Driving down wages has a very detrimental effect on taxes raised. Lower wages > less tax raised > more money borrowed > more interest paid > greater debt for your children to pay back.

The problem is the 1% don't give a shit and won't be paying back the debt or suffering from the effects of government cutbacks.
