Just got word that our daughter's on the way to the cop shop - they caught the scumbag!

Light on details at this point - we'll hear more later.

Apparently her carrier (Rogers) was able to pinpoint the last location the cellphone was turned on...and notified police. They went to the address and interviewed some guy (who lived with his mother). He was uncooperative, but told police he didn't have the phone. He claimed a buddy had it.

But his mother promised police she would work on it and contact them. That's the last we heard until the news this evening that the thief had been caught. Sounds like he may have ratted out his pal.

Update

Apparently the address the black guy gave to police - isn't his.

He's in the wind...and now police have issued a warrant for his arrest.

Meanwhile, because of the new warrant and the additional charges - my daughter has to spend time today (Sunday) going back down to the police station to give an impact statement on video.

As a result, she's unable to attend a big family get-together we're hosting here today.

This will be the fourth time she's had to take time and expense to go down to the police station (and one trip to court) since this all began.

Despite a restraining order issued by the courts, my daughter still hasn't taken the bus to work since the incident because she's afraid she might encounter some of his friends.

Instead, she's had to pay for taxis.

And still - she's out an $800 cellphone.

The only upside I see to this is - it'll be a learning experience for her...on multiple levels.

I spent some time around a few of them recently and it was a mind bending experience. They don't really have a concept of theft being immoral. In fact there are many cultures that do not share that Christian guilt / morality idea about theft and criminality that we have in North America. The idea that most Canadians have that immigrants are coming to make a better life and all love democracy is utter crap.

Some of the things I have seen lately have had me buying into the paranoiac idea that immigration is actually intended to increase crime and fear within our society, as that strengthens the case for police and government control. Thank you Mr Harper.
