The United States never really lost a battle in Vietnam. However, there was very little public support for the war with the American public. The politicians didn't allow the military to do what it needed to do. At a certain point we had a choice between going all out or walking away, and the politicians decided it was time to get out. |
@rochard;
I'm sorry your dad died along with some of my friends, my friends brothers and my teacher's son in the war. I am sorry they died fighting a fight that was not really theirs to fight. That was so long ago but it still saddens me. |

I really can't understand how you guys can be so brainwashed. How you heard something about Internet? Maybe somebody told you that any kind of information is freely available there, or pornhub is the only site you are familiar with? This is Vietnam: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...d_children.jpg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...rningHouse.jpg I won't post more images here, because they are really TERRIBLE. Is this something you have to be proud for your army? Burning kids with napalm? Oh these brave soldiers were such heroes. This is the invasion into Russian Crimea (yes that's brutal and merciless invasion you are so worried about): These are not staged Hollywood movies. This is a documentary. Feel the difference? |

This is what happened during the failure of the space rocket engine. Watch it at 2:50 (that's an unique documentary footage): The cosmonauts were ejected in the capsule and have survived. As you may know, Russia did most of space launches in the human history (two times more than the USA) and lost only 4 cosmonauts in two accidents. In both cases the people have died during the landing: determination of the capsule and a failure of parachute system. No single cosmonaut has died during the rocket launch so far. In contrast to Russia, the United States have no technologies to equip their rockets with life saving systems. Thus in case of failure the astronauts are doomed and they have no single hope to be saved... Don't think that I'm trying to make fun of this tragedy or so. No way! I'm just showing you that the real US technologies and not the same as the ones shown in your countless movies. They are too overpriced far not the best ones in the world like Hollywood tries to show it... You were the 2nd in the space and only because Nazi genius like Von Braun have done all the job for you. Today Von Braun is dead and the Russian rocket technologies is the only way to send your astronauts to the outer space. |

Civilians micro manage the US military, which said management includes when to engage , where to engage and how long to engage our military forces. It also includes target selection, rules of engagement, and the goals of the engagement, the type of weapons that may be used during the engagement etc. etc. etc. |

BTW, a friend of my son has made a handheld rail-gun like in Quake. Course it was unable to sink a battle cruiser, but I believe it was able to easily put down a quadrocopter drone and it was enough to deserve a prize on physics in the school ;) Maybe he should send it to the US Army :) As we say here, everything new is a well forgotten old one: Go Google for 1К17 :winkwink: |

What happened with Vietnam had a massive effect on our society here in the United States. Our military and the support for our military was at it's lowest point ever both from a moral standpoint as well as fighting ability. The general population hated the government, the politicians, and the military. The military itself had crumbled; Officers had no control over the men in their unit and were afraid to enter the barracks. There is a great book about this called the Long Gray Line - It details the Army West Point Class of 1966, their training, Vietnam, and the aftermath and how it effected their lives. Our military has changed a lot since then. Take a good look at what happened in Iraq - twice. To put it in perspective, The Iraq - Iran war lasted eight years, hundreds of thousands died, and it ended in a stalemate. The United States went in and destroyed the Iranian military and their government in weeks. Something very similar happened with the Soviet Union with Afghanistan. (I don't know much about it but I just ordered a book off of Amazon.) It's difficult to compare the Russian military to the American military. Russia doesn't even have a blue water navy. It's only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, isn't nuclear powered, and recently sailed around Europe to the Mediterranean which was, well, comical. The only aircraft carrier is in such poor shape it had to be freaking towed to Syria. http://image.tsn.ua/media/images4/60...56d29395da6817 |

Man, the anti-ship missiles were invented a long time ago. Surprised? One cruise missile is 1000000's times cheaper than an aircraft carrier, but it's much more effective. There will be no Kamikazes or anything like that. It will be as simple, as cheap and as effective as this: I have no idea why Putin has decided to take the rusty and half-dead Admiral Kuznetsov to Syria. I think the old man has a senility. The aircraft carriers are dinosaurs nowadays - they are just a joke. Nobody will use them in a real war, because they will be sunk in the first minutes of any military conflict. In fact it will be a bit worse, because according to the Russian military doctrine, the tactical nuke warheads will be used against the enemy aircraft carriers. One small tactical nuke of 500 kilotons exploded about 100-200 meters above the entire battle group will do the trick. E.g. SS-N-19 "Shipwreck" or SS-N-27 "Sizzler". They are cheap, fast and have about 2000-2500 tactical range (can be launched from planes, ships and submarines). |

Which country it could be used against? Somalia? Sorry but I don't think that the US taxpayers will be happy to know that it absolutely useless against other armies because they have the modern anti-ship cruise missiles and tactical nukes. China, India, Iran and even Pakistan can sink it in minutes. What is the reason to spend such a big money to it? |

How many US astronauts were not delivered to the outer space by Russian rockets? What's about the Curiosity rover? ;) Do you really think they won't be able to deliver a nuke when needed? ;) The mobile ICBM nuke launcher sends a commercial satellite to the orbit: Note the time it needs to prepare for the launch and to send a spaceship to the outer space. Enjoy :winkwink: |

Pakistan imported weapons and partisan. And during 10 years = 10 000 dies |

Well, Russia has one. But isn't nuclear powered, and couldn't even make it around Europe to the Mediterranean without refueling and without breaking down. China also has an aircraft carrier, which they bought from Russia, but that is not even functioning. |
