The user-generated content-based site is a thing, OP is f**king dumb.

InfoGuy 10-04-2019 10:57 PM

OP probably meant 400 million Mexican Pesos, which would be about $20 million. While it's still not accurate, it's a lot closer to 13 million US Dollars than 400 million US Dollars. The Porn Nerd is too gullible and should have known better than taking OP's post at face value. Anyone have a bridge to sell him?

I bet you sex.com is not profitable.

It's easy to get a picture of what it makes. Take the US and EU traffic per day estimate the CTR on ads, the price they're paid for clicks and a rough guess can be made. Of course you have to deduct the costs, servers, staff, location, etc.

At the top of the market, sex.com sold for $13m. It would have had to change hands 30.8x since that purchase at that same $13m sale price in order to achieve $400m.

To put it further into perspective, Youporn sold for $50m (roughly) and it was one of the top 50 sites on the planet. No one paid 8x more than that for sex.com.

Which illustrates the falling value of this industry, prices would be increasing for domains if we made more money. They are in fact falling dramatically.

Paul, I love you like a crazy uncle at Thanksgiving complaining that things have never been they same since the railroaded Nixon, BUT

The industry is not dropping in value, the old methods of making money are disappearing.

User generated = Mostly stolen....

thieves rule the Internet :2 cents:

I have a vague memory of that domain being stolen via the registry. Emails were posted and letters, too. A lawsuit against the thief eventually got the domain returned. I read it all here so if you search back to the mid-nineties I think you’ll find it.

I thought it was sold back then for one million dollars which was obscene to most people.

$400 million for the domain....and it's profitable. Yah right. LOL
Maybe in eight years it will turn to black but I bet you sex.com is still in the red.

it made around 2.5 million per year before it was changed to this look.

the site now IS probably profitable but could make much more if they would not try to selfmarket it.
