Here's an idea that I'm sure will go nowhere fast. They should RAISE the taxes on gasoline cars.

Taxing electric cars is stupid. It impedes progress and punishes the wrong sector of drivers. Gasoline drivers should be taxed as a "penalty" because they contribute to pollution.

Punishing people for using gasoline, MP, that's one of your more elitist views/comments.

Besides, it appears you and crockett do not know how electricity is generated. It's primarily generated by fossil fuels.

They might, but I doubt it. Here in Quebec anyway, the cost to full charge an electric car is about $3.00, vs about $70.00 to fuel a car. The money the government makes from gas far exceeds that of EV's right now.

And as Crockett says, most charge at home. I myself always charge at home now, but still charge when I'm out shopping or whatever if I know the trip home will deplete my battery.

I agree.

Sorry! You dun goofed. There is already an electric truck

and more on the way. Electric has more energy than Diesel, and considering the larger size and extra space for batter placement, EV trucks make a lot of sense.

If goods and produce were shipped around the country in EV trucks it might lower the cost of those items.

Thankfully there are advancements in EV technology pretty often now so maybe soon, those truckers will be riding along on electrons instead of Carbons. 10-4 good electric buddy!

Coal = 39%
Natural gas = 27%
Nuclear = 19%
Hydropower = 6%
Other renewables = 7%
Biomass = 1.7%
Geothermal = 0.4%
Solar = 0.4%
Wind = 4.4%
Petroleum = 1%
Other gases < 1%

Of the 2 fossil fuels we use to generate electric in this country, only one is really harmful. Which is coal.. Coal might be the largest single fuel type, it is still not the majority and it's slowly being phased out..

Here in Colorado for example they use a lot of coal but they were already moving away from coal with out any Federal govt intervention. In fact if Obama's new coal regulation were to be put into effect, Colorado would not have to change their current plans as they were already on plan to be where the proposed regulations want them to be..

Coal just like Gasoline is on the way out.. In fact the only reason we aren't phasing it out fast, is because too many corrupt polititions are in the pockets of the coal industry.

Anyway.. Burning coal to generate electric to power electric cars, is still cleaner than burning coal and burning gas to power cars..

coal is being phased out?
natural gas production does not harm the environment?
what planet are you posting from?

because here on earth in America we are mining coal in record #s and selling the shittiest of it to the Europeans. and natural gas drilling, extracting and transporting creates huge amounts of methane. you do know about methane right?

Best-In-BC 08-13-2015 07:45 PM

The government can create charge stations and earn the rev that way.

Mark I wasn't talking about a pickup truck. I specifically said: "Semi-truck" as in a big diesel semi that pulls big tractor trailers full of stuff. The very lifeblood of the country and the economy.

And no...there aren't any of those gonna happen any time soon that would actually be viable to transport large trailers thousands of miles.

That was my point. So diesel powered 18 wheelers are still gonna be running at full capacity on the nations highways for the foreseeable future.

I think they will subsidize them for the next 20-30 years then call it a luxury tax at some point.

There is nothing elitist about it. The cost that you pay at the pump for gas is more than what you actually pay. (Damage to environment, clean-up, health, etc). A Tax that went towards cleaning it up sounds like a good idea to me.

To answer your ridiculous comment, not all electricity is produced by fossil fuels. Lot of it, and more and more every day, is coming from clean / renewable sources. Or did you already forget about the solar panels you installed on your roof?

I'm not assuming jack fucking shit. You just waxed right past the fucking stats crockofshitt posted proving my statement. And to answer your ridiculous inability to read, I stated PRIMARILY. I also should have added dominated because coal and gas make up the lions share of electric production, like 70%.

i'll do it again whenever the fuck i feel like it.

No you haven't you ignorant retard. It's just not worth arguing with you because you are too delusional and have zero ability to understand fucki g basic common sense..

It's like you trying to argue about the battery post I made wasn't a breakthrough because it might be expensive. You are seriously too ignorant to understand the basic concept, that new tech is almost always rare and expensive at first.

When nicad batteries were first put on the market, they were expensive and only used on high end or very specific items. Now they are common place.

You have to be a fucking fool to not understand this.. Your right wing radio has rotted the remaining brain cells the alcohol didn't already get..

i'll take this as your declining my offer of an opportunity presented to you.

regardless.

because you also are twisting my posts. a "breakthrough" in the laboratory in principle, is a minimum of 10 years away from application and closer to 20+.

that has nothing to do with expense.

it's the time factor to PROVE the chemistry. it's extremely complex testing and time-consuming. the blurb i quoted certainly included the expense but the point of the blurb was the fact that it's at least 10 years away from reality.

i didn't think i had to explain that to you, based on your claiming you know what the fuck you're talking about. because anyone that's following battery technology and such, is fully aware of the time constraints in proving a viable SAFE battery for the masses. this is rocket science.

don't worry, they'll find a way to tax the shit out of everyone as usual. Taxes are something governments are all very creative in, they'll make sure they won't lose a dime once the time has come - in fact, they'll make sure they make even more. Something new is a chance they always grab to let the people pay even more money.

[QUOTE=dyna mo;20550840]there's **********, doing what ********** does best, judging others while looking down his nose doing a internet psych profile based on gfy.

nevertheless, EV is not THE future, battery technology has not had the breakthrough elon musk is waiting for, cordless 18v batteries = 20v, and coal is in peak production.

true that 18v maybe the same as the 20v but I just got a new blower that is 58v and destroys my gas blower in terms of wind speed and lasts 40 minutes at full power and will charge fully in only 30 minutes.........how is that not an advancement? I would never use a gas blower or weed eater again. Yes this was at home depot that I bought it as well for a very good price.

I specifically stated there have been advances. i mean really people. go back and see my post where i am the one that stated in this thread that there have been incremental advances over the years of batteries. it's weird to me people just jump right over the fact. Again, what i've stated is exactly what i've learned from following elon musk, that there hasn't been a BREAKTHROUGH.
