I guess it's because they finally have the money and time to spend on a hobby, and biking is something that occurs to them, for a sense of "freedom". Personally I prefer mountain biking to motor biking though.

the only thing re: leather chaps (for me) was they didn't keep my nuts warm. cold nuts man, that'll catch up to ya down the road.

If you've never ridden a motorcycle you can't imagine. Once you're skilled enough where you can ride without being terrified, it is truly amazing. A pain in the dick sometimes, but amazing. The wind can be really cold, and there are bugs, so leather helps. If you ride a lot you will have a get-off, so the boots and leather help again. Probably, when you're 40 or above you have enough rank at your job, or your biz is successful enough were you're not someone's bitch all day. So you can take some trips.

That said I haven't ridden in 15 years.

If wearing leather was all about protection, that does not explain the leather vest phenomenon. Why leave your entire arm fully exposed if one is trying to protect one's self by wearing leather?

it doesn't have to be all or nothing, 1 piece full body suit or naked. people find their comfort zone and go there.

i never rode without leather gloves but often rode without leather pants or jacket.

people are also making a statement with their clothing choices. but a motorcycle vest is very much a safety item

ricers wear these all the time around here whilst doing wheelies down the freeway.

if one were going on an across the country road trip, a touring motorcycle would be the practical choice, since it's designed and built for that, not small enduro, unless you're planning on wheelieing the entire trip, then the moto would be more practical.

dyna mo 11-27-2015 01:37 PM

well, i guess you'd have to have a support van to carry your gear too, if you're gonna use that moto for highway traveling.

he isn't going anywhere on that; we both know that. Same with all these guys like Rochard, their bikes are for around town. They would never race me from LA to Vegas or Daytona.

jimmycooper 11-27-2015 01:40 PM

I think the dirt bike looking one is more of a dork thing than a Euro thing. When I think 'Euro', I think Moto Guzzi or Ducati not Yamaha.

Baddog, what do you think of Triumph?

Ferus 11-27-2015 01:50 PM

I dont understand why people have to talk other brands Down. Its about riding and having fun. If you feel you have more fun on a HD than a Husaberg or Kawasaki - then buy a HD.

Well, I owned a 69 Trident when I was in my late teens. I bought it because it was a radical chopper that I could afford. That being said it has been a very long time since I rode one.

I guess my main complaint with any British motor vehicle is Lucas Electrics, but the Lord of Darkness may not even be a factor anymore.

Back in those days, the Norton 750 Commando would have been one of my favorite bikes. If I was to buy that style bike these days I would probably lean towards a Buell or Ducati.

dyna mo 11-27-2015 01:51 PM

if i were in the market for a bike these days i'd go straight to the new scrambler:

I have only ridden a horse once and it became readily clear why cowboys wore chaps ... those animals are filthy and sweat all over you if you don't have protection.

You may not be trying to be argumentative, but you sure are not stopping to think.

Wear black - hides the dirt
Covering face with bandanna - Have you ever hit a bee at 60 MPH? Every little bit helps
Seedy bars - Fuck, they are a lot more fun than some club
Beards - Help as a cushion/buffer against rocks, hail, bugs a lot more than a bandanna

Baddog gets very angry when I call out dumb bikers who dress like they are going to a Halloween contest..

Yes they are all over CO.. every retard on a road bike dresses like Lance Armstrong and has a $3k bicycle...

Oddly enough the mountain bike guys don't seem to dress up in their favorite costume but they do have $3k bikes.

The guys with dirt bikes are even worse. I've never seen a place before that riding a dirt bike required having the full fledge moto cross outfit down to the matching boots and helmets of their fav team.. it's as bad as Nascar rednecks wearing Tide jackets..

right, as I recall you call out anyone for wearing protective gear for that specific hobby. They should all be in scuba suits and flippers just to be different.

Wearing leather chaps, half helmets if one at all and half vests isn't wearing protective gear. It's trying to pretend you are a tough biker while looking like a gay Porn star..

Protective gear is full leathers or a slide suit with a full face helmet, but of course wearing that doesn't look cool am I right?

Keep pretending though..

it all depends on how you want to go.

Now back to the initial topic:
I used to ride a bike in France (a Japanese one). We had a lot of fun riding it with my wife and believe me, it's the only practical way to drive around Paris (you can ride between lanes there).
Then we had kids and I kept riding to the office and back but my wife would no longer ride with me.
Finally, I moved to Canada and the fuckin SAAQ (Quebec driving licences and vehicle registrations) doesn't recognize foreign bike driving licences, you can't ride between lanes and you are fucked 50% of the year so I gave up on it.

why are you so fixated on homosexuals? I wear a half helmet because I feel safer having peripherals, as I'm used to having them from years of cycling. I don't wear vests because I don't think they protect ME enough, other riders feel different but I never thought to call them gay because of it. I don't wear all that other shit because I don't believe I MYSELF need to.

You are pretty judgemental for a hippy driving a volkswagon aren't you?

Stop to think about every Congressional scandal involving a Congressman and a gay guy. The Congressman has always been the most vocal anti-gay voice out there.

Now, think about cockett. He is really gay, but because he is so fucking stupid I don't call him out on it because I don't want people to associate his stupidity with the GLBT movement.
