It wasn't really a death star. It was a planet with a built in supercannon in it.
The First Order didn't have many capital ships in their fleet (i think they only showed one Star Destroyer), so maybe all the resources were poured into building that supercannon.
The First Order had also a lot of time to recover since ROTJ. The New Republic government cut them slack and didn't bother chasing them down. |
