So think about it like this: You build a phone that lets you pay for things using your thumb print. You update the OS regularly. Someone else fixes your phone but somehow violates or breaks or disturbers to bumps the security feature or could possibly cause it to be less secure.

Now you issue a new OS update, and now you see that some phones no longer work because of this new security issue, that was not caused by you, but instead caused by a 3rd party. Is it your responsibility to fix it?

Personally I'm on the fence. I would hate to have my phone broken thanks to this. It would be nice to be able to roll-back to the previous OS, or to see Apple roll out a program to fix the issue at a reduced cost, but I don't think they would have to if they didn't want to.

no, it does not make sense, the car industry tried this and fought through any court and lost.

and I think we agree that security issues on a car can cost lives - opposed to iPhones

this is just a dick move by one of the most greediest companies ever

I would have 1 charger for my phone instead of the 20 laying all over my house.

As a person who used androids for years and then switched to iPhone a year ago I have to say you this:

It costs twice as Android but it's also twice faster (saves time) and less buggy (saves grey cells and hair loss). After two years it will be twice worth than any android phone. That micro USB is just a piece of cable that you'll get with the iPhone and you can plug its "old standard USB" side it in any other charger or usb port around (computer, samsung tv or some other phone charger) to charge your phone and on the other side of the cable is that new Apple connector that's the best thing invented since the USB itself - trust me on that.

I've used latest Samsung androids (Galaxy S2, S3, S4). I had every of them day after global premiere. They were all shitty, slow as fuck, full of useless applications and nerve wrecking. My GF still has Galaxy S4 and when I have to use it - I get frustrated to a point that I want to brake it against the floor.

this is a good point. apple is a pop culture fad. like lady gaga, & boybands, one day they will be as stale as sears.

that day for apple is coming. Their phones no longer lead the market tech wise. they dont have curved glass. They dont provide good value, only rich people & conformists own it.

when the conformists bail, when the brand is stale, apple will collapse. They have nothing new in the pipeline, & the phone is like 70% of revenue now.

enjoy the temporary overpriced vogue you box yourself to. apple loves to fleece your money with endless updates & upgrades.

Those Apple stores in malls are money makers and they want you coming there, a WSJ article even mentioned other mall stores despising them because people went there for the Apple store and not other stores, mall management in turn hikes prices up for everyone. People that use Apple tend to be more affluent, sheepleness aside.

I was a good 3rd party (I made the phone as it was the day it was purchased), I didn't screw things up and I didn't jail break things. To be fair to Apple most 3rd parties are liabilities, using the cheapest parts and can cause massive liability to Apple for damage control when the customer is in the store, eating the cost of a shitty 3rd party, which I know they've done. Some people have great experiences at the Apple store.

The repair business is also profitable for Apple, they have direct communication with manufactures and get the best rates. The profit has to be very high.

When you are in Apple's store they can push more on you as well. Most won't buy more but there's a good chance 10%+ will. Waiting around for service does that.

Error 53 is one of those things that could cause a sizable exodus. Xbox and Microsoft had to immediately change things from the always connected to the internet policy from a public outcry.

Granted if you keep your phone in a nice case and have plenty of disposable income, this topic is of no concern to you. I just get worked up because I'm a tinker and have plenty of experience and information on Apple's shunning of 3rd parties.

I agree with everything you have said, but I don't think its necessarily a bad thing.

- Of course Apple stores are there to sell you Apple products.
- Of course they want you to come in.
- Of course they want you to buy more stuff while you are there.
- Of course they want to fix your phone for you instead of a 3rd party.

- Of course they would make it harder for 3rd party shops to fix your phone. <*<

Let's examine the last point a bit. I have several Apple Mac's that are passed warranty as well as an iPhone. I have had to call for support a few times, but guess what - I never once had to pay for that support even though the warranty had expired (and no, I never bought Apple extended care either). Every time I've needed support, it was fast, direct, solved the issue, and totally free.

If I had a machine or phone serviced by a 3rd party, I think it would be a completely different story.

I'm not saying this as an Apple fanboy, I'm saying this that because as a company, I think Apple really, really, really, gets it right. They truly know how to earn repeat business.

If I buy a new car and I get it serviced by a 3rd party, I can void the warranty on the car or at the very least, that part of the car. And if I want to get my car fixed because of something that the 3rd party had done, I have to pay for that service. How can you say this makes no sense?

Was thinking the exact same thing. I'm on my 4th or 5th iPhone, out of all those phones I have only ever had one issue, my home button wasn't working all the time, it was buggy, this is a problem that developed after 10 months. I took it to the Apple store in Detroit (Canadian phone!) and they gave me a brand new phone there and then.

Say what you will about Apple but their customer service is great. Yeah the stores are a bit nerdy and annoying at times but I never have to use them so whatever.

OldJeff 02-08-2016 08:30 AM

The moral of the story is don't go to Joe Shit for your phone repair, family has 3 Iphones, a hand full of I pods, 3-4 IPads, 2 Apply Watches and a Mac Book pro. Most of it is covered by Applecare, daughter dropped her phone and shattered the glass, here is a new phone, Old mac book air developed a keyboard issue, here is a a new one.

I bought them, don't fuck with them, and they work, no problems

Apple was started in 1976, and is still going strong 40 years later.
The Mac was released in 1994 and still going strong 30 years later.
The iPhone was released in 2007 and still going strong 9 years later.

A Pop culture fad? Really? Of course things can change any time but dismissing Apple as a fad is lazy and makes no sense.

Seriously? The new iPhones you can buy now have 3D Touch, Live (moving) photos, Retina HD Displays, Taptic Engines (The screen taps you back). The new 64 Bit processor is almost twice as fast as previous models, as are the new GPU's, Touch ID, etc. iPhone 6s - Technology - Apple (CA) The new iPhones coming out soon as supposed to have long-range wireless charging technology - no more cable to connect to charge it. Cool isn't it?

Wow definitely not true. My Phone connects me to my business no matter where I am for web, email and apps. It is my fitness tracker, and my social gateway. It lets me control my home environment (furnace, air conditioning), the charging status of my car, watch movies and listen to music. It also seamlessly connects to all of my other devices to share files and media. And oh right, the battery lasts forever too. How can you say they don't provide good value?

On Apple.com, you can buy an iPhone 5s with 16GB with for $0.00, and a 32GB version for $49.00 with a 2 year contract. Buy iPhone 5s - Apple

Who is the conformist here? I've tested all kinds of products and have both PC's and Mac's, and I'm saying that Apple gives the best value, so until something better comes along I will probably buy more Apple products.

Apple usually doesn't announce new products or major updates until they are fairly close to being released, but I'm sure you knew that already.

In the past 2 years Apple released the Apple Watch, a brand new iMac, a brand new Mac, Apple TV, a brand new music streaming service for iTunes, and 2 brand new iPhones.

As for the new iPhone, all you need to do is ask the Googletron 5000

Joshua, sorry dude but you are way off. Since 2007 when I bought my first Mac, there has been 6 major updates to their operating system. The total amount I have paid for those updates has been $20.00. Not $20 each, $20 total.

Windows on the other hand saw Windows Vista (About $250), Windows 7 (about $250), Windows 8 (about $250?). Only Windows 10 was free.

All updates to the iPhone iOS has been free.

I have not paid once for any technical support even though my warranties have expired.

What Voids Your Vehicle's Warranty? -- Edmunds.com

if the reason for a parts failure is unclear, a dealer will usually charge you to diagnose the vehicle. If the aftermarket part was not properly installed or a modification led to a component failure, it is within the dealer's right to void the warranty for that part, and you will have to pay for the repairs out of pocket.

wrong again. none of this backs up your incorrect claim that 3rd party repair voids the warranty.

i'm too busy to search the legislation - just believe me when I say that at least in Europe 3rd party service does not void warranty - even though car manufacturers fought for it.

they even must give all internal information regarding recalls etc to 3rd party service on demand

It's ok, I believe you and I've heard about it too. My point still stands though. If a mechanic breaks your car that is still under warranty, your car or that part at least may lose its warranty.

no need for name calling, dumbfuckwad.

again, dipshit, that doesn't void the warranty.

it's simply not covered under the fucking warranty but you're too fucking stupid to figure that out. try and use your 1 fucking brain cell to figure out that if work was done wrong and/or used a non-official part, neither the work, the non-standard part or the consequences are covered under the fucking warranty. for the fucking stupid- that's not voiding the fucking warranty, you fucking nitwit. you really think that a manufacturer can dictate they are the only ones allowed to work on YOUR car? you really are as fucking stupid as you think i think you are.

dyna mo 02-08-2016 06:13 PM

dumbfuckwad nitwit::

5 Dumb Things That Can Void Your Car Warranty

Keep all receipts on any maintenance work done at facilities other than the dealership while your car is under warranty. Some people do not return to the dealer for service after buying a new vehicle. They have their vehicles serviced at quick lubes, their local repair facility, and/or anywhere they can find a deal. It's okay, as long as the service provider uses the specified fluids and OEM (original equipment) quality filters.

So what's the problem? A lot of folks don't keep records and receipts. They have no documentation proving that the services were done according to mileage intervals as specified by the carmaker. When it comes time to file a warranty claim, the carmakers will ask for proof that the services were done. No receipts? No warranty coverage. This is one benefit of going to a dealer for regular maintenance while under warranty; the carmaker requires that they keep meticulous records. When and if a warranty claim becomes necessary, the dealership simply transfers all vehicle records electronically to the proper people for processing.
