. Thinking of doing it on my own but would have to wait until I get my paysite businesses under control as a working tube is a full-time gig (and I would need employees to assist). BUT it's a killer idea so if interested I could email you my thoughts. :)

Is this guy new around here?

I would definitlye read it, as others have mentioned updates would be the key, so perhaps guest bloggers would need to be enlisted. This would be HUGELY time consuming for you, not sure if you have ever blogged, it takes up huge amounts of time and can get boring real quick.

That said, great way to get ideas flowing to you, hope something comes of it!

Rather than look at say 1 site, maybe explain how and why people should be building for mobile first... And other site design issue people have and solutions for those problems.

Telling people 15 things you would change to freeones, maybe great for freeones but will someone be able to apply any of that to their own websites. If not then the information may have limited value to the majority.

Try the latest vbulletin. The new features are pretty cool and the @ feature works really well to notify someone they have been mentioned.

To start I'll probably use wp for simplicity and speed of launching. I'll probably get a simple install and design to launch and if anyone wants to pitch in design or mods I'd be more than happy to add them in.

I think you can go with a simple wordpress, which would integrate with all the social media, making it easy to manage cross platform publishing and following/sharing.

I'd recommend using self-hosted Wordpress i.e. install Wordpress on your own domain. Wordpress.com is more analogous to Tumblr.com and there are slight benefits to an existing user base there. I doubt that user base is your target audience though. While either one has functionality for using your own domain, Wordpress is infinitely more robust for commenting than Tumblr. You can customize plug-ins for special functionality if you host Wordpress yourself. So definitely either your own Wordpress install or Wordpress.com.

what are the most important items to have/implement if wanting to increase member values?
this question is asked from the perspective of a mid size pay site that has most items in line i.e. good unique video content, stable hosting and downloads , quality tours , decent ratios, tube channels etc..all the basic things for a stable pay site in 2015.

but with all that still can't seem to get to a point where media buys or higher pps works out.

we have been doing ok but want to scale and the next ways i see are with media buys and higher pps. of course we don't want to go the route of card banging or other aggressive billing.

and do you have any other suggestions for a mid size pay site to grow its brand these days.

Just dive right in and do Youtube posts and/or google hangouts. You're very personable and knowledgeable so it'll work for you. Doesn't even have to be live.
