I'm sorry - What A Load Of Bullshit - I highly doubt you ever did a 30 day fast - If you did then see a physiatrist - You have issues that cant be fixed with a diet...

Yep, we have to finish those programming gigs before the Paypal card will work at the grocery store.

It may vary a bit from person to person and we do kinda sorta bounce in and out throughout the day based on how we are eating - but to be in ketosis to the point that it will show on ketostix takes me at least 48hrs. Mostly, i presume because a significant amount of glycogen is stored in your liver and because proteins in part, get converted to glucose - even though you're eating low carb. That's why the optimal way to lose weight on a ketogenic diet is to have a fairly high % of calories from fat, not protein (more than 1/2 for example)

I think most people with desk jobs should be on a low carb diet. I started reading up on fat and how important it is for hormonal regulation, brain health, absorption of nutrients etc It's vital for long term health to be getting a good percentage of your calories from fat, this low fat dogma we've been fed for the past 30/40/50 years is nonsense!

People bang on about moderation and healthy balanced diets etc but there is nothing healthy about waking up and loading up on cereal and toast in the morning, followed by more and more carbs throughout the day. I know diabetics that have a diet that's full of carbs, nothing healthy about your insulin levels spiking up and down like a yo yo all day long.

I read recently that one in three children born in the United States after 2000 will likely develop type 2 diabetes sometime in their lifetime. That's fucking mental!

It's not easy to get over 50% of your calories from fat though, avocados, nuts, seeds & eggs are the main healthy options.

Joe Rogan talks about this stuff very passionately on his Youtube channel, mind you the guy is big into hunting and recently in one of his podcasts he talks about some of his friends only eating wild meat from hunting to avoid intensively farmed meat.

I find it amusing when people claim the Atkins diet doesn't work, or didn't work for them.

Yeah that's because they didn't stick to it, they went back to eating loads of simple carbs again and they start storing fat again.

Eating healthy fats has been taking my high cholesterol numbers down over a period of about 8 months. I always have a handful of brazil nuts, macadamias and almonds every day. I'll also drink a little olive oil or have an avocado where I can.

Fat does not make you fat. Carbs make you fat. Let me rephrase that....carbs + sedentary lifestyle makes you fat. Carbs are essential for active people.

this started with the announcement of the Surgeon General that a low fat diet is healthier. With that, everything that instantly "low fat" in stores and people started replacing real food with processed foods and of course started thinking that frozen yogurt (a cup full of sugar) is somehow better for you because it is "low fat". This is really what is at the core of the obesity epidemic - drifting away from whole foods to processed garbage and increased sugar/simple carb consumption - thats "low fat"

A group of doctors told me one time when i questioned them about the sheer volume of prescriptions - "of course i tell people they need to change their diet to lower their cholesterol and give them diets to follow - the problem is that they don't want to make the changes and if you want to help them and your choice is to watch them die or lower their cholesterol, the fact is that you almost always have to give them that pill"

You need "healthy fats" to make sure you are getting all your essential fatty acids. You don't need to worry about eating only "healthy fats" in ketosis - just eat more fat. Blood lipid profiles will still normalize as your weight does unless you have genetic issues with chlosterol. The whole "good fat/bad fat" bs is almost as bad as the idea of "this is low fat, so its good for me". Of course, there is a rock solid reason not to eat hydrogenated oils... but beyond that, if you want to eat more fat in your die...eat more fat. [/QUOTE]

People are dumb. A "diet" in the context of weight loss means eating fewer calories than you burn. All diets operate on that principle. You're completely right in that people are very ignorant about even the most seemingly obvious facts.

What is worse, is helping people with diet and nutrition. It is EXACTLY like an episode of Kitchen Nightmares or Bar Rescue or something like that. A person is crying... they are losing it. They are losing everything. They want help. They beg for help. They know they NEED help. Then you start talking about the changes to be made and instantly all you get back is resistance, agitation, combativeness etc. You literally have to break that person down just as Gordon Ramsey does or you won't get through to them.

consuming more calories than you expend, will cause weight gain. it doesn't matter what the source of calories is. eating 5000 calories of bacon a day or 5000 calories of pancakes and syrup a day is going to make you fat when you're only burning 2500 calories a day. conversely, you can lose weight eating only carbs or only fat.

Fasting for 30 days as you claim would be an issue - We all know it's BS though - This isnt a playground and I'm not 12 years old.....

Totally agree, carbs have their place if you have an active lifestyle

I find it depressing that we are supposed to be the most intelligent species on this planet, as a collective we're fucking retarded. Junk food should probably have a warning label on it similar to the labels on cigarettes, in the future we'll look back at this period in history as another major face palm moment :disgust

You know there are posters on this forum who claim it's all a big conspiracy from big pharmacy etc Truth is it's just sheer laziness and people love to make excuses for their problems. It enrages me that as a civilisation we've reached a point where we no longer have personal responsibility, no one's to blame for their own problems anymore. Totally agree with you!

That's interesting I did not know that

It's amazing how much process food still has some form of hydrogenated oils in them. If people want to stay fit and healthy they shouldn't eat any junk food or processed foods, of coarse that'll never happen because it's highly addictive.

A whole host of studies have found that vegetable oils become unstable when cooked at high temperatures and become carcinogenic. Of coarse most processed/junk food contains vegetable oil :Oh crap

Yep couldn't agree more, it's herd mentality from brainwashing the majority through misinformation. No different than methods used in politics, religion etc

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."

Sad but true :disgust

Have you ever tried cold shower therapy? I've been reading about this quite a bit over the past year, the research is at an early stage but it's some really interesting shit if they can substantiate the benefits they are claiming cold shower therapy can help with.

The research on increasing brown fat that burns calories vs white fat that stores calories is very interesting.

It's weird that you asked that. I recently read "Faster, Higher, Stronger - the new science of creating super athletes..." and he did a chapter on recovery strategies. It came right after reading another book on athletic performance that made me think a great deal about it.

As you said, it's all poorly understood at the moment other than when you do X, you feel better (reduced inflammation in joints, muscle tissue etc). As with all things, I think that moderation is important as he also suggests. In other words, interfering with your body's own recovery/growth process is not going to be all positives. It would really depend on the training, what you are doing etc. His recommendation for using ice baths after training was for tournament type situations where quick recovery is critical to performance (such as on The Ultimate Fighter show or something) but otherwise, its unclear the extent to which the recovery process is being interfered with - as "feeling better" is not the same as repairing tissue.
