A center of Moscow is bigger than some small EU countries :) 15% of whole Russian population live here. BTW, I live not in the center, but my place looks even better. Here is a Moscow river and two outstanding parks with clean air, amazing castles etc. This and this (click the links). Yes man, this is also Moscow and I love it :)

As I told somewhere else, there is almost no villages in Russia. Those that remain are almost dead. Mostly old people and alcoholics live there. So in contrast to the USA, most of Russians live in big cities like Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Kazan etc. If you want to know how they look like, use Google images :)

The most of territory is just unpopulated (you can walk for 1000's of kilometers and never meet a single person):

New York City: 8,5 million Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City

I know you will post some BS in response, but the most funny thing is that when you wrote that you intentions was to boast how BIG CITY is Moscow and how much SMALL TIME is NY in comparison :1orglaugh
You are transparent like that, always inflating, twisting things.

You are one of those guys we all know, the guy from big city who looks down on smaller town guys with the intention that he himself is better just because he si from big city. He always would boast about his big city and look down on smaller cities.

Of course you even manage to bring it to the next level, for example when you pretend to be surprised that there are places where you could not buy icecream 24/7 :1orglaugh :

depends on the mood im in.

bronco67 07-16-2015 10:27 AM

I can take the city or the sticks in short durations. I like it in between.

I don't want to hear police sirens every 30 seconds, but I also don't want to drive 50 miles to get a gallon of milk.

Choopa Phil 07-16-2015 10:39 AM

Right now im live about 45 minutes out of NYC. Same as bronco...I dont live the city and I dont love the country. I like some population with not as much congestion

From your wikipedia links:

Moscow: 2,511 km2
New York City: 1,214 km2

So Moscow is more than 4x times larger than NYC. Isn't that correct? If you don't think so, your math education sucks a long time, son :winkwink:

I'm not pretend, because I have a supermarket at the 1st floor of my apartment house. The only thing you can't buy there after 11pm is alcohol. Everything else, including the ice-cream of course is available 24/7.

P.S. The population of Moscow is about 15 millions (non-residents are also counted because they are live here) :)

Ive lived in a metropolis 23 years and a smaller town for 13. Smaller town is the best for me, but i'd live in a big city rather than the countryside.

Seriously, it really sucks if you can't buy ice cream 24/7. I mean, there should be at least gas station or mcdrive if there is no ice cream store.

Our house is opposite a river, we get few cars in the street. I can walk the dog, by the river, then over the fields and not see anyone. Unless I go with the other dog walkers.

Living in a shed, in a field of cabbages, has it's upside. LOL

Uhm NYC is on extremely small island so is densely populated. I'm sure there are plenty of cities will much more never ending urban sprawl

Like Los Angeles is 10,000 sq km

Some may consider where I live as the city, but I would classify it as a suburb. I'd like to die here.

I live in the same city, pretty much in the center and can't ever complain

other pluses:
- you can sell or buy anything pretty fast since there's enough people to buy or sell pretty much anything
- you can dine or hang out in so many places just in a walking distance
- you don't have to solve any sort of transport most of the time since you can just walk around
- you get to meet interesting and various people of all sorts
- no matter what time it is you can still get pretty much all you need
- good life all around

yes I could never live in a country, I did so for a couple of months and then one day I emigrated all of a sudden back to the city because it was absolutely unbearable

Very impressive. Is this the main shower/toilet for Moscow? One-fifth of Russian city apartments have no hot water, one-tenth no plumbing or heating ? RT News :winkwink:

just a punk 07-17-2015 12:59 AM

I see it's RT, but sounds like a bullshit. You will die in -30C w/o hot water and central heating system. According to that news 1/5 of Russians have died of cold during the latest winter :upsidedow Otherwise they are using natural gas heaters to make hot water.

As about the image above. It's a half-frozen river in the park. What's wrong with it?

P.S. The US trailer trash lives in trailers (I doubt they have central heating systems in there :)), Russian trash lives in those old and ugly "apartments". Here you have to work to afford something better. The USSR has gone and you can't get an apartments/home from the evil Soviet government just for free as it as before 1991. Now you have to buy it.

Tomorrow we are going to the Apricot Fest. An open air market where all the locals come to sell their crops of Apricots.

A few weeks ago, we had the Ladies Fest. Lots of girls dancing in traditional costumes.

Yep, 12,310 km2 is a rather huge area. On the other hand, the Moscow metropolitan area is 45,900 km2 which is 9x times larger than LA County :)

Who gives a fuck about the amount of land when talking about a metropolitan area? Anyone could rezone a city to appear massive that way. It's the population density that actually matters. Also, let's say that the area does matter, Oblast (region) and county are completely different.

It's about 20 millions of citizens. Officially. Unofficially much more because there are many uncounted immigrants mostly from Asia, Caucasus, Ukraine, Belorussia, Moldova etc. As I said already, Moscow is #1 city in the world by the amount of immigrants.

Because no one wants to live elsewhere in Russia? Just a guess

We had a small 10 acre place for a while and it was a 30 min drive to the city for shopping, Mall and movies and such. was perfect.

Because Russia is a very large and rather cold place and there is a lack of infrastructure outside the big cities. So our population lives in a very compact way (you can see it on the night light map). 1/3 of the country is located above the Arctic Circle. Also keep in mind that Russia is the biggest country in the world while our population is more than 2x times less than in the States. Australia would be a good example for the comparison. They all live in just a few cities and a whole their continent is almost unpopulated (look at the map again). Almost the same applies to Canada and Alaska.
