The immediate answer to your question is simple. The Jews that we know today in Europe are the Ashkenazim Jews most of whom went to Germany after the fall of the Emirate of Granada since they were not allowed to stay by Reconquistas. That is the truth. Even by that time, they were unwelcome and unwanted. Funny thing is that they flourished while the Arabs ruled Iberia. After this major exodus, the honest and hardworking Germans welcomed them just as they are welcoming the Syrians today. After 400 years (specifically 2000 years) of German/European background, the Jewish communities became well-indoctrinated in western thought and well-absorbed in Europe and many came to see themselves as pure Germans/Europeans such Karl Marx, Einstein, Kafka etc.

Again, it is the western thought (do not confuse with the US foreign policies) that is the key.
