RummyBoy 01-11-2016 07:29 AM

He was amazing in Labyrinth too....

PayOut Magazine 01-11-2016 07:36 AM

Sad. He was too young, in body and spirit. Rest in Peace, Ziggy...

I won't make a sad face, just leave it at that.

Rochard 01-11-2016 07:52 AM

How very sad... I've always been a fan.

iSpyCams 01-11-2016 07:55 AM

I only shed tears once a decade or so, but this really got me. I made the mistake of putting on "Space Oddity" on vinyl before I finished my coffee this morning, after hearing the news - sobbed like a baby. I guess I'm good for another 10 years or so now.

Had to listen to this to lighten up:

poncabare 01-11-2016 08:15 AM

he had some good tunes

Wow - genius
thanks for finding that

I grew up listening to David - now it feels a part of my childhood and soul has died with him. Truly will miss his light in the world

HowlingWulf 01-11-2016 08:34 AM

Will be listening to Bowie on Spotify today.

rhon23 01-11-2016 08:46 AM

one of the biggest influences in my music life. RIP Bowie

I saw Bowie live in concert only once.

24 September 1997 at the Metropolis in Montreal. Supporting the release of the album "Earthling" (Little Wonder, I'm Afraid of Americans)

Wow, wait. At *Metropolis*? Are you sure? I love that place. It has the best sound of any concert venue. But how can Bowie play Metropolis? It's a small 2500 capacity or so place, not a 20k seat forum. Was Bowie a surprise guest or was this a secret / surprise concert of some kind? I never knew he played there.

I know. When I heard he was playing Metropolis, I jumped on the chance to see him there.
Here's the tour from wiki.

So sad. I really was hoping he was immortal. I suppose he's gone back to that planet he fell from so long ago. The new album is very Bowie. I love it.

I will miss the Goblin King.

The new album is called BlackStar. It only has 7 songs on it...but the title track is an opus that runs almost 10 minutes long and is some of the strangest and most experimental stuff he ever did.

The video for the song "BlackStar" is incredible as well. He was apparently going to create a series of videos for the "character" he is portraying on the album with the blindfold and the strange fake "eyes" on the blindfold.
Also at the beginning of the video...I believe that's the body of "Major Tom" lying on an alien world dead.

Bowie was a major influence on pop culture...music, art, fashion, and will continue to be remembered as one of TRUE artists of his time.

I saw him back in 1978 in Kansas City Missouri. I had second row sets. Brilliant

I don't know where I am going from here, but I promise it won't be boring.

Times flys.R.I.P Bowie

The Porn Nerd 01-11-2016 03:31 PM

As a music journalist I interviewed David Bowie twice, once on the phone and once in person. The phone interview took place at 7 am New York time. I lived in LA so had to get up at 4 am to take the call. We discussed coffee a lot (he loved Illy Caffe). The conversation was supposed to last 1/2 hour but went 1 hr 15 mins. It would've gone on longer if Iman had not interrupted, reminding David he had a doctor's appointment (dentist).

The second time was two years later, in person in New York. Again the interview was to be a 1/2 hour but this time lasted two hours. He couldn't get over how strangely beautiful my eyes were and compared them to his own (anyone who's met me will know what he's talking about). We discussed in length how being different affected each of us. He was a genuinely nice, warm, caring, intelligent and artistic gentleman and meeting him was one of the best experiences (and interviews) I ever had.

Thanks David and Rest In Peace my friend.

I saw the announcement, he'd released a new album, just the other day. I went in watched a couple of the videos, it was typical Bowie. He looked so gaunt, pale, I didn't realize he had cancer. RIP...

Rand 01-14-2016 01:40 PM

In 2004, I had the opportunity to see him perform at the Wiltern in Hollywood. This is an intimate venue for someone like David Bowie with a maximum capacity of 4k. The place was packed and standing room only. At one point I found myself in the back of the room leaning against the wall watching the show when an usher walked up to me and asked if I'd like to go to the pit. WOW!!! I watched the last half of the show just a few feet away from the thin white duke. It was an amazing show and I will never forget the positive energy that filled the room.

Blackstar is brilliant and a fitting farewell to such a vast career. Here's an interesting article about where the name may have come from.

MadMario 01-14-2016 02:34 PM

I can't remember an era of my life that didn't have a David Bowie song. I'm still shocked and saddened by his death. I was in awe and amazement when I first heard Blackstar Never heard anything like it. Brilliance up to the very end. Still can't believe he's gone.
