Morgan Freeman Discussing Black History Month:
Mike Wallace: Black History Month, you find.... Morgan Freeman: Ridiculous Wallace: Why? Freeman: You're going to relegate my history to a month. Wallace: Oh c'mon Freeman: What do you with yours? Which month is White History month? Wallace: uh well Freeman: cmon, tell me Wallace: (stammer) I'm Jewish Freeman: Ok, which month is Jewish History month? Wallace: There, there isn't one. Freeman: Oh. oh, why not? Do you want one? Wallace: No, no. Freeman: I don't either. I don't want a Black History month. Black History is American history. Wallace: How are we going to get rid of racism ... Freeman: Stop talking about it. I'm gonna stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a Black man. I know you as Mike Wallace, you know me as Morgan Freeman..... . |

'First black president' This was huge when obama became president. I couldn't understand why they kept talking about his skin color. Isn't competence the only thing that matters? All the racist votes for him were laughable also. Black people mass voting on him, just because he's black. Can you be any more close minded and racist? |

The first big problem of this whole idea of "black history" is that the discussion always defaults to achievement rather than history. George Washington Carver is just a guy who did a lot with peanuts. It's not "black history" anymore than anyone doing anything represents the history or an entire race.
And has been pointed out, saying "hey, here's a list of stuff we've done as a race" is bizarre as it Implies that otherwise, achievements of that race are few and far between and not to be expected. This is the year 2016. There is no racism in the USA. There is no widely held belief that one race will never be able to be good at math or flying a plane or playing baseball because of their race. Further, as you move up the black socioeconomic ladder, and education, cried if "racism" start to really fade. The loudest bunch are always those at the very bottom, seeking to lay blame rather than accord responsibility and work hard to take control of their own fate and build a better life for their children. For example, the two black guys talking non stop about racism are the two poorest black guys on this forum. That's not a coincidence, it's just an example of how weak these two people are as human beings. What doesn Neil.Degrasse Tyson have to say about race? Nothing. It's itrelevant to education, work ethic and achievement. All we have now is an endless litany of assholes crying about "racism" without even understanding the meaning of the word and working hard to make issues about race and racism when they aren't. I say that we should all strive to make a real difference and start a "stop black on black murser month" or "stick around and parent your child month" and stop talking in feel good sound bites and stop blaming a non existent problem and start tackling the issues and dealing with them for what they are. |
CHICAGO (Reuters) - The number of homicides in Chicago increased 76 percent in January compared to last year as Mayor Rahm Emanuel's approval rating slumped to a record low in the aftermath of the release of a video showing a white police officer killing a black teen.

I did answer the question. He asked me what I thought about Freeman's opinion. If you are wondering if I agree with his opinion, that's a different question. And no, I do not agree with it, in case you were still wondering. |

Not analogous. Racial segregation and Jim Crow were laws subject to criminal penalties. In contrast, Black History Month is not a law. No one is forced to celebrate it. If people were forced to celebrate BHM, I would be against it. |

If individuals want to self-segregate themselves away from others in society, that is their right to choose how to live, and I support their right to do it. I do not choose that lifestyle for myself. |

You know why this is? Its because it was a really warm Jan compared to last year. |

Depends on who is enforcing. If the government is enforcing racial segregation, i am against it. If an individual is enforcing his own self-segregation, I support the right to do that. |

Hard to get pulled over in Chicago compared to Chicago suburbs to begin with unless you look shady and now that the paper trail has to follow every pullover will be even less pullovers/random bad guy arrests/gun confiscations.
