precise pangolin is great , i'm still using this os but will disconnect soon, i would stay from 14.04 because it's a memory hog :2 cents:

lucid was fine but not a great as pangolin

14.04? KDE or GNOME (XFCE?)

my new installs are xenial 16.04 -- seems much better so far (knock on wood).

running ubuntu...it is able to play movies...windows media player or other...skype...jabber....thunderbird...etc?

I haven't tried skype, jabber or thunderbird.

Was playing some videos on some sites and not on others. Flash videos were the ones not playing, I believe.

I ran "apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras" and those seem to play okay now.

I had an issue where the OS would periodically just freeze up and I would have to turn off the computer to restart. I don't know what was causing that, But have not had the issue in the last couple of weeks. Maybe fixed with one of the updates. Been running "sudo apt-get update" at every start-up.

gnome always , ram was totally taken i loved the bars and effects but this not enough.
since this higher version mostly it will demand even more memory !
