Where did I say anyone should get a pass? If the student needed to be disciplined for her non-violent actions (cell phone usage), then she should be disciplined in a similarly non-violent method.

Once the cop started physically abusing her, she had a right to defend herself.

Good way to sum it up .......

“Even though she was wrong for disturbing the class, even though she refused to abide by the directions of the teacher, the school administrator and also the verbal commands of our deputy, I’m looking at what our deputy did,” Sheriff Lott said.

He deflected a question about the role of race, saying Deputy Fields has a black girlfriend.

It's impossible for cops who have black girlfriends to physically abuse other people...nicely summed up.

You can talk into your phone about whatever you want. It's your phone. And if you were sitting at a table with me and other people, you could do the same.

If he had his girlfriend on speakerphone doing that, I would either move table or leave. I wouldn't prevent him from having his speakerphone on. That's the restaurant's responsibility to allow that or not.

I don't get into physical confrontations with questionable offenders. I let the business establishment handle it. If the business establishment allows activity that I am not comfortable with, I leave. Businesses have a right to conduct their business the way they see fit within the law.

Maybe all the other students that feel sorry for this girl can get together and burn an autoparts store.

I already said that instead of physically abusing the girl, the cop could have dragged the desk/chair out into the hallway. That was way back in post #105.

This is a child / teen who is obviously screaming for attention, what I would have done is move the entire class to another room and leave that one there.

Get the nurse / whoever to talk to her and ask her what is going on.

This is not right, a child should not be man handled like that, not by anyone ever.

School is for nurturing, not abusing - think about it.

I do not know of any schools in AU that do this, they may but i've never experienced it in my schooling / family etc

While I agree that the cop went too far, you don't help someone by teaching them that if they have a problem the world will bend to them.

They should have just grabbed the desk, as others have suggested, and pulled it out into the hall to deal with this without disturbing the rest of the class. If you make the class leave then bring people to that person as you suggest all you are teaching them is that if they are unhappy they can act out and they will eventually get their way.

This is all theory, another theory would be that she would learn what isolation is and her
behavior has to change to end it.

By the way, your analogy about explicit language at a child's b-day party is irrelevant to this situation. Because the black student was texting in class, not talking explicitly. So if you were at my child's Chuck-E-Cheese b-day party sending sexual texts on your phone to your gf, I would not give one fuck about that...nor would I even know.

"A girl who refused to surrender her phone after texting in math class was flipped backward and tossed across the classroom floor by a sheriff's deputy, prompting a federal civil rights probe on Tuesday."

This is what happens at gun free zones...people think they can physically assault students at will. If adult students were randomly armed, I bet those abusers would think twice.

the left, AKA the politically correct communities of color is discovering it is highly profitable to disobey white authority until it elevates to the level of over-reaction, & physical confrontation. have a friend nearby to record the event, but only press record after white authority figure gets mad. after event, call in the civil rights lawyers, call rachel maddow. Get national media attention, & cash a seven figure paycheck that ultimately gets paid by the public taxpayer.

NBC news would call it, the fleecing of america.

:)

j3rkules 10-28-2015 01:46 AM

Good for him. School is not the place for disrespect. Kids need to learn when you are told to do something you must do it. She should be expelled from that school.

_Richard_ 10-28-2015 02:40 AM

while this kid 'had it coming' apparently to a lot of people here, lets take a look at other crimes kids have been arrested for, going so far as handcuffing children as young as 6:

19 Crazy Things That School Children Are Being Arrested For In America

#1 At one public school down in Texas, a 12-year-old girl named Sarah Bustamantes was recently arrested for spraying herself with perfume.

#2 A 13-year-old student at a school in Albuquerque, New Mexico was recently arrested by police for burping in class.

#3 Another student down in Albuquerque was forced to strip down to his underwear while five adults watched because he had $200 in his pocket. The student was never formally charged with doing anything wrong.

#4 A security guard at one school in California broke the arm of a 16-year-old girl because she left some crumbs on the floor after cleaning up some cake that she had spilled.

#5 One teenage couple down in Houston poured milk on each other during a squabble while they were breaking up. Instead of being sent to see the principal, they were arrested and sent to court.

school to prison pipeline is alive and well apparently

Fail. What kids 'need' to learn is appropriate behaviour, and reasoning behind it, not just a carte blanche 'because this person in authority said so'. Just like kids push boundaries and will take a mile if you give them an inch, so will those in authority. The evidence is clear on both sides of that, anywhere you care to look, so it shows how well that's gone. Mindlessly doing anything someone says just because they are in a position of authority is about the dumbest shit you can do as a person with a brain and critical thinking.

**Please read this pre-emptive disclaimer before replying**

I am talking about this standalone comment only. Obviously if someone has a gun to your head and tells you to do something, you need to do it (within reason), but advocating that people from a young age are to blindly do what you are ordered to as some kind of gospel is a load of bollocks.
