the increase on 2% was already a fact in 2014 when the EU/NATO countries agreed to increase the spends for defense TIL 2024 - and that is still the same plan. trump have changed NOTHING ON THAT !!!!
again he just takes credit for others' achievements.

right populists love to do that. they look on the increasing DOW and it was trumpīs honour. but the DOW was increasing already since november when everybody thought that trump canīt win.

but that is also another very interessting point because somebody knew it and invested a lot of money from the day on when there were rumors about russians helping trump.

if i would be putin and i would help trump to win i would invest too :-)

WRONG

In Holland you need several parties to run the country. Some parties want to invest 2 billion extra, some 1 billions and some left wing parties nothing or even less. Europe and Nato have nothing to say about that. The last 20 years they spent every year LESS.

That 2% was always the norm, but everyone ignored it. A lot of bla bla bla bla.

Now it is even a theme with the elections in Holland. New reserach in Holland showed that only 2,5% of the army trust their minster.... And that reserach and interest is all thanks to Trump. Obama showed some muscles two years ago by not sending troops, but saying Europe must do their part. Trump just give a big Fuck You to countries that don't invest. And not in 8 years, but now.

The only thing i am worried, a European army. Cause than that Verhofstadt van Baalen or other nozem would have started a war already. I trust Trump more with nukes than them. And what if we move to the right, than we have suddenly Le Pen, Berlusconi or other nutcase controling it.

Well, it was a cold war and people where afraid of nukes.
Did that wall help preventing a nuclear war in Europe or not?

your point of view is the same as from every normal citizen who discuss that in the beer bar.
but you do not have to forget that politics have nothing to do with what you want or another one wants.

there are ALWAYS 2 different positions and all you can do is to find a compromis whare everyone can lives with.
so you will NEVER find a way to be the "FIRST COUNTRY" that would lead into war with no doubts.

well, berlusconi have other problems and he is out forver (thanks to whoever) le pen is indeed a problem what i see too.
the problem is that people are not able or do simply NOT WANT to deal with such a complicated matter as politics. They also do not understand why one has to close compromises when one comes and lies it works without.

theat is infact the biggest problem of any politician in the past: If he is telling the truth he will not be elected - if he is telling lies he is unable to keep the wrong promises.

You miss my point -- Europe should pay most of NATO's costs currently the USA is paying over 1/5th!

The United States pays just over 22 percent of the cost of NATO's spending. Trump is confusing the numbers. President Barack Obama has also urged other NATO member-states to up their defense spending. Sep 26, 2016

Nukes are cheaper ...
How much of US military spending is paid by the EU: -0-
Bottom line I am paying taxes for your (NATO) defense.

well that is waht happens when good old usa can not win a war against people who fight for themself. and what happens when usa is the ONLY one who have such a weapon (with german technology)

you can praise to god that hitler did not bring it to an end because you and no trump and nobody would be in usa exept blond germans.

but that was another time - NOW a lot of nations have it and i am really afraid that trump is such a dumpfuck as you are and think USA can do whatever.
nuclear is nuclear - no matter if from usa, russia or china.

and THAT is what you adolfs make so dangerous because you doubt to get killed (what would be good for the world) but all others would be killed too (and that is the BAD part).

so just fuck off with trump to another planet and kill each other and the world is fine.

Again you are not reading (or understanding) what i am saying. I say, the NATO and Obama can keep saying countries must invest more/2%, that WILL NOT HAPPEN if the parties that win the elections in Holland want less or no extra investments in the Dutch army. I just pointed that out for you, when some of left parties win, Holland won't invest more in the army or less than that 2%. Thanks to Trump now they see it is urgent and putting it in their election program. But instead you start about who is to start a war...

I know for sure more about politics and how it works than you. But by saying 'beer talk' you try to give yourself a reason to not listen to other views.

i really do not see your exact point?
if they spend 1 or 2 % dows not really matter (well in hollandīs case maybe yes) because look france, germany, spain, italy and even poland and some other EU/nato countries are big producers and exporters of weapons - they will not buy from US or just a small part and only in EXCHANGE for own weapons.
obama and also trump is behind this money because USA is the worldīs BIGGEST industry for arms - that game is always about money - no matter who it plays.

but back to your point that the german wall had prevented a war - that is not true. in the real dirty phase of this cold war when berlin was closed and had to be supplied from the air there was no wall. the wall was bild 16 years later and only for the reason that east germans were running away in masses.

a wall does ot stop a missile or a plane. out of that it would have been in the wrong place because the US plan in case of a war was, to give Germany up til the rhine. So WHO did they really defend? the 5 million west from rhine?

believe me one thing - if the russians, chinese irakis and some other nations would not have the same weapon arsenal they would have been nuked already. so i am REALLY GLAD that they have it! i think that not even a kim jong un in north Korea is that incalculable as trump who starts to think AFTER he spoke nonsense and AFTER he tweeted some honk stuff.

So incalculable trump is also the easier is its character to look through. He is simply a booby - a millionaire son who would have done nothing without daddy and his recklessness. This ruthlessness and this egoism do not work in politics - they lead to great tension and in the end probably a big bang.

I hope and wish that the rest of the "awake America" will be wise enough to let this "big bang" be behind the closed doors of the white house and throw the goblin with bag and pack from the Oval Office before it is too late.

Well, it does matter. Trump said that he had no interested in NATO. And suddenly the politic parties in Holland start talking about putting more money in the army, except some left parties. I am Dutch and pretty sure that when Trump (or NATO) doesn't make clear they have to keep their military on a normal level, the Dutch government would spent less coming years. That can happen anyway, depending which parties will lose or win the elections in March. Doesn't matter who sells the weapons. Holland can even build their own submarines or flightdekships to reach the 2% norm.

The wall was for people keeping in east Berlin, but alsoas a part of the whole cold war and nuclear threat. They even have a sort of wall between the Koreas. Sure it doesn't stop missiles, but it prevents from other sorts of attack that could result in a real war or nuking. There are walls in Isreal, also to make sure it will be harder to escalate things. Altough i am sure they would use a nuclear missile, if they had them.

While others argue on whether European countries will or will not. At least we now have Trump talking about it.

Some Asian countries also need to donate a lot more to their defences.

On the average, every American taxpayer is paying $583 in 2016 for NATO defense spending. Or about $72 Billion Dollars in 2016 for NATO $222 per capita but there are 320 million in America.
That is expensive war prevention insurance to pay.

The cold war has cost maybe $50 trillion dollars between NATO, Warsaw Pact (defunct) and with the Russian Federation now. What could we have done useful toward the development of mankind with that much money?
