China's Growing Coal Use Is World's Growing Problem | Climate Central

This touches on something that I have been mentioning for a while now.

While the United States and European Union can always do more to help our environment and cut overall pollutants, the big impact countries over the coming years are going to be: China, India, Brazil, and other former less developed countries that are now becoming developed.

We can spend like crazy making the United States and European Union more efficient (which I'm okay with really,) but unless we are able to curb these other growing countries, our efforts are going to make minimal impact.

that's what makes the op so bizzarro! :1orglaugh if only those USA republicans high-5ed crockett on global warming, then China wouldn't be using exponentially more shit tons of coal than US, while our coal consumption is going down.

but hey let's all get electric cars so we can get that coal usage back up.

EonBlue 09-17-2015 10:20 AM

Let's not forget India which is set to overtake China as the world's largest importer of coal. They also have hundreds of new coal fired power plants planned for construction.

not some electric toy.

anyways to each his own.

You do realize that electric cars can out accelerate most ICE cars, right? And since sport / muscle cars use a lot of gas, you would save some money in energy and still enjoy performance.

But anyway, as you said, to each his own..

First. LOL! ok, I laughed, you got me.

The volt isn't very sexy on the inside, but anyone who knows me will tell you that I appreciate what's on the inside. The volt is "smarter" than most ICE cars, which is why I traded by Camaro for it. I'm a fucking nerd, and to me, brains = sexy.

And actually, the Volt isn't a Hybrid car. You can drive on 100% electricity only. It has an electric engine that turns the wheels, and a gasoline-powered generator that kicks in to drive the electric motor when the battery becomes depleted.

mineistaken 09-17-2015 03:56 PM

I don't like the design, too "cosmic" as from futuristic movies.

this is the most bad ass ev on the market right now, i'll be looking close at this.

Huge changes will definitely have to happen if electric cars become the norm. Solar and other energy sources will have to grow fast.

Yes but you live in Vegas.. There is a whole lot of city then nothing, so there isn't a lot of options for pulling power from other areas as it's largely isolated.

You go to say the east coast and we don't have those problems because they can more easily divert power from other areas to help cover shortages.

Not spin, I was wrong about it.. I remember reading that China had banned building new coal plants. It seems that they only banned it in large city areas, but are still building them in rural areas.

See if I'm wrong I'll own up to it, unlike others like AaronM for example who just calls people names and runs away to hide from the questions..

I wasn't really talking about Vegas. I was talking about the country.
Brownouts that occur in New York City for instance. Or L.A.

The power grid gets real stressed in the summertime from air conditioners running constantly.
I'm thinking that the power grid should be a big priority of govt. to bring it up to date FAST. And also to get as much solar, wind, and water generated electricity as we can.

Otherwise millions of cars trying to charge up would be added to the already overburdened power grid.

And I've driven the Tesla Roadster twice (not a fan either, I'm too tall for it), the Tesla Model-S 5 times, had a Tesla 85D loaned to me for a few days, and driven a P85D too. Stop strutting around like you've got the biggest cock on GFY, little girl. Stop spewing shit that you know nothing about you little cry-baby bitch, and go fuck yourself.

It depends... some muscle cars sound amazing for sure... but for me, I prefer the "Jetsons" sounds of EV. If you want a really cool EV sound, go to youtube and check out the new Harley Davidson electric bike. Really cool sounding (and cool looking too)

True... let's call it a revival then.

The idea is that since EV cars require less energy overall to move them around, less energy overall is required. Electricity can come from a variety of sources including Water (Hydro electric), solar, wind... where as ICE cars can only get it from burning fossil fuel. At only about 10% efficiency, it's really wasteful. So, I think anyway, if the world drove EV cars, energy to move them would not be a problem.

Tesla does already, and there are plenty of recycling plants around the world.

pretty odd statement coming from a guy who lives in one of the largest most spread out countries on the planet... or do you only plan on driving in small circles the rest of your life?

Of course, ICE cars will always have their place, and oil will never go away. But still for the average commuter like me, EV is perfect. I have saved almost $3000 in the year and 3 months since I've switch.

Not sure if you knew this, but you can actually go a lot of places now on pure EV. Let's say you want to drive from Montreal to Calgary in a Tesla. The GPS will plot the trip for you, but also indicate how you can get there by using super chargers along the way, that charge the car to 80% in 20 minutes.

That's cool!! I didn't know that. The i8 is drop-dead sexy thats for sure... if the M9 looks like the i8 but is all electric, I would love to test-drive one.

You can actually program your EV to charge at night or during off-peak hours. And you can also buy batteries for your house (like the Tesla Battery) that charges itself during off-peak hours too and then powers your house and charges your car during the day. It also lets you use solar power too and somehow manages it all for you in a way that saves money and reduces the load.

Hi **********, thank you for valuing my opinion but it appears you are taking things way too seriously because you are very angry and making shit up now.

Nothing will change until the 18 wheeler in the usa goes electric. Every item you buy, including parts to build teslas arrive via diesel powered big rig

There already is an electric 18 wheeler, but for now anyway I don't think its very viable... but who knows? EV technology is changing fast, and battery storage capacity is getting bigger, and the cars are getting more efficient. Maybe someday soon there really will be 18 wheel EV's on the road....

fingers crossed!

That's cool!!! I didn't know VW was making EV cars yet, but I just found this : https://www.vw.com/models/e-golf/

and check out the price : about $28,000 - a $7500 tax credit. And 83 miles per charge too. Awesome!
