And as a sci-fi fan: this is a shit. I am a bit afraid to say Kubrick is an overhyped fucktard, this movie proves it. The only thing I like from it is the music / main theme of it at least..
This movie was one of my biggest movie-related disappointments in my life. So many told me Kubrick is a demigod... than I saw eyes wide shut [terrible pain - I DEMAND my hours back!] and this.. [same..] I can name a few other 'classics' from him I will never see because these were So Disappointing..

12 Angry Men!
I know it is ranked very high on IMDb, but I noticed that many of my friends (ok, my only friend) doesn't want to see it because it's 1957 or so... Yes, I know they're all sitting in one room, it's black and white, but trust me - even if you need to go to the toilet, you will not go!
It's that good. Also, it's 90 mins long, so it's not like you will die if you don't go.

candyflip 05-19-2016 08:07 AM

I'm working on the people who made this movie's next feature. Spending my June out in the woods as DIT.

This one here is great if you're a horror fan.

i agree about 2001. I like scifi movies and this one was so hyped and i never saw it. Until a few months ago, i wanted to watch a good scifi and i thought i cant go wrong with this one.

Christ what an annoying movie. I can really enjoy slow movies but this takes boring to another level... And that deafening, irritating classical music going on for fucking 15 minutes straight, jesus. A few minutes i can take it and even enjoy it, but this was truly agonizing. And this movie is so boring it's like a sleeping pill.

By the way i saw it in 3 times because the first 2 times i fell asleep.
Only part i liked was when Hal turned on the guys, but that was also about 15 minutes of what felt like 6 hours.

JesseQuinn 05-19-2016 10:43 AM

didn't get the greatest reviews but Bad Words makes me howl with laughter every time I watch it.

La Haine by Mathieu Kassovitz [one of my top movies ever]
Imagine a School...Summerhill - for parents - I am pretty much into alternative education, especially because hungarian state schools are shit [both my daughters go to Waldorf school]
Across the Universe for Beatles fans
Stand by Me - childhood fav movie

I have had La Haine on my wishlist for a year, never pulled the trigger on it. It is that good? Vincent Cassel is ftw.

Someone else posted the loved ones, that looks pretty dope, going to check that out.

Lets keep this thread going. I have been looking for some new movies to watch.

The Raid 1 & 2. Amazing fight scenes

Have you seen Rampage? Pretty dope, super low budget but good. I was up one night and put Raid 1 on, as soon as that was over I had to start Raid 2, that was a late night. Great movies.

for real. wicked thread

CarlosTheGaucho 05-19-2016 01:21 PM

Have about 600 of them stored in my IMDB watch list.

However these are really across different genres with their creation date from the 30's to 00's so it's pretty hard to recommend unless I'd know some examples of movies you really like.

brassmonkey 05-19-2016 01:25 PM

Horror over here. I go through quite a few while working.

brassmonkey 05-19-2016 05:51 PM

La Haine is a masterpiece in my eyes. Vincent - and I believe all the actors - are using their own names in this movie. Along with Pulp Fiction and Natural Born Killers this was the movie we were watching at all parties when I was in high school. :pimp
Watch it with subtitles!!! The french voices are awesome, however it can be that for some it might be annoying. :P

lagwagon 05-20-2016 07:10 AM

Watched La Haine last night, pretty awesome coming of age movie. Go out with a bang and you got yourself a movie! :)

It's a slick movie.

But if you pause and think of the idea, how one small action can change your life. It's mind blowing. One small action. One simple sentence, to another human. Your life could be so different.

Beside Run Lola Run, germans have some other cool movies, Knocking on a Heaven's door, I'm July, Das Experiment

One of my all time favorites.

Lola was also good, but I believe it was only one "run" in the name. At least in the original version.
