Gunshots have broken out in the capital. Not sure if it's a gun battle or a celebration.

Interesting....while he was supporting ISIS ,worked with Saudis and shooting on Russians, everything was fine. Suddenly, after started resolving problems with Russians, someone organized this.

Meanwhile, what is official US statement regarding this? Anyone at all said that no one will talk with non democratic government that came on power by force against will of citizens? :winkwink:

j3rkules 07-15-2016 03:26 PM

Early days but if they really have taken out the pro-Islamist, anti-human rights, utterly corrupt Erdogan regime, then they deserve our full support.

Rochard 07-15-2016 03:26 PM

Looks like Newsweek called this months ago....

Will There Be a Coup Against Erdogan in Turkey?

GFED 07-15-2016 03:26 PM

Martial law yet?

Barry-xlovecam 07-15-2016 03:26 PM

I was just watching a live street demonstration of people carrying Turkish flags demonstrating -- pro government? No police or military seen -- in Istanbul .

I wonder if this means Turkey will return to the secular modern vision of Kemal Ataturk...I fervently hope so.

Tasty1 07-15-2016 04:11 PM

Looks like the coup failed. I would fight till the end, they will be tortured and disappear i think.
But the coup could also be lead by people that are even worse than Edrogan.

I didn't call Erdogan i goatfucker! Sorry sorry, if people think that ;)

Conspiracy theory, Erdogan set it up himself...

it doesn't concern Europe

It does concern the EU. The EU has a treaty with Turkey regarding refugees from Syria and other countries. Turkey keeps them for a big load of money and visa free travel. Visa free travel isn't there yet, won't come i hope. Also Turkey airbases are used to fight IS, is a partner in fighting against IS (and secretly supporting IS). Turkey can open the borders so millions of refugees will come to the EU. The dutch government is on reces (=holiday) but all are called back from holiday they just said. Time to build a new wall?

Turkey has always been the gateway to Asia, part Europe, part Asia.

Whoever the military coup are, they seem to be shooting civilians according to pictures on twitter.

Bet it turns out to be Russian backed after Turkey shot down their jet for violating air space.

Turkey Facts, Turkey Flag -- National Geographic

Straddling the continents of Europe and Asia, Turkey tries to be a bridge between West and East. The portion of Turkey's land in Europe may be small (about 5 percent), but the country's largest city, Istanbul, is there. With nearly 13 million people, Istanbul is the third most populous European urban area, after Moscow and Paris.

Turkey is almost more Europe than Holland where only live 16 million people.

With the terrorist attacks, Brazil looks more and more peaceful :)
They might rob tourist, but most violence is between drug dealers and not so many tourist got killed.
Not so much multicultural problems here in Brazil, less tension than in Eruope or on GFY.
Corruption is the biggest problem.

nothing really kicks off in that area without the Germans..

43 civilians dead. Looks more like a terrorist take over this way.
No support from most of Turkish people.
Glad it didn't become a mass slaughter.
Erdogan might get more power now, that is bad.
Sometimes it is better to have a dictator, like Saddam, in some countries.
