How it *was* cutting-edge but social media's taken over. He's not the first mainstreamer to comment on the ICQ thing, like it's a symptom of the decline. |

If you talk about declining numbers of webmasters why talk it through the numbers of ICQ users? Just talk about declining numbers of webmasters. That would be ridiculous - Some webmasters are switching to skype because adult industry is declining, lol. And some are staying on ICQ, menaing those are staying strong, lol. Even the original quote does not imply anything like that, it was simply: why do you use ICQ? Hardly anybody seems to use ICQ these days, except the adult industry, in which everybody uses it. |

Especially to someone from the media or social media, who want to present themselves as the driving force of the web. Just my :2 cents: |

it works, i have a few hundred contacts sorted in folder (using Trillian Astra client) which is a huge hassle if not impossible in Skype, it uses much less resources than Skype, some older clients don't use anything else than ICQ
it's about practicability, not fashion |
Why not?
|
mindgeek should buy icq.
|
I use ICQ because I have been using it for years now and have a list of good contacts built up.

ICQ has a better history and search, too. |

When I wrote I never, ever wrote on spec or submitted a query letter. I always got the assignment first then did the research. I realize this made me rather rare and quite awesome. :banana Try a broader angle like 'Decades old programs people still use and refuse to let go". (Windows XP, MySpace, ICQ, AOL, etc) Either way I want a kill fee. :) |
I sale short icq
|
That's so simple... All people you need for your business are having ICQ so why wouldn't I? :) And it work nice... :) :thumbsup
|
I use it simply because others are using it too. Why are they using it? Maybe they've been using it since Day 1, and they don't like change.
|
i use it for asking people "do you have skype instead?"

I get *maybe* one ICQ message per day now, versus dozens on Skype. ICQ is dead, as far as I'm concerned. |
When i was first introduced to the online adult porn industry I would try doing business with others and find their pages always had email and/or "icq", at first I had no idea wtf that was (this was wayyyyyyyyyyyy back in late 90's or early 2000). So eventually I decided to comply and get my own ICQ.
It still seems to be used widely with us adult webmasters, but tbh most of my biz is now done through Skype (more than ICQ) nowadays. |
Back in 1998 when a lot of guys started it was the only available option.
When new people came to the industry and wanted to do business they had no choice but to install it also, even though better options were available already. Even now there are still webmasters that don't use Skype or Telegram or Hangouts but do have ICQ. But it perfectly describes this industry, people don't like change. That's why their industry has been taken over by smarter people who embrace change. Everyone I work with that has serious traffic is on Skype. The guys that stick with ICQ are probably the same guys that complain about the tubes and that no money can be made in porn anymore. And people like affiliate reps and program owners that have no choice because others are to suborn to change to better alternatives. |
simple, fast, gets shit done.
|
Great fukn app, always liked it.
|
