That is another thing about European beaches. I was scarred for life waking up on the beach next to topless German granny with hairy armpits.

I like photographing male models in Speedos.

A global survey of penis size is out and American men come in a disappointing 96th out of 116 countries included. You?ll be happy to know, all of those myths seem to have been 100% confirmed. African countries dominate the to 20 and ALL of the bottom 15 are all Asian countries.

As for water drag - I am by no means a fast swimmer, pretty average even in terms of amateur swimming (worse than worse in terms of pro swimming) and it surely feels that you are a little bit slower in shorts.

So your expert is a gay guy who is salivating at the thought of guys wearing budgie smugglers?

Or some swimwear designer?

No one i s drowning due to wearing boardshorts, they may find normal cargo or other shorts not designed FOR swimming could cause problems, much the same as trying to open a car door with a sledge hammer.

Right tool for the right job.

So dick stickers are not saving lives and at the same time, boardshorts are not taking lives :2 cents:

My expert was the lifeguard guy.
And it is strange not to understand that shorts adds to the drowning effect in comparison to briefs.
It may not be visible, but:
If you take 1000 people, give them briefs and alternatively take those people and give them shorts and make them swim as much as they can, the second sample size guys would start drowning a little bit quicker. That is simple physics.

I wouldn't be caught dead in briefs so maybe that's why less drown cause their desire not to be caught dead in those..

and really if shorts add drowning effect maybe you shouldn't go in the water cause you clearly can't swim very well. I grew up on the lake since I was like 8 and I've water skied since I was 12. I've never come close to drowning cause of my shorts other than the time a ski hit me in the head as I wiped out and almost knocked me out..

Lucky for me I don't have to worry about that shit as I am not allergic to running and hitting the gym. I started wearing euro style briefs back when I was in middle school. A few times guys called me gay, I called them lazy fat fucks and some foolishly tried to chase me, it was like a pig chasing a deer, it was funny, you ever laugh as you were running fast? That's something I'll never forget, unable to take deep breaths from laughing but it didn't matter because fat ass wasn't even close to catching me.

And you would have swam even better if you did it in briefs, that is my point. It causes drowning effect IN COMPARISON to briefs. And this is not something noticeable by the eye like you assume by your ignorant post.
Nobody is saying that you are actually noticeable drowning or anything like that. :error
Just think why pro swimmers are not swimming in shorts - because it is HARDER. Physics.

This stereotype was already established in the first post. And then repeated by many posters later on.
Discussion topic is - who and how invented this stereotype in US.

So far we have only one plausible theory: fat guys did not like how they looked in briefs so they started telling "dass gay" and during the course of many years it suddenly became well known stereotype.

I am not sure about this theory, just saying that is the only one we got from this thread so far.

Contrary to popular belief not everyone in the United States is fat. There are many guys here that could wear those man panties but since you look like a flaming homosexual exposing your junk, they choose not to.

That old article said it was jammers. Still the case? However dong is also visible in those I assume, since they are also "tight".

What if those "briefs" gave less drag than speedos? Would you walk around a beach with those on?

What if you have a 14 inch mule pecker? Must be a little ridiculous wearing a speedo?

iSpyCams 04-14-2016 11:57 AM

Serious answer:

I think it's because Americans have odd ideas about their bodies and swimwear that exhibits the outline of your junk would be considered vulgar by most and "show-offy" by the rest.

To complicate things I seem to remember in the 90's in Austin Texas speedo's and similar swimwear were embraced whole-heartedly and seemingly overnight by the gay community in a way that made it a strong statement of sexual orientation to wear anything but trunks or bermudas while swimming. So even in places where it's no big deal to be openly gay, it's not advantageous in any way if you aren't, so trunks it is.

dyna mo 04-14-2016 12:50 PM

There's no valid answer to the question because it's not a valid question.

I'll prove this too-

why are board shorts not popular in Europe?

They'd no valid answer to that .

NickBaer 04-14-2016 12:59 PM

I was hoping Kenya would be at the top of the list.

SpeedoDave 04-14-2016 01:36 PM

G'day guys,

I grew up in Australia so wearing speedos while swimming or junior lifeguard was no big deal.

These days I swim a bit and when swimming laps I'll wear speedos or jammers like most of the guys in the pool here in Aussie.

Last month I was in Colorado (Breckenridge) and went to the pool, mainly just to see how much 9,000 feet above sea level made a difference) and all of the guys swimming laps were wearing boardies which didn't make sense to me. But then in the change room, guys were walking around completely naked which didn't make sense to me either.

Dave

PS - If you have any gay traffic who likes speedos SwimmerBoyz.com has been around since 2001.

I will just repeat once again - this was also established in the thread.

Thread is aimed at finding out how/when/by whom that "dass gay" stereotype was invented.

Those are/looks like WOMEN's thongs, not MEN's swimming briefs. Completely illogical post, it is pointless to even discuss anything with someone who post ridiculous "arguments" like this.

If you mean briefs - again, you are talking extremes, 99,99999999999% of people do not have 14 inches.

Elaborate. Board shorts are pretty popular in Europe as far as I know. Are you claiming swimming briefs are popular in US? If so, nice to hear, but people from this thread seems to disagree.

That is about women not liking their partners showing off too much. Not to mention those who have fat partners (automatically "no" reply to briefs due to that fact).
Proper poll would be - do women prefer seeing other/random men on the beach in briefs or not :)

no, i'm not claiming that. i'm claiming there's no reason that board shorts won out over briefs. if you watch ww2 Navy documentaries and such, you'll see that they swam and trained in swimming briefs. we don't have a problem with them. some clown made a snarky comment about them being gay at some point in time and that comment took off and it stuck.

Now that is a very interesting post. I completely agree about that clown making a comment. Just wanted to find out more about when/who etc :)

And this post is interesting because I am not sure if you are correct about "we don't have a problem with them". Judging by most of the posts in this thread :)
Maybe it proves power of sheep mentality - one clown made a comment and the herd followed.

i mean we don't have a problem with them inherently. only due to the epithet of the biased view. i also think that women have a lot to do with it and that's why i thought that article on UK women not liking them is revealing. if women don't like them on men, then it stands to reason that the biased view combined with women not liking them on men led to board shorts becoming more ubiquitous.
