Yes; Filezilla still does this saved FTP passwords are saved as plan text in an XML file.

Example of the XML in filezilla

<Server>
<Host>GFY.COM</Host>
<Port>21</Port>
<Protocol>0</Protocol>
<Type>0</Type>
<User>GFY</User>
<Pass>Plantextpassword</Pass>
<Logontype>1</Logontype>
<TimezoneOffset>0</TimezoneOffset>
<PasvMode>MODE_DEFAULT</PasvMode>
<MaximumMultipleConnections>0</MaximumMultipleConnections>
<EncodingType>Auto</EncodingType>
<BypassProxy>0</BypassProxy>
<Name>GFY.COM</Name>
<Comments />
<LocalDir />
<RemoteDir />
<SyncBrowsing>0</SyncBrowsing>GFY.COM
</Server>

Total Commander for almost 20 yrs. Have tried them all and nothing comes close. Once you get it tweaked to the way you work, you will never look back. Filezilla and the rest are weak :2 cents:

And that's why I stopped using it. Thanks for doing the research, PAR. :thumbsup

Kinda makes you wonder if they used Filezilla - https://gfy.com/fucking-around-and-pr...-site-psc.html -- read the thread and you'll understand.

FlashFXP user here for about the same as you - 14-15 years.

Never had a need to switch to a different ftp software.

Some servers work a lot faster for me in FileZilla (compared to TC).. (tried to switch from passive to non-passive etc)

wocnom 09-17-2015 02:12 AM

I used Filezilla in the past with decent results, but there's an exploit in their site manager. Unless they fixed that, I want to avoid them as well. Learned the hard way when all my sites got hijacked. Wasn't fun.

I use WS_FTP 12 ... works fine, I would say the stall in transfers is your ISP though.. when I was using cable that what would happen to my transfers.. now that I'm microwave no more issues... :2 cents:

OMFG Rob, so this was the case. I just recently had the same issues with my sites as it got exploited and they were injecting this php redirect script to all my sites. I was going fucking nuts. My hosting company was not doing shit for me, so I changed my hosting but I am still using filezilla, but this time I am NOT saving the passwords in filezilla. It always asks for PW when I log in. Finally an answer to my question.

Beaver1 09-19-2015 01:12 AM

You changed the host, but still use the same programm, that injects your host?

The hole download on sourceforge, comes full of chinese adware,
that reloads a bunch of trojans.

Not sure if the fact, that filezilla stores ftp logins in text files,
is just an remarkable coincidence.
