The LAPD was once known as ?the world?s greatest police department,? due largely to its stringent character screening. Back in the era of Sergeant Joe Friday, LAPD candidates were checked out as thoroughly as homicide suspects. Even a casual relationship with any known criminal excluded a candidate from being considered as a police officer. All that is now history. In a bid to appease racial activists and meet federal decrees, strict screening and testing measures were dismantled. New black and Hispanic officer candidates were hustled into the ranks at any cost. What former deputy chief Steve Downing called ?a quagmire of quota systems? was set up, and ?standards were lowered and merit took a back seat to the new political imperatives.? It was back in 1981 that the LAPD first entered into a federal consent decree that instituted quotas for female and minority hiring. To meet these demands, the standards for physical capability, intellectual capacity, and personal character were lowered. The result was that many incapable or mediocre recruits?even significant numbers with criminal links or gang associations?were accepted into the department. https://www.aei.org/publication/how-...he-lapd/print/ |

Retired cop uses Twitter to accuse Baltimore police of brutality and corruption Former Sgt. Michael Wood spent a decade with the Baltimore Police Department. A retired Baltimore cop is blowing the whistle on police brutality and misconduct he allegedly witnessed during his decade on the force. Former Sgt. Michael A. Wood Jr. listed his disturbing allegations in a Twitter firestorm Wednesday but stopped short of naming names or providing dates and locations. "So here we go," the ex-detective and U.S. Marine, 35, wrote to his thousands of followers. "I'm going to start Tweeting the things I've seen & participated in, in policing that is corrupt, intentional or not." The claims read like a blotter. "A detective slapping a completely innocent female in the face for bumping into him, coming out of a corner chicken store," he said in his first example. "Punting a handcuffed, face down, suspect in the face, after a foot chase. My handcuffs, not my boot or suspect," the officer who served from 2003 until an injury forced his retirement January 2014 said in his second. A third tweet claimed fellow officers would turn video cameras away from any action as soon as a suspect was close to being caught. "Pissing and sh---ing inside suspects homes during raids, on their beds and clothes," he claimed in one tweet that quickly racked up more than 880 re-tweets. Wood claimed he also had knowledge of officers lying in court and "jacking up and illegally searching thousands of people with no legal justification." He said he didn't remember "any particular person" who was searched illegally because it happened every day. "I'm one person relying on a flawed memory system. This is an indictment on the culture of the profession, not a witch-hunt. Sorry," he tweeted. |

Supreme Court weighs S.F. police shooting of mentally ill woman - SFGate
Quote:
It's our courts that allow the cops to kill with little restriction. I guess if you are a potential or imaginary threat you can be shot and killed by the police legally. The sensible thing to do was to say "drop the towel and show me your hand" to determine if there was a real threat -- he shot first apparently. No, I didn't read the article usually these first accounts are not entirely accurate. But that would decide if the cop walks or gets the firing squad if I was the Judge. Real knowledge of a life threatening situation before you kill. |

Uhhh....hate to be the one to break it to you but Dragnet was not a reality TV show and Joe Friday was a fictitious character. |
Cops are different all over the country, some parts just suck and no one goes there except the unlucky ones stuck there. Then they become cops just to have jobs and either don't know what they're doing or mad at the world that they didn't go any farther in life like everyone else they know and that rage builds inside them until power trips happen..
Cops around here the other day, no lie: "Hey, you know that I could have knocked down your door since I was watching you put away your weed and bongs with my flashlight, right?" "Sorry" "That's ok" :upsidedow |
The guy was clearly out at the point the video was shot. Why the fuck were they putting handcuffs on him?

My opinion is that the govt. has given cops too much power.
It started with the Supreme Court making rulings on their ability to search people. When I was a young guy...the cops couldn't search your car. They couldn't search your wife's purse, etc. Now? They can do any damn thing they want. All in the name of the "War On Drugs" (which has been more of a "War On The American People"). Now you add in the boogieman of "terrorism" and it's taken shit to a new level. I think the first thing would be to give people back some of their rights and take away some of the absolute power that cops have been given. Then second...police dept's around the country have got to change their police of "shoot to kill" for EVERY circumstance that a police officer draws his weapon. That's just ridiculous. And third...if a cop kills someone, even in the line of duty. They should be held accountable the same as a regular citizen. If they are innocent, it will be proven. Just like citizens. |

I have contacted the police to report the issue and they assured me they would be taking action soon. For some reason they wanted my name and address. BRB someone's at the door...

Forgot about attending to the guy they nearly killed (odds are he won't make it) and now what about the two kids left behind because of these assholes? Eye for an eye, just shoot these two cops. |
You stole brassmonkeys limelight with a cop and death story... Then again he wouldn't post this one anyway since the victim isn't black.
